I am some what of a fanatic when it comes to Formula 1. With the FIA Formula 1 season coming down to its last three races, I thought to myself, how can I continue my passion for the sport. So I came up with this idea:

A GTP F1 Grand Prix Season of our own...

How this would work.

Teams would be distinguished by tuning shop. For example...

Dutch Customs F1
The Lion's Den F1
Red Venom F1
Digital Race Craft F1
888 Tuning F1
etc...

Each team would require their own Ferrari F2007 setup.

Each team would have an equal amount of drivers.

- Drivers will be picked like this:

a. All GTP members interested in participating would submit their best times on the new F2007 Daytona Event. (The same method of tracking times used in GTP Events would be used.)

b. Once all submissions are made (a deadline would be announced), the Tuning shops would pick their drivers in a multi-round draft fashion from a list of all participants and their results.

Example:

Round 1

Dutch Customs F1 - 1st Pick
The Lion's Den F1 - 2nd Pick
Red Venom F1 - 3rd Pick
Digital Race Craft F1 - 4th Pick
888 Tuning F1 - 5th Pick

Round 2

888 Tuning F1 - 1st Pick
Digital Race Craft F1 - 2nd Pick
Red Venom F1 - 3rd Pick
The Lion's Den F1 - 4th Pick
Dutch Customs F1 - 5th Pick

Pick order will be determined either by random, or a fair alternative decided upon by the Tuning shops.

Once teams and drivers are established a series of events will be announced. Naturally starting with a Daytona Road Course Gran Prix.

The competition would be divided into a Driver's Championship and a Tuning Shop Championship.

Points would be awarded to the drivers for positions 1st through 8th, and to their teams respectively, based on resulting times.

Example:

1st - 10 points
2nd - 8 points
3rd - 6 points
4th - 5 points
5th - 4 points
6th - 3 points
7th - 2 points
8th - 1 point

So for instance, if you had two drivers racing for 888 Tuning, DRIVER A and DRIVER B, and both were to finish within the points, all points scored by those drivers would go to 888 Tuning.

At the end of the Season the Driver and Team with the most points would be declared GTP F1 Gran Prix Champs!

I personally am in love with this idea. I hope all the tuners will be interested in participating. I counted 9 tuning shops currently active in the forums. If you have a tuning shop and are interested, please reply to the post. Once tuning shop participation is established, I can determine how many driver's will be allowed per team.

Let me know what you think!

Thanks,

Martin :)

Sounds interesting enough. I'll have to see how many tuning options are available for the F2007 with the new update.

I hate the F2007 (doesn't feel like how Gran Turismo should be imo), so I'm out on this one.

How funny, I was actually thinking of putting together a series using the Ferrari F2007. I would like to assist in putting it together and participating if thats alright.

This is a great idea. 👍 Too bad I hate the F2007. ;) But I'm sure there are plenty of F1 lovers out here. :)

Say ChzSteak, do you have an idea on how competitors will submit their entries or any rules or guidelines as to what can and can't be done? I could help out with establishing those if you want. Also, any particular schedule and preseason test dates?

help is always welcome and you can definitely participate.

I had a few things in mind regarding submissions and such. But first I wanted to see how many tuning shops wanted to participate. Seems like a couple of my favorite tuners are out. Maybe if we don't get enough shop support we can just make our own teams. Let me know what you think.

NLxAROSA, why do you dislike the F2007. I've been racing it with the Driving Force GT since I got the game, and can't find a more exhilarating ride. It seems, at least to me, that they tightened up the steering since the Spec III update.

I was thinking something along the lines of 8 teams (although if we were to make our own teams than 12-16 would be ideal, maybe make teams based on nationality?) , with 4 driver's each and two alternates. Guidelines would be similar to the official GTP event rules. Unless you have some other ideas, please share.

As far as schedule, a GP every two weeks wouldn't be bad. And test dates and so on will be determined after we determine who is interested in participating.

Maybe if the interest in the F2007 is small, we could do a touring car cup, and just have a few small events for the F2007. I really like this format and would love to see the tuning shops pit up against each other. Would make for some fun. Besides there are plenty of other cars in the game that get little attention and could be fun to tune/race,

I'm thinking of something along the lines of the Official GTP events combined with what we have established in GTP racing. As for the amount of teams, I'm fine with that(unless the consensus has something else to say).

I wouldn't mind that.

I dislike it because of 2 things. To me Gran Turismo just isn't about F1 (thats what F1CE is for), and secondly having a sixaxis makes the car pointless to drive as you cant be precise enough which ruins the experience.

I like the idea and would be happy to contribute a car.
As mentioned above us sixaxis people tend to struggle a bit with F1 compared to the Wheel-folk : ) which would make the tuning side interesting.. not impossible, just interesting, so would need a team Test Driver to give feedback on the tune.

Every 2 weeks would be good, and I would be happy with the Tunes not being published or made public. : )

I don't think GT has strayed away from what its about just because of one F1 car. If there was nothing but F1 cars, then I'd see where your coming from, but I'm baffled at how your under that impression that GT suddenly is all about one motorsport just because of one car.

Totally misunderstood what I said. I mean to me this game is about every other car in this game and NOT the F1. Not that the F1 has changed the came completely.

Read again, to me Gran Turismo isn't about F1, not Gran Turismo is now about F1 and it shouldn't be.

Reading it again, you didn't specifically say THE F1, you just said F1:

Thats what threw me off about the post.

what's wrong with the f2007? I want as many open wheelers as GT can throw in the game. I like race cars before i like street cars. The same thing about motorbikes.

GT5 should have more F1. Im hoping for the entire 2009 Grid.

opps..sorry for double post, i thought i was adding to my previous one.

To Dragonistic....go learn more about F1, you might change your mind and see why F1 IS SO IMPORTANT for GT.

Wondering if this idea could be used to run a series but using a tuned car instead of F1, brilliant idea, would imagine enough drivers would be happy to race if using a tuned car as I'm sure like me other drivers are not big fans of the F1

Are the dedicated F1 games not made for F1 fans, i knowwhat F1 is, i enjoy it, but again TO ME, it's not a Gran Turismo thing.

I dont speak for everyone, just my own opinion so please stop slating me for not agreeing.

F1 has been in GT since GT3 so it is obviously a GT thing. An F1 is a car and just as Kaz said, GT is a car encyclopedia. GT has room for everything so if you don't want it, don't buy it. I really cant understand what is wrong with having F1 cars in this game.

How can it be the "Ultimate Driving Simulator" without F1 cars?

He's not against having F1 cars in this game, he just doesn't like driving them in GT.

I myself am more of low PP man, but I think the idea of having an F1 series is great. 👍

For the last time, TO ME, MY OPINION, NOT UNIVERSAL. I DON'T PLAY GT FOR THE F1 CARS, ANYONE ELSE CAN IT'S UP TO THEM.

You said it, if i dont want it, dont buy it, i bought it with spare credits (I have every car in prologue), I choose not to drive it, but this is a forum and here comes the shock. People have opinions which they like to share, I am a tuner here on GTP and I suspect people would like my reasoning as to why i chose not to enter this event, and I gave one. I didn't say it shouldn't be included, I just don't drive it because its not what I (thats me not you) play Gran Turismo for.

Next time I'll say nothing... ok?

Wasnt this the idea behind the tuners challenge ?? It became a logistical nightmare to organise and run....
