hey i haven't been here for awhile but that's not because i don't like GTP anymore, is because is can't keep up with GTP anymore, it's like i'll make a thread at 4 pm i'll come back at 6pm and i won't even be able to find it, or I'll miss a day and there will be all these new members and threads.
I bet the really old timers already went trough this and got over it but i don't know if i'll be able to get over it.
I still remeber when i wasn't an old timer and you could actually have conversations with members without losing the thread you were in. Oh well why i'm i complaining this is what is soupoused to happen.
Oh well now i'm gonna go look around GTP and see what's new;)

Yep. GTP felt it's first rush back in the early pasrt of 2002 I think it was. Around that time the GTF went down and their members came here. Some have left and some are still here. For a short time after the rush was over we got a relief and then after that relief, it's been busy ever since. I remember when you could make a thread and it'd be on the first page of new topics for at least 2 days. Heh. I miss GVX. :(

Still, it's not all that bad... I've been to places that are much more busy; You see a thread in the morning, and it's already on page 3 by noon.

Yeah, plus this place still has an extremely friendly member base, and it has some of the less hormone-crazed sex-obsessed kids that other forums have, meaning we're more open to intelligent discussion.

After visiting the GTF today, I was stunned to see the low quality of the posts and the immaturity of the members compared to this forum. Busy it may be, but I'm glad I frequent this instead of most any other forum on the Internet.

It's just as bad as everywhere. There are trolls everywhere, and i'd say there are more mentally and grammatically challenged members on GTPlanet (*cough*^*cough*) than on any other forum i've registered to. Ever been to the GT sections? It is truly awful; i'd say 70% of the posts are so poorly written a kindergarten kid would point and laugh.

Actually, I stay away from the GT sections is for that very reason. And I also mainly stay away from low-intellect threads on GTP. But even looking at some of the avatars and some of the warnings at the top of each forum on the GTF, I feel happy to be a member over here, rather than there.

The warnings are there to keep the assclowns away. The GTF is now a community based almost entirely on motoring, automotive news and such. There's even a pro racer, driving a Porsche 911 GT3RS in the ALMS. Unlike here, which is still pretty much focused on GT. I don't want to start a war between both forums again, or anything as such.

Regarding the avatars, i would look at Klos' avatar (or past ones), before saying things about the GTF's ones.

How many forums do you go to where members call each other by first name? I talk to Snoop and MazKid and them on AIM more than anybody else in the world. This board is a complete 'lifestyle' board (to borrow another non-US English term) to all the people who've been here a long time.

I really don't think its as bad as it used to be! There was awhile that I took off fom GTP because of the speed of forums, and personal reasons, but lately I have found the forums to be kinda slow.

Slow or fast pace, this community is the best forum based community on the internet. I don't plan on leaving anytime soon.

And with all respect, I think this place does a great job of handling itself. Considering that a great deal of the members here aren't even adults yet, there's really only a few bad apples in the bunch. GTPlanet does a fairly great job of policing itself, so that's why I come here when I get the chance. The mods do a wonderful job, things are kept in order, there's no issues that I can think of.

Yeah, the GTF Pit Stop has become a dwelling place for bashing one another. Having something intelligent to say will actually get ignored. Pathetic....I'm at 990 posts there, and not in a terrible hurry to get to 4 digits any time soon. I like the motorsports section, but I don't watch that much racing anymore, so I've largely stayed away. And forget about getting a response from the GT2 section...it dies about a year ago.

Anyhow, there are intelligent forums out there. (I read AtlasF1's forums a heck of a lot more than posting to it; probably a 500-1 read/respond ratio.) It depends on the average age/maturity of the members, that's what it takes. And if mods allow garbage, then that's what you get.

Well, the thing you want most at a successful forum is an inactive moderatorial (heh) staff. Shows the people are able to understand and comprehend the rules, as well as to police themselves.

I agree it is more of a life style board than anything. Atleast it is for me.
I NEVER participate in any threads regarding the Gran Turismo games anymore.
I am always in the Auto threads or in the Rumble Strip.

This is what shocks me. I know this is an old post, but damn.

The GTF i'd say is more in depth than this forum as far as lifestyle goes. Can this forum claim that it has two members that got married? Or do you guys hold meets every 3 months? No.

I don't know a whole lot of first names on here, nor do I ever see a whole lot of first names on here, actually, I see people call you by your first (and last) name more than anything.

I've technically been here since last September, but I only started posting regularly a few months ago, and I have to say that you people are the best people I have never met. It's great that GTP has a whole slew of older members here to keep things mature and under control. Although a meet would be cool, I think that posting here would seem stupid if you knew you weer going to see that person in a short time.

I plead guilty to being dumb sometimes but I can't stand it when people talk in a 'INIT MUSH YER' way. By the way, I'll admit my name is Leon, an I've never said that before but I didn't know how much I could trust you guys. We need to stick together and try to stop slagging each other off as much, because that doesn't help anyone, but I guess if you are only joking it's not too bad.

I'm only 15, so obviously I am dumb sometimes (it's a stage you go through) so sorry!

how long has mayorbill been banned for?
For good. He rarely contributed anything worthwhile, and he offended many many more members than he amused. He was warned about his behaviour numerous times, but insisted on being aggressive and a troublemaker. That type of member is not welcome at GTP no matter how long they've been tolerated so far.

I can't honestly say I'll miss him.

One-trick ponies get old pretty quickly.

I love this place! The only forum I really frequent and spend a lot of time at. Thanks Jordan!

I will admit that I felt a bit like Puffy did for a while, but that feeling has long since past. At a time when so many new members were joining, I had thought GTP had lost a bit of it's "feel" from 1.5 years ago when I first became a member here but it really hasn't, it's created a different feel, one that still gives me a sense of a close knit community but also a community that is large in scale.
GTP has become so diverse and with new forums and new members it constantly amazes me and I really can't envision a time where I will stop coming to these forums.

For the long time members here, can you envision yourselfs ceasing to come here to GTP? Do you think that we could be 20+ year members here at GTP?

(All this being dependant on whether or not Jordan feels like maintaining the GTP community for that long. And I hope that he does!)

Thanks again Jordan for creating a wonderful and friendly community!

This is coming form someone who's been banned from both GTPlanet, and the beloved GTF for which he was also banned from first.

Sorry, I've been waiting for a week to post that.

You know you missed a semicolon, right?

I have always wondered what happens when GTP gets shut down. Where do we all go from there?

There are so many people I wouldnt want to lose touch with and the net is too big of a place to track down everyone.

I just dont know where I would go from here.
