Without further adue, here are the results from week 15:
First Place: Klostrophobic (hey wait, I think I own those headphones!)
attachment.php

Second Place: Giancarlo (confused as he may be, he still won)
attachment.php

Third Place: ALPHA (I think I can see my uncle in there!)

Now, onto this week's competition. The optional theme is Altercation (big word, look it up if you don't know it). Take it how you want. Rules are as follows:
  • No violations of the AUP will be tollerated (I doubt we'll have trouble with that...)
  • Image Resolution is to be at or less than 610 x 610 pixels
  • This is for all the 56kers out there: Files are to be equal to or less than 250kb in size.
  • All entries due by Saturday, February 14, 2004 at Midnight EST (-5 GMT) (poll will be posted the next day)
  • Image must be able to be printed the way it is shown, this means no animated gifs or 3D render-files (you can enter a 2D angle of it, but not the 3D thing).
  • Have fun.

Go for it!

(BTW, can you guys see the size limit anymore or do I need to repost it?)

[/B]

im not quite sure on the 3d rendered files, so if i render something it has to be like on a front view or back or whatever, not on like a 3-quarter sort of view?

i wanna know before i go and spend 8 hours rendering something

thanks

He means like no 3D animation, it has to be a still picture. You can still use 3D rendering programs.

Viper Zero, you're not entirely correct in that statement. What I mean is you can't post the file that can only be read by a 3D graphics program.

I just realized that I forgot the full extent of the rule I had posted, I edited it, gifs aren't allowed as this is a 2-dimensional competition and animations add the dimension of time into the mix.

Me and Giancarlo got the same amount of votes, 3. How come I'm third then? :grumpy:

Can the title of the competition be changed because abstract isn't the right name.

Just found something to submit.

Afew more suggestions, scrap the optional theme, no one will do it if its optional and if its compulsory it will restrict the entries.

Oh and to make the dimensions more clear in the rules, make the words a larger text size.

Well, what would you call it? Abstract seems alot better than anything I can think up. And the reason you're in 3rd is because Giancarlo had his entry posted first; which shows that he has slightly more talent than you for being able to round up 3 votes in a faster amount of time than you (not much, but it's in my unwritten rulebook on PSC poll-posting ). The optional theme is there to give inspiration to people who are drawing blanks as far as what to create. It in no way affects the voting, but it helps. I have seen people use it in the past, like last week (there was at the least 1 entry that followed it). As far as the dimension limit goes, I think that it's pretty clear (we haven't had any violations of it since I made it a hyperlink, so I wouldn't be so upset).

But you just had an animated picture in the last competition. You had an eye that was blinking.

I don't want to pick a flame war here but that unwritten rule quite frankly is unreasonable. I mean democratic elections aren't that way, An Example: ~

Mr Giancarlo gets 5001 votes & Mr ALPHA gets 5001 as well, but Mr ALPHA receives his last vote 2days after Mr Giancarlo. Mr Giancarlo then becomes elected as head of the 2nd Place Party because Mr ALPHA started his campaign 2hours and 32minutes after Mr Giancarlo? - I mean what kind of a crappy rule is that? Although yes this isn’t an election but the same basic principles apply.

A different name, hmmm:

  • GTP Official Computer Graphics Competition
  • GTP Official Computer Art Competition

I'm not really concerned over a placing but I'd just like to make a point

That's politics, waaaaaaaaay different than a simple poll on GTP (although I can see where you would find the resemblance). The thing with politics is that they start their campaign at different times; however here, we all start at the same time and if you can manage to finish your campaign (er, umm, chop) in less time than someone else and manage to get the same number of votes in the poll then I feel that you deserve to get the credit (please note that the time votes are cast does not matter as I only view the results of the poll after it has been closed for nearly a whole day). That is my arguement/opinion and I stand by it.
(P.S. I do see the italics at the bottom of your post I just thought I'd refute your point anyway)

Like I said, I forgot the extent of my own rule. It didn't get any votes anyway...

I hope I can make something better than this later to post up, but I'll just get this down.

My final point, this is an 'Abstract' Competition not a lets see who can get the votes the fastest, so why close the poll after a specified amount of time? The first day only really matters then.

So Joe gets 2 votes in one day. Bill gets 3 votes but spread of an entire week. At the end of the week the votes stay the same 2 for Joe and 3 with Bill. Bill has obviously won with the most total votes but if the Official GTPlanet rules of getting the most votes the fastest, Joe then wins. So congratulations to Joe. I right pat on the back for you, bravo a hands down win.

It's not about the votes, it's about when they submitted their entry in the original thread. The reason I close the poll is so that definitive results can be given. Everyone knows how much time there is to vote, it's like the presidential election here in the U.S. on one day, the entire nation votes on who they think should be president. One Day! And I'm gracious enough to give you people a week! Uy Vey!

(hm, I've been finding that I am using emoticons much more frequently than before...)

Why does it matter when you submit your entry here? - You post the poll and everyones entry in the poll is submitted together at the same time, why should it make a difference when you submit it? -

Why are you giving examples of elections when you just stated "That's politics, waaaaaaaaay different than a simple poll on GTP"

Well, I was tired last night, so forgive the inconsistencies.

Here's how it works.
Bob and Joe both start working on their entries at the same time. When they're done, they post it immediately. If Joe produces a 3-vote-quality entry in 2 days, and Bob produces a 3-vote-quality entry in 4 days, and they tie in the poll, I would chose Joe's entry to win over Bob's because Joe was able to produce that amount of quality 2 times faster than Bob. Therefore, his rate of vote-producing is 2x greater than bob's (joe=3votes/2days=1.5, bob=2votes/4days=.75). That's the way I see it. It's flawed in oh so many ways, but that's the way I do it (I'm too lazy to make a tie-breaker-poll). If you'd like to step up and post the tie-breaker-polls then go ahead, just make sure that you provide an ending date for the poll.

That's pretty damn cool. But you should've made it an addition to a cool piece, not the piece itself. Y'know?
