Can you "feel" the cars correctly?

I am hearing mixed reviews about different cars not being modeled correctly, and the handling not feeling right.

Is it really that they threw in random physics and did not pay attention to a certain cars handling? Or is it that you cannot feel the car correctly the same way you do in real life? So you in turn say the handling must be off.

You only have the inputs of controllers and digital steering wheels, with no seat of the pants feel, and the only aids you have to make you feel the car are visual and audio with the occasional force feedback.

This has been true with every simulation no matter how accurate. Your mind sometimes collects the information its given and you form an opinion on feel, and how things should feel. Even if the car handles to a T the way it does in real life, if your combination of controller, your field of view, or your ill perception of speed in a video game are off then you could sit and preach here all day about how the handling is off when in actuality its just because you can't feel the car correctly or gauge the speed in a game as accurately as you do in real life.

Just something to think about before you flood the forums with posts and thread about cars not handling correctly. I personally have experience with several sports cars in real life and I have not found any car model yet that is as far off as some of you are making them seem in your rants about the game.

I'm pretty sure than not everything is modeled correctly. First thing I noticed about the ACR is how little drag 1000 lbs of downforce produces. The car is a lot faster, top speed wise, than it should be. It also lacks its adjustable suspesnion and aero.

Also, ever since the first GT games, cars have not come standard with their proper settings in tuning (and tuning itself doesn't do as much as it should).

Overall, I'm pretty happy with GT5 physics. All the games needs is to provide a way for you to enjoy it without GT life getting in the way.

I agree that the factory tuning specs have never been 100% accurate, the handling however is usually good enough to be reasonable for the car thats being driven.

I am reading posts from people acting as if a GTR is handling like a GTI, and thats not the case.

the only car Ive had problems with is the lotus Elise top gear challenge. It might be due to the hard tires but im having a hell of a time keeping it on the track. I have never driven an Elise so i cant say if it is correct or not. Anyone else having a problem with this challenge? I have a g25

All I know is that cars are a lot more touchier, and finally I can spin someone else out. That's a good enough improvement for me. You actually have to drive like you could spin it. Or someone else.

Yeah I'm not sold yet. Some of the cars feel spot on (GT-R, 458, LFA) but the Lotus is definitely way off and I wasn't sold on the Gallardo or LP-640. Both Lamborghini's are impossible to power oversteer and the LP-640 suffers from sever lift-off oversteer (as discussed in another thread)

Both of those cars are AWD and from what I understand the computers help correct errors the driver makes when losing traction.

I realise that but the system in both cars is still rear biased. But yeah the lift-off issue with the LP-640 is more significant.

On the plus side, the Lamborghini's sound amazing 👍

I think PD have shot themselves in the foot with some of the silly tyre choices they've given to cars - the Lotus in the Top Gear test (the one that seems to draw most complaints) is on rubber more appropriate to a Lego model which is why it's over-keen to rotate even for a short mid-engined car. I've got a similar Lotus in GT Mode on normal tyres and it's fine.

The other thing is brake balance seems half-implemented; it's too far toward the rear in most cars which makes both unrealistically twitchy in braking.

Of the cars I'm familiar with, the simulation has ranged from good to very good once these things are dealt with. The karts are quite spectacular, too. Not had any problems with FFB on my wheel, once I set up enough deadzone to stop that odd shaking on straights. In fact the physics model combined with the range of cars is the thing that keeps me persevering with GT5 through all the stupid stuff!

I'll have to check out the brake balance etc. I'm going to buy the LP-640 anyway because it looks/sounds so good so I'll adjust the bias and throw some descent tyres on it and hopefully that sorts it out.

Agreed though, if I wasn't in it purely for the driving experience I would have thrown the towel in by now. Every time I get frustrating by one of the challenges I just take a descent car for a lap of the Nordschleife and it reassures me that this game is brilliant

The Volvo 240 is way off, it feels slow and sluggish even with stage 3 turbo.
It also seems really heavy, but that's not odd... seeing they've somehow added nearly 500kg extra to the car, is the trunk filled with fire wood? are we on our way on a camping trip?
Do we have a half ton heavy driver that will only drive the Volvo 240?

IRL, i own three cars.

One is a 1980 Buick Century Estate Wagon, it's what the Americans call a mid-size, built on the same chassis as the GNX, it weighs 1750kg.
In the imaginary world of PD, a Volvo wagon, weighs more than my Buick.

My daily driver, incidentally is a 1991 Volvo 240GL wagon, guess what, it weighs less than my Buick.
it's around 1450kg, that's over 400kg less than in game.
The 240DL sedan i had as my first car, weighed less than a Nissan 200SX s13.

So you could say i'm a tad disapointed how blatantly brutalized the Volvo 240 is in the game, and you can feel it when driving it too.

I like the feel of the WRX a lot and the SLS is great IMHO.

The Lotus deal seems to be impossible (maybe I just need a lighter touch), as it is extremely hard to keep on the road. The tire choice is AWFUL.

The Maclaren F1 is an absolute nightmare to handle! Like near impossible! Any review ive ever heard in real life about the car said quite the opposite, also could be that im crap:dunce:
