just wondering what people are using, i us buttons all my mates take the p*ss, but im quiker then them, thinking of getting steering wheel and starting again, im at 90.3% 13 golds, mission 34 to do and thinking needing the wheel for that one.

if I'm sitting down for a bit of a session then its DFP, otherwise standard ps2 pad it is

Get the DFP if you want to truly experience gt4...its worth it.

I've always used the DS2 (standard PS2-pad), x for throttle, square for brakes, dir buttons for steering (L1/R1 for shifting when I ride manual) L2 for holding a gear (in auto).
Getting used to applying different pressure on the X.

I'd love to buy two DFP's, two cockpits and two plasma screens, but my wife doesn't share my enthusiasm.........

i've always used the directional pad and buttons on my ds2, but i have a dfp also so i alternate between the two controllers. sometimes the ds2 is faster (like in rallying), while other times the dfp is faster (mainly for high speed cars like minolta)

I don't even know how to use the controller, I've only ever used a wheel currently the DFP

I've never seen a real car with buttons for steering, brakes and throttle either :)

I used to use the DS2 in GT1, 2, and 3, used the DF (not Pro) in GT4:P and the DFP for GT4...never looked back. I try GT4 with the DS2 now and again just for kicks, but it just isn't the same (and the cars all feel fake).

I'm still using the old DF (not pro) wheel I used in GT3. Works fine. Since I use the paddles for gas and brake, I can't use the DFP.

In my first game, I started with the DS2. When I got to around 40%, I purchased the Driving Force Pro, and now always use it, with both my first game and second games. The only times I don't use the wheel is when I'm rallying, testing 400m and 1000m times, and photomode.

thinking of getting steering wheel and starting again
I would highly recommend getting a wheel, preferably the DFP.

i think i be getting dfp, good to hear that people use buttons and not sticks,

Why ?

I mostly use the right stick for acceleration and braking. Its so much easier to judge the amount of throttle to use with the stick, with the buttons, I find its full on or nothing, can't seem to graduate it at all.

GT Force wheel if i'm not on my pc aswell as my PS2 pad if I am. My friend used the sticks to control everything. I tryed and crashed about 5 times and gave up

i find it the other way, more fine with button for me, can keep it at a rev better placed and braking, its not i dont like sticks, its just me mates use sticks and they say use sticks but i get better times then them, :)

I like the controller just fine, satisfied, who knows if I'll get a wheel. I doubt it.

In GT 1,2,3 I used the DS2 analog sticks.
For GT4 I use a DF (not pro). A wheel makes the game much more enjoyable!

buttons and left stick. my default on all driving games

left stick for steering
right for gas/brake

on a logitech wireless controller

I use a DS2 always have. I've never really thought about the DFP until I came on to GTP but right now I'm saving for a car so my budget is limited for buying PS2 accessories

Good idea....nice sig :)

>>others:

I always use my DFP, i'm so much faster than playing with a DS2, and on top of that, the driving experience is truly breathtaking ......stock Honda S2000 round Nordschleife, N2 tires, Yes please !!!!

I used the DS2 on GT3 on default settings using th d-pad to steer. I got the MadCatz 2 for GT4 but I found that it was very difficult to apply precise throttle. A tap on the gas and it was at 100%. Same for braking. Well, my pedals mysteriously "broke" and I had to resort to the DS2, which I played like crap. a couple of days ago, by customizing the control buttons, I learned to use the buttons on the MadCatz2 wheel to drive. Im much better now and more precise with acceleration and braking. Although not good enough for my standards. Maybe I should buy the DF Pro? Does anyone know if the accelarate and brake are precise?

I prefer analog sticks but the logitech driving force is a little involved at 279 MPH.

As long as you're taking orders put me down for D-pad and buttons. Standard square and X buttons for brake/throttle. I do prefer to switch the down shift to the R2 so the shifting buttons feel linear and my left hand is free to control the steering and nothing else.

Co-sign that ^
I too prefer D-pad and "X" - "square" buttons
shifting at triggers default tho

Using a hand controller to play GT4 is laughable, you should all be ashamed!

Please use the DFP if you wish to race in an orthodox manner.
