I've got a launch day 60gb fat ps3 that seems to be struggling with gt6. After 2 - 15 mins playing it just shuts down leaving a red flashing light?

I changed the output settings to 720p which now limits shut downs to once an hour but I have to put up with hairy graphics.

Does anyone know if this fixes itself once the auto install is complete? How many gb is the install?

My launch 80GB fat finally gave up the ghost as far as GT6 is concerned yesterday. Sounds like yours is overheating, mine did as well. Got to the point where I could only play for about 30 seconds before it hung up.

Since getting GT6 its been pretty glitchy for me, but with the complete inability to play yesterday, I went out and got a pre-owned 120GB slim. That one has been rock solid for me for hours of play in a hot room, not a single glitch or hiccup so far, much more enjoyable now.

I think a lot of the bugginess that people are experiencing is due to hot running PS3s. The things run hot to begin with, but throw a 60fps 1080p physics intensive game at it like GT6 and if your PS3 isn't in tip-top shape, you're going to have issues. Clean the dust out, blow a fan on it, and if that doesn't work, think about finding a newer PS3 :/

There's 2 strange things mine seems to do, others have claimed the same.

1. Turning off the PS3 without fully quitting the game, causes the file system to be restored after reboot.

2. When I start up the game, I have to hit the button on my HDMI switch to go to my PC and then back to my PS3 for the game to display, otherwise I get a permanent black screen.

These things aren't game breaking, just an awkward hassle.

Probably overheating.

Take sure it's not in a shelf next to other devices or on a soft ground like a carpet.
Also try to remove some dust. You can try the fan test mode if you want.

My PS3 rebooted when I tried to fully quit the game. No file restore for me. Doesn't do it anymore.

Fan test mode?

Out of interest has anyone tried using one of those laptop cooling pads under their PS3? Would be interested to see if they help, without having to find out by buying one first.

There are 2 ways to quite game in PS3, be sure to use the XMB menu quit option instead the simple black screen option. I used the XMB game menu and never have any issue when quitting GT6.

If it is an overheating issue, try standing the PS3 upright, that should keep it a lot cooler.

Open the case up.

Vacuum/blow the dust out.

Close the case.

Enjoy your as-new PS3 :)
