Car audio question

Wasnt sure if I should put this in electronics or CIG but I figured I'd get better responses here.

Anyway has anyone here ever used hifonics amplifiers? Are they any good or just crap I shouldnt waste my money on? Any opinions from you car stereo nuts would be helpful

Hifonics is say a non-brand name. . . In all honesty you should match frequency responces, frequency ranges, noise level (keep it at a low) Watts RMS that is. . . Umm, man it has been so long. I had a Power Acuastic amp, a Sony eXplode amp, a MTX crossover, two 12's from Rockford, Infinity Kappa in the mids and hisghs components and a Panasonic head unit, which was realatively cheap to pu together and it sounded better then anything I heard from people with custom build things and "specialized" parts they paid out the kazoo with. I mean 5 to 10 grand systems sounded about the same and below 5 grand they could not match up with a properly built and matched system : )

Never heard of it. I had a 75w Rockford Fosgate way back when and it was plenty loud for listening. If youwant to annoy all cars on the road it might not cut it, though.

To add to what miata said, look for the SNR rating. It stands for Signal to Noise Ratio. The level should be around 80-90 for car audio amps. The higher, the better.

thanks I knew I forgot something. . . There are a few more things I forgot, it has been too long since put a system together.

Same here. I haven't had a loud stereo im my car for about a decade now.

It has been since I had the civic. . . I'll tell you, electronic engineering school really helped out with designing that system : )

Electronic Engineering. . . . Self Inductance was covered when I was 21 : ( It sucked monkey nard. . . I graduated fully when I was 23. . . about 2 years ago.

Ok, I made up my mind, screw the no name brand amp, I'm gettign a rockford fosgate, If I'm going to do it I might as well do it right the first time.

Might I suggest telling what your other components are first and all their specs before you go out and buy any amp. It might help to get some more advice so we can help you get the most bang for your buck : )

Well the only thing changed in my car was the headunit and two 10 in woofers in a bandpass box, that I got for my birthday. The factory system in my Honda was already pretty loud as it was so I don't need to change anything else, I just want my system to sound good, and give some really great sounding rock music not wake up people in canada. Also would I be able to turn it off? Like when I don't want my subs blasting out the ears of my friends but I still want music?

2, 6x9 factory accord EX speakers
2, 6 1/2 up front ( I think)
2, tweters
Headunit: Pioneer DEH-P7600MP
Subwoofer box looks like this:

Woofers: 2, 10" Infinity Kappa Perfect 10.1d
Amplifier: ??????

Ok So I'm trying to install my amp and I spent like an hour looking for a hole in my firewall, and I cant find one.(and there is no way in hell I'm going to drill into my car)...so I found a rubber plug under the carpet on the front passenger side (the amp is mounted under the front passenger seat because I need room to carry stuff in my trunk) and ran it out through the bottom of the car then up into the fender then from the fender into my engine bay, and to the battery. Now, the problem is I have about a foot or so of power wire hanging under the car, it's pretty snug along the top so no worry about draging, but will the weather have any effect on it? Keep in mind I live in Arizona, cold is not an issue but heat is. so what should I do? I figured I'd get some tubing and wrap it around the outside then tape it all with all weather tape will that work? Anyway basically I want to know the best way to protect that wire and any adverse effects that may result from the wire being out like that.

Another thing, when I ground the amp, since it's under the seat can I just ground it to the metal frame of the chair or someplace else?

Ok so the ground works and everything is attached. the only problem is that my remot turn on wire doest work.... my headunit says to use the same blue wire that my antenna uses, so I disconnected my antenna (since it wont go down anyway, the motor works, I can hear it when i attach the wire but the mast is broken) anyway so when I attach the remote turn on the amp wont start. I know its the remote turn on becasue when I attach another wire from the power cable to the remote turn on spot on the amp turns on I've tried like 3 different wires thinking maybee the wire i'self was faulty but to no avail. So is there anywhere else I could attach the remote turn on?

You mihgt have mixed up your power and remote wires, try swapping them. . . See if that helps

Thanks for the help everyone everything is working great now!

Mile: Legacy parc? (yeah it's with a c, wth is up with that?) Thats pretty close, no worries though, I don't blast my music in residential areas, I hate people who do that. If I'm on the road yeah I'll occasionally let it rip but once I hit the residential areas I'll turn it down.
