Can someone please help or guide me on setting up online connectivity for my PS3?

I've got a cable modem but I've bought a D-Link Router & an Ethernet cable!

I've connected at the back of the PS3 but the IP Address is not found or there is a time out when trying to find a connection!

Kindly someone guide me on this as I'm not that good with Networking but can follow instructions!

If there is a post for wired connection then someone could let me know about it?

Thanks a million in advance!

Do you have a new ISP? I'm assuming it's a wireless router. Is it a new router?

Briefly, you're gonna need your security key from the router. Let me know. Have you gone into Settings-Network Settings-Internet Connection Settings? That's how you get set up initially.

It's a wired router! I just bought this router from a retail shop so I'm not aware if a security key was there already?

When I try to scan for connection, it can't find it! If I plug the cable internet wire back to my PC then the PC has net connection but when I connect it to the router, the PS3 console can't find the connection! The Ethernet cable is also new!

What is the first most step you did in PS3 to initiate the online connection? What settings did You go for?

I am not familiar with a wired router.

However, this is what I did with my wireless router which can also be used wired.

1. I downloaded the users guide for the router from the manufacturers website into PDF.

2. It contained a link (website-usually they just give you an IP address to plug into your browser address bar) to go to set up the router. It configures your router to your internet connection.

3. Once that was done I got the security to and went to the PS3 and plugged it in using a manual set up.

You're PS3 is probably asking for the IP address of your router. Being wired you probably don't need a security key. I would check the manufactures website for a users guide for your router. Even if you're able to get set up without it; it will come in handy later on.

Try connecting the PS3 via an ethernet cable (to test things out) and when setting up the PS3 internet settings, set everything to "Automatic" or "Easy".

If it can find an IP address then things are good, and you can start working on your wireless connection.

It sounds like you might need to call your INTERNET service provider and have them reset you IP address. Not sure about where you are but where I live in the mountains of Bristol,Virginia USA my ISP which is the local electric company gives you 3 IP addresses 2 you can use 1 for them to use for tech service (I know sounds strange that I can't use all three) anyway you might have used up your IP addresses they should be able to reset them with just a phone call.
This might help you some :http://community.us.playstation.com/thread/3025578

That's ethernet cable directly through your cable modem.

Actually, today morning I connected the PS3 directly to the Modem instead of the router & everything worked fine! I was able to download & install updates which went for about 4 hours!

When I disconnected my PS3 from the modem & plugged my PC connection back to the Modem, the PC was not getting any Internet due to Binding issues! I called up my ISP & they got the binding done to get my Internet working on the PC!

If I want I can connect my PS3 back to the modem but at the cost of my PC not able to bind with my ISP & with the router the PS3 doesn't work!

So don't know what to do!

So you have a cable modem with an Ethernet port. When you run a wire from this modem to a pc or ps3 it works. But if you go through your new router it doesn't. Is this correct?

If so, it means you have to configure your router first. First of all, be sure that this router is designed for cable and not ADSL otherwise it won't work. Then you just need to configure the router to work with your cable modem. As stated above, the best thing to do is contact your ISP and get them to help you. If they don't (which they might if they are unfamiliar with your model of router) come back here and we can go in to more detail.
