Ok not so long ago I decided to delete my 90 odd percent savegame and start again. Now on the previous save game I always seemed to use the outside car views when racing now after a friend telling me the bumper view is better I decided to take his advice and now I only use the bumper cam. Who has had a similar experience?

About the manual transmission, well I always used automatic transmission before but since I accidently changed it one day, I started a race and found that I had to change gears. I finally found the joys in using the manual transmission and now I never use automatic. Anyone else feel the same or had similar experiences?

i started on bumper cam and manual tranny....

maybe i should find the "joys" of 3rd person and auto! :p

by bumper cam you mean the view where you see no part of the car?

I like the bumper cam, but I still use auto most of the time. Manual is great sometimes, but I can't handle it for every race, and with the whole R2 trick auto can be manipulated well enough for most races.

I used the 3rd person veiw then one day i just started using 1st person. I used the auto till i almost finished GT1 then i decided that if i used a manual i would have more control of the car. those are my experiences

i alwayed used bumper in GT3 but only started using manual.

i always use bumper view unless its like super speedway or test course where you dont really need to see all of the track in front of you

GT1 & GT2, I used AT and 3rd person but as soon as I got to GT3 I figured out using a MT and bumper view, especially in rally, gives you much more control.

I always use bumper cam and manual tranny, have from the very beginning. The only time I use 3rd person view is when I'm driving either rally races, or an F-1 car. I find that seeing the front end of my car helps in those situations. But manual tranny is for sure the way to go. Depending on where your engine has most of it's power, you can keep it in that RPM range. For instance, if your car doesn't have much low end power, then you can keep the revs high and shift late.

My two cents...

A inside car view with instruments like the speedometer instead to take place of those stupid plain Numbers. And when you use a manual transmission you can see the hand move the shifter.

What hand moving what shifter?!?!?!?!

I think he is suggesting something for GT4...sure doesn't sound like it (with that sentence structure).

Outside view / MT for me.

I can't at all use outside views. Every time I try, I turn right into the guardrail. It's like the car is in the wrong place for me.

I've always used MT. It started back in the PS1 days, when there was no analog button control, and MT was the only way to control speed well, for turning and the like. I never even used a pad on GT2, though. When I preordered it, I also ordered a nice racing wheel, which served me well thorugh that game. Unfortunately, it isn't PS2 compatible, plus, I now have no place to use it. But when GT4 comes, I'll not only be getting the new logitec wheel, but building an arcade style enclosure for my PS2, TV, wheel, and GT4.

lol sry yea I think I was looking at a GT4 post and then came over here :banghead: well that woudl be nice in GT4 is what I mean

The bumper cam is better because the cam will turn with the car. If you use the oustide view you will notice that as the car turns you will see a little bit of the car's sides before the cam follows the car movements. Since in real cars you seat inside the car and you turn with it, a camera that turns with the car will provide a more realistic and accurate feel.

I also always used the manual gear shift. I never really liked automatics outside of luxury cars and buses... Manual also gives a lot better control over the car's engine and power delivery.

I use the left analog stick for steering and the right analog for accelerating and braking. I use L2 for downshift and R2 for upshift. R1 is a great position for the handbrake, as I can tap it and downshift at the same time for the trickiest curves in some rally races.

What do you use for steering and accel/decel?

Maybe I'm just old fashioned, but I use the defaults, you know X for accel...

Tried using Analog 2 for accel/decel, but couldn't get the hang of it.

i started with chase view and auto. (in the olden days all games were chase view, outrun, chase hq etc). then i moved to manual in gt2. i found that when playing gt3 with friends, i couldnt hear the engine at all cause they used bumper view which was louder. so i was forced to move back to manual. i currently use bumper view now too, but bumper or chase makes no difference to me. however i always prefer to use auto. cause i dont find gearchanges in gt realistic. and the auto box is extremely good and being itself ;)

I had somewhat of a tough time getting the measurements of the front of the car down but after that, it went ok. I don't like drifting with the bumper cam though.
MT is a must for me. Ever since Colin McRae 2.0 I use nothing but manual transmission on all games that allow it.

Ive like the bumper cam alot better than the outside view, I have a bette feeling of when to turn the car. I found myself turning into a corner earlier than I should due to the fact that I was farther away from the car. Im all for manual transmisions, Ive always used them in the game, you can control the car so much more and go faster; not having to worry about the car to downshift. Now, shifting the gears is more of a second nature, I find myself not really thinking about it while Im racing.

My control choices date way back to the first Need for Speed on PS1. The controls were X-brake, square-gas, O-hand brake, triangle-reverse, R1-upshift, R2-downshift. I got used to these controls and have used them (when possible) in every racing game since (including all of the Gran Turismo's). I love the setup because, while my thumb is pressing the square button (gas), it is already over the X button (brake) making it easy to brake quickly and smoothly. Having all of the shifting duties on the R buttons also frees up my left hand to steer only. I also only use the first person view (bumper cam). These settings are comfortable for me. I realize everyone has their own comfort settings however. ^-^

I have always used the default settings, with the back view and auto trans. but recently I have tried playing with the manual trans. on all of the license tests (going for gold), and it seems it bit faster than auto.

Always had problems with the bumper view, as you can't see/feel when the car is starting to slide out, but the bumper view is definately more accurate eg. you can aim for the inside of a corner and actually get it right.

yeah but in chase view u can do the same thing too and see EXACTLY how close u were.... chase wins for accuracy hands down. though bumper view can be just as accurate if u know the car well enough. not more accurate.

Yeah, chase view helps you see a lot more than the bumper view does...although I'm not knocking the bumper view, I just prefer the chase view.

Oh no, that old debate just started again. *d'oh*
