Can someone help me with black and white backgrounds?

Hello everybody. What Im trying to do is a colored car with a black and white background. I just cut out the colored version, and pasted it onto the black and white version. Can someone please teach me how to do this properly in GIMP? Thanks

 
What programs do you have?
GIMP and Paint.NET are the best free ones.
Here you go. I can make the reflection in the windows B&W if you want. I need to redo part of it.
 
I used GIMP. What I did was cut out the colored car, and paste it onto the black and white copy. Whats a better way to do it?
 
Use the magic wand a hundred billion times (better than rectangle selecting a thousand billion times :) ).

Here's a nice little tutorial.
 
GIMP has the pen tool. Use that to do a selection around the car. The invert the selection, and use the Hue/Saturation to pull the color out.

And presto, should have a nice Grayscale BG with subject ;)
 


In case you didn't want the magazine logo.
