Capture card experience needed

I bought a capture card from a local pc supply that was closing down (compusa, dont know if its just my area or all over, i hope all over because that place is horrible!). It came software called WinTV2000 i believe it was. My question is does the software effect the quality of video you get from the card or is it pretty much not an issue in the quality? I was so excited when i got the capture card so i could rip replays and all and make videos that looked better than my PAS Sony camera recording off the screen, but was left with pretty dark video that wasn't much better than my PAS. Also had an issue with the sound, no matter what level i set the sound to in the software or on my pc it was always so loud it was clipping. And when i say clipping i mean so bad that you just have to remove the video's sound. I hate to do this in my GT3 drift video's because i love to hear the motor and tires screaming! Im pretty good with pc's and have a 2 year degree in industrial electronics so feel free not to dumb down some advice or solutions for me

Here is a link with 4 videos i made using the capture card and the bundled software, i figured i would show you to see if its a typical picture or if it could be improved with different software IYO. I also applied auto levels in all of the clips while editing to brighten it a hair. I couldn't brighten it to where it should be because if i increased the brightness that much the image would be blown out Also i don't care if its shareware or if it has to be purchased, price isn't an issue either because i will be using it to rip videos from my camcorder and its a pretty decent one and i don't want to lose quality if possible.
