Buying a new Mid-sized Truck?

Good evening everybody,

I am buying a new truck. I was looking for a full size F150 or Ram 1500 4x4 both with off road packages, but for 40+ for a new truck seems a little steep. I went to Nissan to drive a Titan and hated it, so while I was there I jumped in a Frontier with a NISMO off road package 4x4 and liked it much more (for 11k less), then I drove a Toyota Tacoma with a TRD off road package 4x4.

I love them both, and from the drive around the block with both, the Toyota seemed to feel much better, I am not going to get into details because I am assuming here is a place where specifics are understood. I liked the space in the Toyota which contrary to popular reviews I found roomier than the Nissan.

Basically what I am asking is people with experience with either one to chime in and offer a non biased opinion. I really don't care about Toyota's recent history, so don't bring that up, as it is only going to give me an advantage in terms of putting my foot on the dealer's throat and pushing for a real steal. This is going to be my first new car, and with that I have an uneasiness with rushing into a "love at first sight" purchase, I just want the best truck (of the two).

**My day to day consists of highway driving with daily driving in steep (wet, snow and ice conditions) unpaved roads. I live on a unpaved road about 2000 ft above my office aprox. 30 miles away. With a few times a month on extremely rough terrain both up and down elevation.**

Thank you for your help.

Hahaha, the greatest Toyota to ever live, the Tacoma in the US. Although that model is quite old, Toyota use this clip in their US commercials to show how reliable their truck is.

I would recommend the Toyota, they truly are the most reliable and practical cars in the world, don't listen to all the Chevy commercials etc. . . Plus, if you feel that either truck was better when you drove it, then go for it.

I believe the Tacos are under the "oops, we bleeped up with the supplier" list

and F's, rams and titans are not MID sized trucks. there are only two atm besides the ones you were looking at, and they're both on the chopping block (Colorado/Canyon and Dakota). I've had the taco's older brother in SUV form, and was impressed with the thing's 4wd, but not the fact that it was made out of tin. i hope today's toyos are better in the body than the two I've had.

Those 1st gen Tundra's are fairly midsize. Though in my expierence, they have a TERRIBLE turning radius! I would say go for a Ranger, but those are a Compact pickup, probably the only compact pickup left on the market! But with the ranger, you get the best gas milage for a pickup, and you can get one with the V6 from the Mustang for very cheap!

dude. the Ranger platform is ANCIENT, now. besides, they don't drop the 4 banger in nowadays (which only gets low 20's at best). also, he's looking at NEW, and they're just as expensive as the ones he was looking at, anyway.

oh, ranger's still classed as a compact

T100: if your stuck for a full-sizer, and not necessarily hauling anything but YOU, look at shortbeds. also, I wouldn't turn your nose up at used, either.
