I've seen lots of people now mentioning in nascar to turn ABS off..

why is this?

Is it true that it applies a kind of active stability effect on the cars when its on 1?

I have noticed a couple of time on the ring in quick cars, soft tyres and 170+ mph corners the car will unsettle and settle itself quite unnaturally..

Is this the reason why?

On some of the licences it does, and the ASM slows you down just a bit. To get gold more easly i would have ABS on 0. You realy don't use the abs that much anyway.

Does it apply outside of nascar ?

like online etc?

ASM prevents the car from oversteering by braking the inside wheels and adjusting the steering angle to stop you from going into a slide. It's bad because if you go into a corner a little hot, oversteer will scrub speed from the car and you can usually recover, still make the turn somewhat quickly and carry on. ASM will just cause you to go off the track.

if you use a steering wheel you can switch off the asm while racing. i did and won by 10+ secs every time. well not on daytona i was last.:grumpy:
