Hey everyone,

I receive messages from GTplanet.net saying my Private message's inbox is full, which prevents me from receiving new PMs.

I had 25 pms in... so i suppose that was the limit.

Now i deleted all my messages and i still get a 'limit reached' message.

What's going on?

Rogue Ssv is correct. Your "Sent" and other folders besides your "Inbox" count towards your total message count.

You agreeing with me for once makes me all warm and fuzzy inside  Ill try to let that happen more often;)
Anyway, in case you dont know, you check those by clicking on the drop-down arrow in the message page.
Uh... yeah, Ill try to get a screenshot.

Edit... uh.. how dyou save screenshots again? :dunce:

Message receipts also count as messages, so check them out too.

I'm at ZERO everywhere. and still get the message.

Can one of you guys send me a pm, see if i receive it? And let me know if you receive a message in return?

Well i received a pm from Rogue. Seems it works now... odd. any kind of 'lag' or 'time to refresh' from the server?

Well it seems like its working now.

Thanks everyone.

Can this 50 message limit applied to send only? So we can't sent if our box is full but we still can receive pm.
Do we (who send a pm) receive notification when our pm not going through?
If there is no notification this make PM system unreliable. I guess creating thread is better than PM'ing.

No you can send PM's if your box is full, you just can't recieve any reciepts or messages from other members. The system is very reliable, if the message can't be sent, you will get a message telling you and it simply won't send. If it get's sent okay you won't get a message unless you ask for a reciept of it being read which you will get if you have room in your inbox. Creating a thread isn't better than PMing if you just want to ask a specific member a question or have a brief chat with them, and it will probably get locked before they can reply, general questions and such for anyone to answer such as help with a problem with your car, I don't see anything wrong with a thread in the auto section for that, but a thread to ask member xxx about something then use the PM system or something other than GTP to communicate.

I see.
I experiencing many not replied PM, so I thought the PM system was unreliable.

I still think the system should forbid the user to send PM if the mailbox is full. And always receive a PM until maybe reach double limit. So if both our mailbox and recipient mailbox is full, we will be sure that our PM still be received.
do other forum software PM work like this vbulletin?

Most other forums do because most use VBulletin because it's a very good system for forums. The main reason PM's won't be replied to is if a member doesn't check their PM box.

That would defeat the purpose of having the mailbox limit set where it is. If you can still use the PM system as normal when your box is full, why would you ever empty it...?

If you really need to keep the 50 messages the system is storing for you, you can always download them to your own PC.

I think there's a few different formats you can download them in. You can then empty the PM's GTP is storing for you and free up your inbox.

I see. I mean other forum software, like phpbb or mybb, etc.

edit:
mybb PM posting
You cannot send a private message to because he/she has reached their private messaging quota. They cannot be sent any message until their messages have been cleared out. An email has been sent to the user about this. Please try sending your message at a later stage.

I though a good pm system suppose to have at least 2 option for limit, send limit and receive limit. Just like an email server, Exchange has 2 option for that
Prohibit send at (KB):
Prohibit send and receive at (KB):

in vbulletin the option is:
Prohibit receive at (items)

I think the option should be:
Prohibit send at (items)

when a user can't send PM when his box is full, he will be forced to empty his mailbox before he can send any PM.

It will be weird if moderator or admin can not pm someone because his mailbox is full and notify him by posting in forum. or maybe there is no limit for moderator pm?

PERFECT BALANCE
You could always just get premium if you want a bigger inbox, I think the limit for them is 100.
That still mean a lazy ordinary user will have unreliable/unreachable pm.

Admins can empty your PM box if they need to get ahold of you desperatly..
Other than that they can always use your E-Mail

maybe they don't have to, I just try it on mybb and even when the user box is over quota, the pm from admin still received. vbulletin should behave the same way too, I think........

I prefer mybb error stop screen than vbulletin error pm when notifying undelivered pm. This guarantees that we know our pm can't be delivered even when our box is full. More reliable.
