Hey all,

I am literally tearing my hair out on the license B-8, i am trying to get a gold time (42.800) and all I can seem to get is ~42.831 :banghead:, and watching the AI I overtake it at the first section (through the tunnel), we are neck and neck after the first hard corner all the way up to the last corner into the tunnel where we follow the exact same route but he comes out a small bit ahead of me.

Does anyone have any hints of how to beat the AI drawn method of completing the track i.e. breaking the blue-and-white-and-red line?

Many thanks in advance, I cant turn off the PS2 because I did all other licenses with gold and I did not save, so if i leave it will assume i have finished with a silver on B-8 and i will not get the car :(

1) you should save anyway and try to gold this one later.

2) try the search function instead of waiting desperately for Mr. Niceguy to solve your problems.

3) if you're still reading, try not to brake at all in the last corner, just slightly release the gas pedal and turn before the moment you usually do. You should come as close as possible to the inside of the corner, slightly drifting if necessary, and keep as much speed as possible.

4) keep practising : my best time is at 42.761, my second best at 42.954., my third and fourth bests at 42.955.

Welcome to GTplanet, m0nk. Thanks for trying to search.

1) You can exit the license area and save your game, then turn off the PS 2. You'll get the car once you gold the last test - no need to do them all in one sitting.

2) Is B8 the Skyline at the first section of Trial Mountain? If so, try braking just a tiny bit earlier, and getting on the gas a bit sooner as well. I did it, and I am no fast driver, so I'm sure you'll get there eventually. The Skyline is AWD and in stock form you should be able to launch off the rev limiter in 1st gear. If that generates too much wheelspin, try launching off the limiter in 2nd gear.

If it is some other test, please tell me which one. It's been a month since I golded the B license.

B8 is definitely the purple  Skyline on the tunnel part of Trial Mountain. (It took me about 200 runs to gold it).
Braking is not necessary in the last corner, just release the gas pedal when the dotted line is white and stay flat-out when it's blue. The key is to turn early to keep as much speed as possible and to use the outside/inside/outside technique described in GT1 and GT2 booklets.

He didn't say can't find but can't search , which means to me something different. (But I'm no native speaker, so I might be wrong).

you can't search on B8. Either m0nk already tried it and the search failed, or he's done searches on terms less than 3 letters and knows a search on B8 wouldn't have worked.

btw, I'm still trying to get gold on B8. No success, the best I've come is within .118 seconds. Seems harder to do than bronzing the S-license!

I wish I could offer some better advice, because I got gold on B8 in less than 10 tries. I'm not bragging, because I'm totally stalled on A7, and I get my butt handed to in every OLR event. I guess I just got lucky.

Well, here's one bit of advice, I think:

For the first tunnel, brake early and enter the tunnel way over to the left. Run your left tires through on the rumble strip and let it help pull you around. If you are wide in this corner you will wash out way too far when the suspension unloads coming over the crest. Brake early and stay to the left for entry to the hard right after the first tunnel.

Exactly the same license test I am attempting to gold right now.I am about a hair from going to my safe in the closet and getting my Glock to shoot up the ps2 lol.I've been trying it for ages with no success at all so you are not alone.

I should add that I didn't even bother trying for golds until I'd completed the game 100%. Like I said, I'm not that fast...

This is a nightmare test - I had no end of trouble with this one. One of the keys is getting the exit of the last left hander absolutely right, to maximise speed through the tunnel and along the last straight section - but I'll be honest, you need to pretty well nail every section of this test to get gold.

The AWD is a bit of a curse here, as you can't break the understeer with the throttle, and you need to hit kerbs in places to get the car turned - also, if you're too early on the power the car will wash wide, and you can't afford to clip the walls as you need every bit of momentum you can find.

The B license is the only license that I can get fully Gold.

I passed with a time of 42.799, when you need 42.800. I think the main key is the last striaght and that is where you can either gain or lose time.

When you come through the 2nd to last tunnel make sure you are almost touching the inside and make sure you hit the dip in the middle of the corner as that helps to prevent the car from getting sideways and losing traction. Usually you will miss this dip and slide to the outside of the corner and nip the wall, what you want to do is minimize the amount that the rear of the car slides out so you can get the power down. Keep that in mind and make the most of your pressure sensitive buttons.

