GT7 today can be seen as an experiential platform, capable of hosting multiple automotive languages, even beyond traditional racing.
In this thread, I’m not trying to propose any revolutions or force drastic changes. Instead, I want to explore how modes like car meets, drag racing, and drifting could be organically integrated into the game by leveraging what's already in place. I know many reactions might be negative, but I want to open a solid discussion to understand whether the community genuinely wants a Gran Turismo that embraces all kinds of car culture.
If you have serious arguments against these ideas, I encourage you to share them to help spark thoughtful debate.
Some people will understandably say: “But these features belong in other games like Forza, NFS, The Crew.” I get that, but I think that view is reductive. Online challenges in those games are often shallow and biased. GT7 already has many of the tools needed to make these experiences feel authentic. They just aren’t yet streamlined into accessible or shareable content.
-- Drifting is already supported by a few challenges and scoring systems, but it’s limited to personal records; there are no leaderboards based on car type or track. It feels like an afterthought.
-- Drag races already happen online with self-imposed rules and no official support from PD, as if they didn’t exist at all.
-- Visual customization is detailed and diverse. Car meets are already happening online, but still with zero official support or structure from PD. The livery editor, in the right hands, makes each car look unique with no downsides, so the issue is certainly not a lack of variety.
If Polyphony Digital didn’t want any of this, they wouldn’t have implemented the foundations to begin with. The point is: why not give these features proper value? Why not structure them into optional but coherent content that expands the interaction between different kinds of players within the GT world?

This thread will explore realistic, sustainable ideas for:
- A proper Car Meet system, with a better voting system, and some more views, maybe a minimal increase in the value of the car with more votes
- 1v1 Drag Races with a real starting light, validated launch, and knockout rounds.
- An Online Drift Mode based on tracks using Point Race layouts, with records and rewards for top scorers, or knockout rounds too.
- And carefully.. a Wager based on credits or cars, tied to special multiplayer events or battles against Sophy. (This might sound like a long shot, but it could bring genuinely new dynamics, tension, and excitement to the game. I’d need a separate thread to explain how I’d implement this properly, but I’ll throw the idea out here to see how it holds up, just like I did with the qualifying discussion.)
