Car Insurance

I'm currently having problems with car insurance. Or rather....my parents are having problems seeing the goodness of paying my car insurance, and I can't get a job, as next school year is going to be hell and I'm gone every 2 weeks over the summer. So....I was looking to take a survey:
How much do you pay for insurance?
What kind of car is it for?
Where do you live? (yes...that affects it....)
How old are you?
and...Male/Female?

Personally....I'm a 17 year old guy living in San Jose, California (insurance went up when we moved here from Sunnyvale). I drive a 1993 Toyota Pickup of the cheapest variety. I (or...my parents) pay $150 a month for this POS to be insured under me.

Why can't you get a job?
If you really sit down and think about it, you probably could get a job, part time, and earn enough to pay your insurance. Let's say that you work 1 day a week. That's 4 days a month. In that time, even earning minimum wage, I'm sure you could earn enough to pay for your insurance.
Maybe you could work out a deal with your parents and offer to pay half of the insurance. They might be more receptive to that, and that will show them some responsibility on your part.
If your parents are having some financial problems, don't you think that you should do your best to help them out?

Just think about it realistically, there is a way for you to pull this off. Otherwise, it looks like you may have to give up your car, and that seems like it's out of the question for you.
So if you need the car that badly, I don't see why you wouldn't put forth a bit of effort to keep it, and help out your parents in the mean time.

Anyway, to answer your question, I'm insured through USAA and have $100,000/$300,000 policy in full comprehensive coverage.
I'm male, 29 years old and I live in Colorado. (Colorado is one of the highest priced states for insurance.)
I have a 2001 Lexus IS300 and a 1990 Subaru Legacy on my policy and it costs me about $230 a month. I do have a few tickets on my record so I'm not getting the best price around, but it's the best I could find and it's with a top notch company.

Well....next year in school I'm taking 6 ap classes...and this year was hard enough with 3. Over the summer, I'm gonna be here for a couple weeks, then leave for a couple, then come back, then leave again. So....unless someone wants to employ me for only July 1-10 and August 1-15, I don't have a job. I doubt many people want an employee that's leaving after 1.5 weeks of work.....twice.

Go to a temporary work agency. That way you can work whenever you can. You don't get hired on by a company so your schedule wont get in the way.

All you need to do is find one in your area, go there and fill out some preliminary paperwork, and then you will be able to work through them, whenever your schedule permits.
I employ temps all the time and I have to pay a premium for them. The lowest wage I can pay them is $15 an hour. $3 an hour is taken off the top by the temp angency so that means I pay the temps $12 an hour. That's not bad money and you can probably get paid by your temp angency for the hours you worked, that day.

4 drivers amongst a civic and an accord comes to $800/month canadian (586.116 USD) without liability coverage. We REALLY REALLY need to get a new insurance company

I'm 18 yr old male, been licensed for 2 years now and I've taken all the courses required to help reduce my insurance fees. It only helped mine by 10% :irked:

How much do you pay for insurance?

About $90/week ($4320/year).

What kind of car is it for?

2004 Mercedes CLK55 AMG.

Where do you live? (yes...that affects it....)

New York NY 10038.

How old are you?

27

and...Male/Female?

Male

Other stuff that affects it - I'm married to a younger woman with a clean driving record. When insurance comes due in July, I'm changing her to the primary driver so I'll pay less. Also, I've got about five or six speeding tickets in the last year and I've had three not-at-fault accidents, and my commute is about five miles in heavy traffic.

Worst part is that's just one car - we've got six. My wife is listed as the primary driver on every other car, which includes a six-speed Chevrolet Corvette and a Porsche Cayenne Turbo (I don't even believe I'm insured on her Audi A4) and yet we're still paying at least $1300 per month total - about $15600 per year ($1.78 per hour!).

He could work as a driveaway. Do those still exist?

Ha! You pay more than I pay for two cars. I am 33, live in Phoenix, drive a Grand Cherokee and an Elantra, and am insured by GEICO.

Wow, good deal!
Is that due to your convicted felon discount?

$1,512 a year for full coverage through USAA.
2003 Mustang SVT Cobra.
Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina.
18.
Male.

That was with my Dad as primary. I no longer drive that car, though, so I don't pay jack **** for it. I don't have a clue what my Dad pays a month/year for my Lexus.

After I call USAA and tell them about you, I'm sure your dad will be paying a lot more.

So how do you like going through USAA? I think they are a pretty good company. They used to be a lot better a few years ago, now I think that they are starting to become a typical insurance company.
I've been a member with them since '91 and they have done me pretty well. Except after I got my DUI.

Dude, I'd kill you. Or, my Dad would just drop me from his policy.

Pretty good so far. Then again, I'm not sure if they've added my one wreck, and 4 tickets to the policy yet.:scared: I'm going to lose my license soon.👍

Wow, that's ridiculous!!! In Florida, When I was your age, I had an '89 Toyota P/U, and under my mothers policy i was paying 65 dollars a month.

17-year-old male, Pennsylvania-ish, something like $130 on a 1987 BMW 325 and a 1995 Toyota Camry XLE. I'm the primary for the Camry, since it's newer, and my agency is required to rape its customers like that.

25, haven't gotten a new quote yet, nor have I decided on a freaking car yet that I have been waiting to purchase for three months now. . . but the last two cars were when I was 24

1989 Camrao Iroc - $93 a month

1993 Mustang - started at $89 a month and shot pretty quickly up to $129 a month and then to $135 a month. . .

Male, 27, "South-East England", roughly the equivalent of $85 a month on a group 14 (out of 20 - 20 being stupid cars like my brother's Impreza and upwards) car.

Not bad, but I DO have 6 year's no claims discount.

Male, 34, Central Scotland. I'm £470 a year (according to Yahoo finance, that's $864) on a group 18 Peugeot 406 Coupe.

Hahaha this is funny I pay about a 1300 bucks a year, I'm 19, live in Detroit, I'm a male, and its for a 03 Blazer Xtreme.

Full coverage, including some custom parts and my sound system. I've had 2 tickets (both were campus parking tickets), serveral warnings, 2 not at fault accidents.

I don't drive yet so...................I don't pay at all!!!!!!!!!! But then when I turn 16 in 2 years, that'll be a different story. :)

right now im taking drivers ed.
it sucks.

Goomba
I pay $330 a month on the WRX.
:scared: Good gawd man. You pay more than I do and I have a Lexus and a DUI. Oh, and 3 speeding tickets within the last year or so.

You're getting raped.

$6000 totalled car, speeding ticket, wreckless driving ticket. I even got a statement in the mail from State Farm basically saying, "We're watching you.".

My wife is the primary driver of our car (although she's medically not allowed to drive at the moment), I'm "other driver #1".

£255 per year
Ford Focus 1.8 Zetec
Off-street parking, suburban Edinburgh
30
Female.

I suspect that we could be able to get a better deal come the end of July when the insurance runs out. This is because we'll be setting up the policy as Comprehensive, rather than the "upgrade" policy we're running at the moment.
