So now that I built my PC, all New except the DVD drive and the GPU (xFx 8800GT) Im thinking of upgrading the GPU in a month or two or Wait till December to buy a new one.

Question is in case Im Buying a new gpu the next month Should I go with an AMD 6950 2gb or a GTX 560Ti.

I like both Cards, but Ive read in the official nVidia forums that Fermi Cards have problems with random Motherboards, theres an official thread and a subscription for all those members with a bad card and its like a 1 out of 1000 problem, so nVidia has tried and failed at recreating the trouble therefore the problem has no solution (yet, I hope) which leads me to think that buying an nVidia card might not be a good idea.

Having all this in Mind the choice would Obviously be the HD6950 2Gb, BUT theres also lots of rumors saying that AMD might soon Release their new gpu's, leaving the HD6950 as Outdated Hardware.

So, any thoughts on what should I do, Buy a GTX 560Ti and risk it, Buy an HD 6950 or wait till Next Gen AMD(Southern Islands)or Next Gen nVidia (Kepler), even though Kepler wont be out till december at least.

Thanks in Advance 👍

Whatever you buy will be outdated in about three days.

 I know I know, even though you're right, I'd like to make the best possible choose.

Besides im asking because I think that atm, a GTX 560 or a HD 6950 are kinda the sweet spot between Power Value and Futureproofing.

Its just that I cant make my mind

What resolution are you running, and what games will you be playing?

I'm at 1920 x 1200 and just bought a 6950 and flashed it to a 6970. It's amazing. Black Ops hits the frame cap of 90fps with everything on highest settings.

That's what I'd go with.

What CPU are you running?

Im Running 1440x900

I have an i7 860 and 4gb of G.Skill Ripjaws, my PSU is a Corsair 650Tx

Im thinking of buying a 6950 2GB, but I cant ignore that the new Southern Islands GPU's may come out soon, even though I guess a 2Gb 6950 is kinda futureproofing for a resolution like the one im playing at.

Need some Advice 👍

A friend that works in a Pc Store, Offered me a GTX 480 at a Really Really Good Price, So considering it was the Top tier card of its Gen, could it be a good Purchase?

Even though, this: http://forums.nvidia.com/index.php?showtopic=187401 Still has me Pretty scared of Buying a nVidia Card.

For the ones that do not want to click the link, its a Thread where members of the nVidia forums that happen to have a 400/500 card are complaining about some issue with the GPU that nvidia hasnt solved, yet, apparently :scared:

So now the question is, GTX 560Ti, GTX 480 or HD 6950?

The GTX480 is a good card, but it's very loud and hot, particularly if it's just a reference cooler.

The GTX560 is a newer, quieter, cooler card, and I would say would play everything at max detail on a 1440 x 900 Res.

The 6950 is pretty similar to the GTX560 in terms of performance. I'd say either would be a good pick.

Well, I dont mind That much about noise unless its Really loud at idle, cuz I wont mind the noise while playing.

Do you have any opinions about the thread I linked to or Read about what I wrote about 400/500 series cards Problems?

Anyways, Thanks a lot pal, I really appreciate your help 👍:)

I've always been a huge Nvidia fanboy and it's only burned me once (and thankfully has since been fixed). For a while, the newer fermi cards had some legacy problems with older games and ran pretty badly. Specifically, I had a lot of trouble getting Final Fantasy XI playable. They seem to have fixed that, though. I have a GTX 465 which I've flashed to a 470, and I've never experienced any of the lockup/black screen problems mentioned in that thread. In fact this is the first I've heard of it. I've been extremely pleased with it so far, the performance is incredible especially in DirectX 11 games.

Honestly when it comes to hardware, Nvidia & AMD are constantly leap-frogging. So I've stuck with Nvidia based primarily on past experience and their drivers. I absolutely despise the Catalyst drivers for AMD/ATI cards.

On the other side of the coin, many Nvidia cards, even if they have more than 2 outputs, can only activate up to two displays at once unless you're running SLI. So if you have a dual screen setup AND want to broadcast to your TV all at the same time, you will either want an SLI Nvidia setup, or an AMD card. I've heard that AMD cards support up to 4 display devices. Don't take my word on that last bit though.

Thanks A lot on the comments!

Well, actually I've always been an nVidia User, but I decided Ill get an HD 6950 2gb, which I guess its pretty good for gaming at 1440x900 on everything maxxed out, besides If possible I'll unlock the shaders and have a semi 6970.

Now on the topic, which HD 6950 should I get?

Im between the MSI Twin Frozr II or the Sapphire with custom Cooler, Even though I'd like to get the Asus DirectCU II its almost 70$ more than the MSI and the Sapphire, so, Any Comments or Recommendations on this?

Thanks in advance Pals!

Edit: Been Reading a lot about the unlocking thing and it happens to be only for the HD 6950 V1 Reference Model, that means that any 6950 with custom cooler wont Unlock.

Also found that the Unlock only gives up to a 5-8% Improvement, while Overclocking gives more and isnt as Risky.

Also found that a GTX 480 should be Faster than the HD6950.

So now the Question is what to Get?

HD 6950 Twin Frozr II or Reference GTX 480 ?

Just FYI, Im gaming at 1440x900 and I Want really good DX11 Performance

So My friend told me they Ran out of GTX 480's...:ill:

So that leaves me With only Three Choices:

MSI Twin Frozr II HD 6950 (Not Unlockable, Easier Overclocking)
http://www.amazon.com/MSI-DisplayPort-R6950-TWIN-FROZR/dp/B004MPR1WO/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1302486904&sr=8-1

Sapphire Reference HD 6950 (Unlockable, Harder and Dangerous Overclocking)
http://www.amazon.com/Sapphire-DL-DVI-I-SL-DVI-D-PCI-Express-100312SR/dp/B004FPYJFI/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1302486884&sr=8-1

Gigabyte SuperOverClock GTX 560Ti (Does not need Overclock as it comes with Monster Overclock from Factory, Has Custom Fan and PCB Design)
http://www.amazon.com/Gigabyte-GTX560-miniHDMI-Video-GV-N560SO-1GI-950/dp/B004SGJAUS/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1302450027&sr=1-4

So By the Comparisons I've read, an Overclocked can Get upto 6970 Performance, an Unlocked and Overclocked 6950 Runs like a 6970 and the Gigabyte SOC GTX 560Ti Runs almost or equal to a GTX 570.

Based on this, I think the Best Choice is the GTX 560 BUT (There's always a but) its only 1Gb Vram whereas the HD6950 is 2Gb, I know that at the moment 1Gb is more than enough for my res, even for 1680*1050 but future thinking leads me to believe that in two years or so 1Gb of Vram wont be enough even for Resolutions like The one im Playing at the moment (1440*900).

Even though, the VRam thing is just a Wild Guess it makes me unsure on what to get.

So Any Thoughts?:scared:

The 6950 is the more powerful card from the outset, the GTX 560ti is more equivalent to the 6870 than the 6950. The Twin Frozr II is probably the best option, as that cooler is a monster and you should get a ton of overclocking out of the card.

Well, thanks for the comment, I guess Im going with TFII HD 6950 even though, Im missing the unlocking ability, in the long term aspect its for the better, runs cooler with less effort.

I guess Im done then, by the way, I thought the 560 Ti was the rival of the 6950 not the 6870 just because it was almost on par with the 6950 in benchmarks.

Thanks a lot!
