this is just a question for anyone who runs their own website.. if you don't then just hit that little back button on the top of your screen :p

i'm looking for some webhosting and i've been looking at http://www.theprimehost.com

they claim to have been around since 2001 and have a promo- "try your first month for a penny"(too good to be true?)

thumbs up or thumbs down?

What are you planning to use to make your site ?
PHP ? MySQL ? Perl ?...

They only mention PHP 5 support, MySQL support, Perl support, which IMO can indicate that you have to install and maintain the software yourself.

I've been hosting my site on powweb for nearly a year now. Loads of space and bandwidth, a good interaction of software available, and very rare down time. I've not experienced one moment of downtime in that year.

The support staff is fast and helpful.

Above all, it is inexpensive.

Statichost is where i've had my site since it started. The only downtime is due to phishers hosting their sites there, and needing to be removed (seems to happen a lot...), and the 2 staff members are pretty helpful :). If you want somewhere cheap and fast, i'd reccommend them. However, if your site is larger than about 30 active members per day, i'd look at somewhere bigger. I don't mind the downtime (having a fairly small site), but anyone with a community even an 8th of the size of GTP would get pretty tired with it...

If your looking for something more business aspect that try UKFast networks (www.ukfast.net), I used to work for them, the owner is a guy called Lawrence Jones and he's a pretty decent guy though Welsh, I know that's an oxymoron but it's true. He also has a very attractive wife called Gail. But anyway, they're incredibly reliable and have been voted the best host of the year in magazines more than once, though the prices may reflect that.
