WEBSITE OF MENTION:
http://www.toyota.com/vehicles/future/volta.html

DERIVED FROM WEBSITE:
"In 1800, Alessandro Volta arranged zinc and copper discs in a column and invented the battery. 204 years later, Toyota has electrified automotive history with the first high-performance hybrid, named in his honor. The Giugiaro-designed carbon-fiber body seats three people abreast and features "drive-by-wire" controls, allowing you to position the steering wheel and pedals in front of any one of them. And the Volta's 408-hp Hybrid Synergy Drive (a 3.3-liter V6 with an electric motor for each axle) not only delivers 435 miles on a 13.7-gallon tank, but 0 - 60 acceleration in a mere 4 seconds. Somewhere, Count Volta is smiling."

Can the Toyota Alessandro Volta change the way we look at supercars? Normally, we like to think of supercars as having exotic V-10s and V-12s with heart-stopping performance. The Honda/Acura NSX proved that you can still have supercar fun for a lower price. But this machine can change the way we look at supercars because it still has heart-stopping performance in a small tank. For those of you who travel, you can imagine what 435 miles would be like. It can seat three (like another famous superexotic), and comes with four-wheel drive... like ANOTHER superexotic.

Do you think this concept will change the way we look at supercars?

Well, we will have to change the way we look at cars (or they're engines at least) in general.
And when that happens, I hope something like this will be the way forward.

Hiya! :D :O

I really think this Toyota can serve as a two sided thing when it comes to changing the way we look at supercars. The first one would have to be the general public. This car's look I am sure will get all the general public to look at it as a supercar already, but will go "wow! Toyota made a sports car! must be expensive!" (Although I see that supercars are called SPORTCAR all the time over in Cali). The public probably wont see how this car is rather different from the other supercars. They will think its like the standard supercars. standards such as: V10 or V12 engine, 5.0+ Liters, Two seaters, and EXPENSIVE!

Probably to some of us and me, I would look at this as a new way to make a supercar. The reason for this is because of the engine. I would never thought this kind of engine would be placed in a car that looks like a supercar! :O And the big thing is its Toyota! :O very unexpected to me and possibly to some others to see a company looked as for daily affortable cars to now make something sporty! :O

To John: omg did you put that McLaren F1 Avatar on for me...*sniff* omg omg... aiya... me.. want...*begins to collapse to her knees* *cries* Ahhhhh! omg omg I want it! *faints*

That be right (pardon my Eubonics), McLaren'sAngel. You wanted a face-lift for your Avatar, and I wanted to as well. I got the Gulf McLaren, one of my favorites until a beautiful JGTC McLaren is available.

Anyhow, I like the direction Toyota is going with the Alessandro Volta. I mean, I thought the Zero EV-1 was a nice concept (I'll find more pictures in the future, but it looks like a Le Mans prototype. Plus I'll update or edit if this is the right name of the car), but Toyota did one better. I mean, if you can't call this a supercar, you'd may as well call the Saleen S7 a mid-engined muscle car.

Your chance to reply is now. So go ahead.

Nissan was looking at using electric motors for the next GTR, I was kinda worried but it might not end up being too bad, I'm sure they are following toyota very closely.

As an update to the electric car I was talking about, it took me at least two hours to finally realize what the hell I was talking about with the Zero EV car. This is about the only English site I could find:

http://www.zerosports.co.jp/en/ev-car/evf.html

The car is actually called the Zero EV Formula. It weighs 1040 kg or 2292 pounds (thanks to http://www.onlineconversion.com). And for the most part, I want to say it has around 219 horsepower from an engine from Subaru. I'll have to read more about it. In the meanwhile, I just wanted to discuss what the EV Formula was.

some guy was selling a FD RX-7 with a electric motor on ebay. I guess the guy got fed up with the rotaries blowing up.

I meant an electric motor as a power assist or to power the wheels and make the car lighter than with the current system.

You know, I may have to include this website in my signature because it's a nice aid in determining conversions. So once again, thanks to http://www.onlineconversion.com , here is an update to this topic. The Toyota Alessandro Volta is told to run at a top speed of 250 kph. Translated to mph, that is 155 miles per hour. Rounded to the nearest hundreth, it's 155.34 mph. Before you say something like "John, how can you say this slow machine can change the way we look at supercars? You're stupid, man," let me remind you of something. A car that goes 155 is pretty slow. But you must remember that this is a hybrid sports car. And to me, its top speed is higher than the Prius from the same car company. One such site has a PDF file that you can download to learn more about the A. Volta.

With that said, questions and comments are welcome. And by the way, I mentioned the NSX in a way of saying "you can have supercar fun for a lower price, granted you don't have the money for a Ferrari in your mind."
