arrrrg! my Ps2 is broken/busted.
it hapend when i was cleaning my ps2 and when i was putting back the lid on it the little ribbon cable that connects the reset and open/close cd/dvd drive i was putting back the screws and didn't see part of the cable in one of the screw holes and put the screw in. now al my ps2 does is when i turn on the power and press the reset button it just stays red the fans stays off and now im out about $300. (because i got it a little before christmas 2001)

but if im lucky my local Software Ect. will have the cable/ people to repair it.

(note: it wasn't my first time cleaning it , ive done it a bout 6-7 times before.)

Mine only reads a few of our 25+ games.
When I feel better, I'm off to Wally world to get a new one.

no your not supposed to clean it your self. it is meant for certified professionals to clean/fix it but since my warranty is over i decided to clean it myself and have been sucsessfuly cleaning it for a while now

o sheezy... how long is the warranty last for???
and like, where do i go?? sony store?? theres one in downtown chicago... i forgot where i got this one tho...

Software Etc most likely won't carry the cable. After all, the ps2 wasn't made to be opened, so why sell the internal parts?

i know but if they dont i'll ask if they know a certified repair shopand if they do i just send it there.
i also might find one online too

There are sites that sell all the internal parts for the PS2 (one could practically build their own PS2 wit them). But I don't know how reliable they are, so buy @ your own risk. To find them just do a search on google.

You opened your PS2? Do you realized you could have died of electric shock, unplugged or not?

How is that 2 year replacement plan, I never get those because I always though they had to many restrictions. Like they would be very strict with replacing it, only for specific reasons and ****, u know what I'm saying?
Have you had your PS2 replaced?

I have no problems yet. However my friend got 1 disc read error on his 1 yr old PS2 and he took it to bestbuy. He got a brand new unit a few days later. So i can say I feel pretty safe. Just a lil bummed its only for 2 years.
I know there are some plans that try and fix it before they buy you a new one(those have all the restrictions), but the one I have is replacement only. it was only 20 bucks too. For the amount of money ppl put into their consoles I think of it as being nessesary.

Heh.

Technically (sp, stupid big words) you can get shocked by something that is unplugged. TV's and arcade machines store electricty long after they are unplugged.

if you want to protect yourself, ground yourself before you do anything.

where would the fun be in that?

:D

And JDMTypeR, still anything with electricity flowing through it, still stores it somewhere. i just used those two as an example.

But can any electricity in da PS2 hurt someone?
I ground my self before going inside the PS2 or any other computer to protect da PS2 or the other computer, so I don't break it (from static electricity).

Ever stuck your finger in an outlet or got zapped plugging something in?

depending on how the ps2 is wired it could be less than that zap or more.

The capacitors on the ps2(fully stored of electricity) will give you a very fast mild shock. Something similar to a very strong static electricity shock. That is if you grounded yourself after you touched the ps2.

This is if it is unplugged of course.

Careful there, don't pay too much. My PS2 recently started giving me disc read errors and it would scratch the disc. When the laser couldn't read it, it would adjust itself and get close to it to try to read it but would touch it while spinning leaving a nice ring. I contaced Sony with the problem and they said they'd repair my PS2 AND replace my damaged games free of charge. The only thing I have to pay for is the shipping to get it there, they'll pay to send it back. They said it'd take 6-8 weeks though but I'd rather wait instead of putting out another $300 so I'm off to the post office tomorrow.
