Hey everyone!

Ive been reading gtp for ages now but never really felt the need to sign up.
With gt5 only a few days (or hours for some) away from coming out, it seems a good time.. maby a bit late but still :)

I want to build a cockpit for gt5.. it wont be finished in time but it will/is playable untill its done. Ill have a big first post and dont really know how to lay this out so anycomments or general help is great.. even if you dont think your helping out that much i would love to hear what you have to say!
Alot of people love Chilicokes cockpit.. i do like it but its the different wheel that i really love.

The Wheel

I own a g27 and really wanted a real wheel on there, and i hate always hitting the buttons unintentionally whilst in a tricky situation, so i want to mount a plastic or metal sheet behind the wheel for buttons. The wheel will be whatever i find that i like, personally the Sparco Ring steering wheel in leather would be epic or a Momo mod.88. I have already orderd chilicokes Momo 70mm pcd Adapter for the g27 and 330mm shifter paddles and they came yestoday (day before i wrote this post) and i can say the 330mm shifter pad's where smart, if not for that i would of gone for the 350mm wheels in the shop but due to the pad's i went for the only 330mm wheel they had. its nice, the shapes a bit weird but anybigger and i wouldnt of had any ffb! but ill get to the wheels ffb later. Here are some photo's!

Ever been late for work and tryed to get ready really fast but something went wrong, then it took ages to fix that prob then keep going. Well thats my prob but it wasnt anything to do with time, it was with care.. i was trying not to damage the plugs (from the wheels buttons to the hub) whilst pulling them out, so i went gental after almost crushing the thing with the pliers! Well cutting to the chase the tip sliped off and ripped two wires from the plug.

thats my first plan for buttons slightly stuffed! :(

Heres the hub fitted with the 330mm shift paddels from chilicoke on.

I picked the wheel up today and it is a (I think haha) Momo mod.88, they are cheap as chips in usa but in Australia... oh damn! they are gold.. $400au of wheel there.. lucky for me i got it discounted to $350au, still way more then i would like but thats life. Here is a picture.. turned out good :):)

Buttons

I want to do a design with a sheet of plastic or metal behind the wheel.. this will have the buttons mounted around the wheel.. Im sure as  not drilling holes into a new momo wheel just to turn my lights on or to look back!
I already have the 6 buttons, but my question is about connecting them to the wheel.. i have 2 real options in truth.. the tiny solderpoints above the clip for the wheels buttons, or just chop the wheels buttons from the clip and run the wire to my buttons, the second being much easyer and there isnt a factor of soldering two buttons together and royally stuffing everything up.. the problem is like i said i kind of stuffed up when removing the plugs. I should of just choped them then and there! One big question is does gt5 have support for all six or just two buttons, if its just two then ill just put two on, but design it so i can put six on later if they do update the game to support six, i would love to know what these plugs are, the tech name if anyone could, i would love to just buy to plugs with wires already in so i could wire up that way!

FFB

My ffb motors are duds.. i chose to mod the wheel because someone lost my reciept so i didnt have a warrenty anyway.. i wont find the reciept bec i found out it had been in a box that was tipped, not to good. :grumpy:
I would love to know if anyone can repair/replace the motors or just the name of them and if you can buy them, or bigger stronger ones that can be wired up in there place. 💡 atm my ffb in gt5p is set to max and i just lost the feeling you get when you start to loose grip.. now im driving from memory of when the car has gotten tricky where, instead of knowing and activly correcting.

Shifter

All i did was add an aftermarket shift knob. It doesnt seem like much but just the feel and the grip of it makes shifting so much better, its just so much nicer! This may seem strange but i dont miss as many shifts now and can really push my shift time.

Peds

Same as when i got them, i would love to mount them upsidedown but thats for later..

The Frame

Yes Finally the actual cockpit. If you have read all my other stuff or just looked at the pictures i would like to thank you for your interest. :)
I have not got a design yet but i have a seat out of a ninty somthing holden ute.. and am thinking about running to bars down from the mounting points to the pedals with a square frame for the wheel and a shifter mount welded off the wheel frame/base frame. that design would need metal for strength but that will be later, as im currently broke from gt5 and my new mods to the g27. Hopefully ill update this soon!

I would really like to thank you if you did read even half of what i wrote haha!
if i dont have the pictures working please give me some time as im not used to posting in this forum yet :)

the 330mm paddle still look small, should get the 350mm

They look tiny in the last photo. but are a good size in person. Im never reaching to get them. it wouldve been nicer if they where taller due to the position you hold the momo. I didnt realise how simple it all was. If i did i would of made my own 2 fit the wheel.

I eventually cut and made my own from stainless steel with a laser cutter and bent them into position because my OMP wheel has 90mm of dish.

I used the Chillicoke boss like yours but adapted it slightly so I could spin the wheel through 90. I nearly went for the chilli coke paddles but was put off by the fact that the they were made from aluminium... Do they flex much? I made some mock alu parts but they flexed too much. I reckon the chilli coke ones re a bit thiker hopefully and made from a hard alloy composite.

regarding the buttons, derek speare sells mini plates ready fitted with buttons to plug straight into the wheel, available for many different shapes of aftermarket wheel. Very reasonable on price too....
