Button reassignment? (MAJOR FLAW)

When is it going to be added?

I have a friend that is in a wheelchair and does not have use of his legs. When playing GT5P on his DFGT, he uses X and square for gas/brake. In GT5P, we can set up the buttons where ever we like, even outlandish stuff that does not make any sense. The point is we can do it our way.

So, this is the second NFS game that he cannot play because of the lack of button assignment. Stores don't take games back because the developer and publisher failed to have features that [may be used to] accommodate disabled gamers.

Me personally, I want my 2 face buttons on my G25 to be look left/right. The game recognizes the G25, makes use of the clutch, but I can't assign buttons to my liking? In addition, I have low vision, so please don't have light colored font with a light colored background.

Come on guys, you can do better than this.

i can assign buttons for the pc... they left that option out of the console? you can probably directly... nvm console. :(

Check your PM I copy/paste what I sent you on the NFSShift forum :ouch:

Yeah, Opel, I can see you're pretty pissed off [too]. We do have a member of the Need For Speed team on these forums. So, I have to assume Andrew (Vancouver Blade) is aware of this thread and would love to have a speedy fix so handicapped gamers are able to play Shift (and future NFS games).

I'm not handicapped but i still find it very annoying and very pathetic that we cant map the controls how we like. Sorry but we are on 3rd Gen console in the year 2009!! Come on WTF!

I am one of the people that has always used X - gas, Square - brake, L2 and R2 for gears. I am being forced to use the sticks, as it's impossible to change gear when you use the L2/R2 for gas and brake. it's ridiculous and i cannot forgive it, and i'm even considering returning the game.

Here's the message I've gotten so everyone will know what I'm saying to them. Maybe everyone should contact EA support and ask the same question.

I've sent support staff an email about this and so far this is what they haven't done!!

Could you show me a picture of the screen you're talking about, because on my PS3 when my G25 wheel is hooked up and I select "Controls" I get a picture of the wheel my PS3 doesn't show any re-mapping tools that allow me to change anything. Maybe you should check out the game and then give me an answer. Please note that on the Reference # 0918-012612 it states that I'm using a PS3 Platform.

Greetings,

Thank you for contacting Electronic Arts.

I apologize for your situation, and the inconvenience that caused to you related with controllers in game. If your device is not recognized, or if you'd like to modify the configuration the game has pre-assigned to your
controller, select ‘Controls’ through the Options menu. The re-mapping tools in this menu allow you to change your button configuration for optimal play.

If there is anything else I can help you with please let me know.

Could you get the staff to stop counting the money that EA is taking people for and answer my question or at least work on some updates!

Is your technical staff too lazy to add mapping for wheels in your games ,If not why do I have to use only one setting I have a G25 wheel that has "2" buttons on the wheel that could be used for "look back" "nitrous" instead they do nothing at all in the game. Maybe your tech staff should try driving the game before you release them. If you can't fix this problem this will be the last NFS game this consumer will be buying, and yes I have all the NFS games most on PC some on PC and PS. Please respond (not by bots)

I had a small e-mail correspondence last week with Vancouver Blade aka. Andrew from EA regarding the ability to remap buttons on supported steering wheels, or at least have a couple of presets.

vBlade said he'd forwarded the request to the dev's

I raised the issue of allowing people more much freedom with their controllers to the dev team last week so they’ll hopefully be able to look into it. Not sure how much they’ll be able to do though but they’ll certainly look into it.

Cheers
Andrew

In order for the ability to have more logical mapping in regards to stuff like having the NOS, handbrake or look-behind function configured to the wheel buttons, which, as you know, by current default have no function while racing.

I think the way to go realistically is the ability to choose between a sequence of presets, as this allows to use the current game UI, as opposed to implementing a new UI for custom user wheel/controller button configs

Hey, don't forget us DS3 users! :sly:

I'd really like to be able re-asignin the buttons config on my controller too or at least have an option with R2 L2 for gas and brakes AND gear UP and DOWN on right/left ANALOG STICK... please it's like having a sequencial gearbox and I cannot use manual gears any other way (on a NFS game at least)! Thanks. 👍

I'll see if I can get an update on this from the team.

Here's my latest update for mapping NFS Games, from what I'm reading here this tech person is telling me that Tech support isn't where to try to fix this problem, but I should post on the NFS Shift forum which is where my first question started at was on the EA forum. Or try here:

I'm going to print the email I got and send it here just to see if I'll hear from the big guys that have the little guys counting the money.

Thank you for responding,

I'm afraid that the Technical Support department would not be the proper route if you wish for EA to address a problem related to why you can not map a wheel on a console based game. This concern would be handled either by posting a thread in the suggestion or feedback forums located in the appropriate forum of the title or by sending a letter to our corporate office. These two avenues of comunication will allow messages from the public to reach the ears of our development and the project leads. The forum for Need For Speed is located here: http://forum.ea.com/eaforum/categories/show/57.page. The address of the Corporate office is listed below.

I believe I have addressed the technical support related problem you had questioned about from your response on 9/25/2009. I am sorry again for any inconvenience this issue has caused.

You still have yet to address the problem, If the staff at EA would read some forums you will find that your customers are getting tired of not being able to map a $300.00 wheel (you have mapping on a PC) answer why you can't have mapping for the PS3 (Note: first question I ask Is Your staff too lazy to add mapping or does EA not care about the customer? The staff needs to play some of these games with the settings they put in them then they might understand why I'm complaining along with at least 90% of players on a PS3. At least your commericals on TV are real race footage I can tell because the sound cuts in/out just like in game.

Hello,

Thank you for contacting Electronic Arts Customer Support. I apologize for the inconvenience you are experiencing. Your issue has been escalated to me and I will be happy to assist you in this matter.

The game has no custom controls available at this time. There is one set of controls for the sixaxis, and one for wheels. The game should recognized the G25 wheel, and in the ‘controls' section, I can see a detailed control map showing the wheel.

If you find the default controls to be a bit ‘stiff', you can tweaked the dead zones a bit to a setting that is comfortable for you. Here is a forum I found with a player who plays the PS3 and uses the same wheel and the dead zone settings he chose. This should give you a place to start. The link is: http://boardsus.playstation.com/playstation/board/message?board.id=nfscarbon&thread.id=19518. I hope this helps.

Feel free to contact us again if you have any other questions regarding this issue. You can update your support request by clicking on the My Questions link on http://support.ea.com.

Did you at any point in your communicationwith EA fell like you was talking to a door

I admire your dedication, but really before losing your sleep over it. You should just accept the fact that EA dont really gives a **** about their customers after they have bought their products.

Well, this may come as some positive news, though maybe not for this game... When I was at PAX I had a lengthy conversation with a couple of people showing games about reassigning buttons. And one of them said he has been hearing more and more complaints regarding it, and that he would talk with some of the developers he works with about it.

So, at least some people that actually work on the games are realizing people do want this on consoles. And hopefully, something gets done about it. Because well, it is silly that I can reassign all the buttons on my SNES games, but not on a brand new game :P
