A few extra bits of info, tuning prohibited, so Brake Balance can be moved around 3/1 seems to work and Sport Hards. A friend and mine are having a little side bet to see who can get that time first.

I'm pretty slow, so my best is 1:57:5xx. It looks like I'll never get there, but I'm starting to wonder if a 1:55.xxx would be possible at all.

It's a fun little challenge that has taught me a lot about driving, if you find yourself with a spare few minutes, give it a shot.

Thanks.

EDIT, All aids off, ABS 1 or 0. Tire wear on, grip set to real. Damage at whatever you like

EDIT 2: RUF BTR '86. Mine is 388hp, 372 ft-lb torque and 1180kg. 500PP

1:55's are definitely possible, I took the car for 5 laps and got a 1:55.746 using brake balance 4/2. I'm pretty sure I could get that down to a 1:54. Had all aids off except ABS on 1.

Try holding a sort of one wheel drift through the long right hand corner (Turn 3) where your left rear is smoking but you're not sliding all over the place, it helped me hold more speed and get a better line into the sharp left after it.

You should keep trying as the car is quite hard to control and behaves differently to most other cars in the game so experience helps a lot. I'm sure you'll reach the 1:55s soon.

Just like Lotus, you have to learn how to drive RUFs. Start slow and work your way up. You'll get it.

Challenge Accepted ;)

I'll give it a shot as soon as I get a chance, I love a good challenge. Is ABS allowed?

Good to hear 1:55 is possible. ABS=1, but I don't see no ABS being a deal breaker.

It is a tough car to drive quickly. I think my throttle control is killing me.

I'm enjoying the challenge. I urge everyone to give it a shot if you are running out of ideas, the BTR isn't really an often used car.

Nice idea,i am going to try right now....with no abs :),also oil change ok? Also was it practice or arcade mode?

I've updated the original post with the info for others who want to give it a shot. Feel free to post BTR in action pictures.

My best so far is a 1:58.747 :( very hard car to drive clean.I love it

Edit: 1:58.531 My right foot is so heavy

Managed a 1:57.xxx on my first attempt, I think 1:55 is possible, but it's going to be hard to find that 2 seconds.

Online or offline?

I may try this and I probably won't break 2:10. The RUF is a very difficult car to drive (actually, I find all of them save for maybe the 3400S really challenging).

I've been doing it offline while I wait for the patch. Good to see quite a few people enjoying the BTR.

I tried for an hour last night with little improvement, then noticed my HP had dropped to 377. Looks like I'll have to keep on top of those oil changes.

Getting used to difficult cars is best done on the Nurburgring.
I remember driving the btr the first time, a complete disaster, making a lot of 360's and crashing into almost every wall around the circuit.
So I took it to the Nordschleife, driving it very carefully, increasing my pace after every successful lap. I can't remember my exact lap times but after a lot of training hours I was able to drive the thing around any circuit pretty fast and without crashing. It is still a beast to drive but I'm in control now for at least 90% of the time.

I disagree, I'm not saying you are wrong, just that I disagree. The Ring takes too long, it's frustrating enough to get a red lap at Fuji when it takes only 2 minutes to be on a hot lap again. But each to their own.

I found in speed test that the BTR likes to shift at 6k rpm early in the gearbox, so 1 through 3, but prefers to shift at the Redline up to 4th and 5th.

I'l post my splits tonight.

I guess I'll have to take another shot at this with tyre wear on (was that there when I first posted or edited in after?) which means I can't slide the slower corners. Hopefully I can improve my time even if it does take me a while.

1:56.978 with 10 laps, lol funny you said that because I was running the RUF BTR there last night just cuz, and yeah 1:55.xxx is a tough time, I used ABS >1

I added it later. I was setting it up for another run last night and realized I didn't mention it here, I set up all my practice runs using those settings so I overlooked mentioning it.

Ok, I might have a new time in a few hours, my car is only on 380hp so still a bit of engine break in to do.

Edit: Got to 1:55.855.

Is anyone using a clutch + h-pattern,i'm not sure if thats slowing me down,or whether i just can't drive haha.

I've got some offline tuning to do to decide if I'm going to enter the new 400 PP CS Shootout at the 'Ring..I'll give this a spin in the next couple of nights see what I can do...

I've heard from somewhere that the clutch in GT5 only allows you to shift at a certain speed, even if you can shift faster in real life. Not sure where I found this and I have no idea if it's true or not as I don't own a wheel.

I might try this out.

Only thing is every time I get a RUF in online shuffles it makes me look like I have just started playing the game lol.

Obviously playing offline will improve my driving a little.

But I'll give it a try. :)

This sounds cool, I've recently started driving the BTR more. The stock suspension will make it tricky, but I'll definitely try this.

I'm jonesing for some BTR action, didn't get chance to play last night, anyone got any new times?

When I get organized I'll post people's best in the first post.

Completely agree, which is why I use Tsubuka to break in all of my new cars - quick lap, and when you did a perfect one, you know it - when I can do that repeatedly, THEN I'll move over to the Ring, more of a fine tuning exercise at that point.

I accept your challenge (even though I don't like Fuji very much) - what mods are done, tires, all that jazz, and are suspension mods allowed? Or is this just full stock with an oil change?

The car is the RUF BTR oil change is fine (as is rebuild and refresh if needed) you can change the rims too. Everything else is stock. Changing the brake balance is allowed (actually encouraged 4/1 or 3/1 seems good)) and Sport Hards
Track is Fuji F offline practice, GTLife or Arcade. Make sure to set Fuel/wear on and grip to real. Damage is up to you, but unlikely to come into play

I expect I've forgotten something

Had a try, did 2 clean laps...
1'54.953 was what I got with a huge messup in sector 3, I missed every possible apex and drifted through all the corners, 53s are possible at least, maybe even a high 52.
Great car to drive.