Note: To gain more time, expanding apon what neon_duke said, you can accelerate the whole way around the first tunnel/corner right up over the kerb and beyond if you want to be sneaky. Don't change the gear until you are out of the tunnel, just beware if you missjudge the amount that you turn you will as neon_duke said get sideways and loose your line, if so start the license again.

I'm in the same shape - damn final exam.

I did something "weird" once when starting over, and the car started out like two lengths ahead almost than normal. I think that'll probably be key to beating this one.

Does anyone know how to reproduce that? It seems like its pretty much almost impossible to "set" the RPMs on launch, because the accelerator just spins that RPM gauge.

And this totally sucks - I busted my ass to pass the other tests, and I just spend like 4 hours going after that thing - can't even get past a bronze.

Seems like you'd have to nail this thing perfect to pull it off. And with this damn controller, that's just not happening.

In my opinion, the PS2 stock controller with this game is *#*$*#$ bull****. I don't know HOW you guys beat this thing - it's like you need absolute precision, and - to do GET that - no telling how many hours you'd have to put into just figuring out the nuances of the crappy controller.

Tomorrow, I beat that damn license - or this PS2 is going out the damn window.

Nothing but frustration with every game I've ever played on it.

Thankyou for all your advice, I just gave up lol. I was up til 2 last night trying to complete it, and i could not top 0.031 seconds off the time. :p never mind now to actually play the game!!

Thanks for all the replies though, even though i have started and spent the money I will go back and do that license

I am still trying to get gold for this test, after restarting. For me, it's one of the toughest tests in the whole game to get gold. In both games I have totalled hundred's of starts, consistantly getting bronzes. Therefore, I am consistantly driving incorrectly, during this test.

Off the line, you can gain car lengths, with the right revs. I try to catch a rising rev situation. and try to make sure the revs don't drop too low. Don't follow the blue line at the start. Take it inside a bit and you will be a hair faster. Your ghost will tell you by how much.

I don't do too well in the first tunnel, so I will try neon_duke's suggestion there. I also found it a bit faster if I lifted enough to stop squealing, but don't do that too much. You will know when your tires have the right bite.

I almost always take the first right wrong. I don't know, there is just something about it. The trouble is that I am out of the turn at about the same time and place as the demo car. The problem with that is I also know I am already in trouble.

Learn how to rock the car for the following left then right, pausing enough to get grip for the long right sweep to the outside second tunnel entrance.

Going through the second tunnel right is key to the whole test. If you don't get that right, shifting weight and coasting/lifting just right, chances are you blew the whole thing. I've only done it right once!

Exiting the second tunnel, you might clip the tunnel exit, the following inside wall or hit the start of the last tunnel. It's crucial that you have good grip through that area with the dip. If you are short of your ghost here, when entering the last tunnel, then restart. Chances are you will never catch your ghost by the finish line, once you have a decent one.

All I can say is stick with it and you will at least get your bronze and a good education. It's very frustrating, but it's also possible to win.

Cheers,

MasterGT

I JUST DID IT!

My hands are gnarled for life - BUT I BEAT IT!

Okay, here's the deal:

I started out with manual transmission, no assists - didn't do me ANY good.

Switched to auto trans, all assists ON. I think that's major.

Now, here are the "tricks" employed:

In AT, you can "hold" your gear - just hold down upshift and it'll keep it from shifting up.

On that first turn - the one you HATE you've seen it so many times - use the inside of the bridge - just ride on top of the thing and keep it locked in second 'til you're past it - it'll give you more speed straightaway into that first corner. Soon as you clear the bridge, release the lock on the gear, let it shift up into third.

Now just manage the corner and get around clear, full throttle. Keep full throttle, etc.

Now RIDE those damn things on the side of the road on that next turn. You can almost keep full acceleration that way.

As for the final spin into the tunnel - I just aired it out and got lucky I guess. Most time spent crashing into the first turn to get the speed right :)

Anyway, hope that helps. Believe it or not, it can be done.

Saved the PS2 from being tossed to the curb.

But the hands - seriously mangled. Ouch.
