OK, I'm based in New Zealand and bought a New Zealand PS3.

It's the 40GB one that doesn't play PS2 games. That's the only one we get here.

Do we need a model number? I can get it if we do.

If I buy a game from Amazon.com, which is American based as far as I'm concerned, will it work in my PS3?

Thanks. :)

As far as I know you can buy and play American PS3 games on your New Zealand PS3.

The games are not region coded (or how do you call it) anymore.

I believe that PAL, SECAM are old analog CRT things. If you use HDMI and a LCD tv, it's digital.

As far as I'm concerned, by all means, buy games from the US.

:)

It depends on the game. Which one is it?

Games can be region locked at the discretion of the game maker.

I'm looking at getting GTA4, as New Zealand got some dumb censored version. :yuck:

Also, I'm not running HDMI, only the standard RCA setup. Will that matter?

I have games from Japan, HK and US Blu Ray regions (all different) and they all play fine, as of now the PS3 is region free, I hope it stays that way! :nervous:

well for me I have these few games as imports.

GT5p - JPN
Burnout: Paradise City - US
ratchet & Clank - US

they work flawlessly, just remember for any add-on's you get you have to buy them from the appropriate store so for the new burnout updates (night time and bike's) I will have to some how get it from the US store.

Yeah thats an important point 👍

Yeh they update fine but buying the add-on's is going to prove a pain, especially seeing as i purchased the Burnout game thinking it was an EU versions from a store on launch and was sold as such brand new.

Sweet. That's a plus. You have the same PS3 as me?

I'd assume so, I didn't import mine or anything. And I believe AUS/NZ has the same region in regard to DVDs as well. I'd think they'd be exactly the same.

360 is getting the DLC for now, but there have been talks of PS3 getting it later on.

From,
Chris.

The absolute answer is yes you can play games from different regions(unless the game maker made the game's region locked).

Though addons(and updates) might be region locked.

If you need PSN Cards, you can let me know. We have them here, and I've already purchased some for other folks on other forums. So long as you have Pay Pal, that is :P

Well, according to sources, someone in NZ has paid the $NZ1400 to get the official version rated in NZ. And it got R18. (No surprises) So I may be able to get it locally after all.

I'll keep you posted.
