Hello.

Another n00b question. I have researched this a bit but can't really find proper answers.

Anyways I'm looking to hook up the following items via optical output splitter between the TV and the soundbar and really need advice as to whether this would be the optimal setup as I believe I need to be careful with the ohms inputs and needing to match them up.

Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Sorry to ask but why?? What are those things and what would it do for you and your racing?

From some random internet shop as an answer to "why/what":

"What is a bass shaker in sim racing?
In sim racing, a bass shaker is a type of speaker which sends low-frequency vibrations through your cockpit. This makes it possible to feel all aspects of the racing experience, such as the rumble of the engine."

Ok, now I understand that but now I want to ask is how much does one spend on all of the following:
PS5
Steering wheel / pedals
Seat rig
Probably the new PSVR2
Sound system
and not to forget GT7
How much does it all cost and why?

I love the action of racing against others but I am 59+, working, married with daughters, and i just have a PS4 and use a controller and very happy with it, and happy I can do well in the races. Just cannot see pouring thousand dollars or more into it like others...

Same applies to anything. Why buy a Ferrari when a Micra achieves the same thing for most. Why buy designer clothes when stuff from Primark/Walmart does the job.

I'm assuming to the OP, this is for your GT7 gameplay correct? or whatever sim rig you have?

Could you provide TV specs or do you need to buy that also then can advise on best setup for audio and subs solutions, and whatnot.
Any idea on budget too?

The PS5 has NO optical out so your quite limited. Only go through yout TV set.

As for the ohms (independently of whether you use audio or sim hub as a signal source) you just need to pay attention to the minimum of ohms the amplifier requires. Usually this is 4 ohms. Therefore, if you connect one 4 ohm shaker to one "4 ohms minimum" amplifier channel, you're good.

Having more ohms connected to an amplifier is no problem. For example, connecting an 8 ohm shaker to an amplifier channel that is "4 ohms minimum" is no problem at all. You don't need to match the ohms between shaker and amplifier. The only thing you must not do is connect shakers to an amplifier in a way so that the shakers sum up to having less than 4 ohms.

This is the fire hazard under my simrig, I have 2 of those amps and BST-1 shakers doing rear left and right and 2 smaller bass pucks on my pedals for front left and right.
Use simrig, find an old laptop, doesn't need to be powerful. I had them setup as bass shakers and it's not that immersive

An amendment to the Nobsound amplifiers. Please note that I am not complaining and not dissuading from buying these. Just a heads-up.

The stated power output of these amps often is "idealized", meaning that technically this output can be reached, but only under specific circumstances and with specific loudspeakers. As you will use it to power the loudspeakers (or shakers) you have, the amp's power output in your case may be significantly lower. Yet, as long as it works for you, all is well.

Two general hints from me:
  • If you are unsure which model of amplifier you should buy, consider going for the more powerful option. The chance that it will not be able to deliver the stated power is high, therefore you will be on the safe side by choosing a "bigger" model.
  • If you are not satisfied with the power output of the amp you bought, check whether the provided power supply puts out the maximum voltage the amplifier allows. With these amps this is not always the case. Therefore, using a different power supply with the maximum allowed output voltage and appropriate wattage will enable the amp to deliver more power.

I have the exact same reaction to golf. It utterly baffles me why anyone would want to spends £/€/$1,000 on golf… but it’s probably one of the most popular recreations out there. Probably more than GT7

This is why I run 2x 100w amps for my 2x 50w shakers

Was gonna use porn as an analogy, ah but that's tricky to justify as most of you haven't done VR porn yet 🤦

WOW, that's really strong of you to dig up a month-old topic and then leave such a pointless message as your first post... your life seems very monotonous.

On the topic, it's a hobby and every hobby costs more or less money. You can not change it. A SimRig and all other accessories serve first and foremost to improve immersion, you get a much better feel for the game, the track, the cars AND it significantly improves control of the vehicle, as all control movements can be made in much more detail.

If you use good + large monitors or even VR, with good headphones and then with such “bass shakers” you get closer and closer to a real car.

You can also use an older, cheap/used AV receiver, these usually have more power AND more channels, which, as already mentioned above, can be controlled from a PC/laptop via SimHub, resulting in a great system. An old laptop is conceivable in my opinion but not the best solution. There are great “mini PCs”, some of which are so small that they can easily be attached to the SimRig or monitor. Most people already have a multi-channel sound card installed, or you connect a USB sound card.
