OK. I tried this before, for GT4, but never completed because real life has been a little strange and didn't touched the game for more than a year.

Before GT5 release, just after the official car list was public, I selected 200 cars. My favs, iconic & crazy cars. Two hundred cars I want to hotlap, race crash and roll until satisfied. Two hundred cars I wish to rank using a simple ranking calculator I developed since the times of GT2.

Rules are straightaway:
- Production cars all with Comfort Medium, Race cars with proper Sports/Race tires.
- No TC, SRF, active steering.
- No tuning at all. For production cars: no oil change for new cars. Just gear tweaking / wings adjustment for race cars.
- I prefer car specs adjusted under IRL car specs, but rule is mandatory for 3rd part times.
- Laptimes OLR complaining (2 tires on track etc)
- Ten test tracks: Cote d'Azure, Tsukuba, L.Seca, G.Valley, Suzuka, Nurburgring Nord, Monza, LM2005 UC, Indy and Daytona ovals.
- The ranking will be a weighted average of the laptimes on these tracks and a weight based on track parameters.

The project will end with GT6 release, maybe....
The project will be extended to more cars, if I have time
Anyone can contribute with submitted times. Just post here your intention and contribute to the sheet in my signature, created by HotRodKing & his friends.

After more than a week spent mostly with Caterhams, Civics and Cappuccinos WHERE YOU KNOW, it's time to retake production cars for some quick laps
You may have realized that I'm hotlapping cars in a progressive search for faster ones.
I have a list of 200 favorite cars. Here are #38 #39 and #40 of that list.

Let's continue the hot hatch battle. After some slower cars (Lupo GTI, Punto, etc) it's time to enter a higher range of cars. I started with:
- Citroen C4 VTS: 2.0 N/A engine, compact class
- Peugeot 207 GTI: 1.6 turbo engine, subcompact
- Seat Ibiza Cupra: 1.8 turbo engine, subcompact

Stats say Ibiza would be faster: 401 PP vs 383 (C4) and 390 (207 GTI), and also my evalutation gives similar results:
307.58 Ibiza, the lightest
304.88 207 GTI, mid weighted and torque master
304 C4, heavier and with less torque, but with 225 tires and a better aerodynamic

So the facts, I added times on every one of my 10 test tracks, with no surprises

The C4 was a good run, but its good aerodynamics only worked at Daytona SS. Larger tires was made for a good grip, and the car is funny to drive, with a little manageable understeer. My first car to break the Nordschleife 9 minutes wall.

The 207 surprised me for the setup. No turn-in understeer at all, just a little exiting tight corners, and a very good handling in-corner. If you miss the apex, a little touch on the brakes and the nose turn in with easy. Top speed surprised me, as CX is not that good, but torque at hi revs helps a lot.

Finally, the Ibiza. At first try I said: "what a bad gear spacing!" The Citroen and the Peugeot gears are very well spaced. Ibiza has a shorter 1st and 2nd, and a much taller 5th
Second words: "what a shame, with this understeer, the 207 can't be beaten".
Surely I said it in italian, and not as clean speaking as I report here.

After a few laps I realized that the Ibiza has a very stiff setup, which give you a lot of understeer. If you miss braking point it's almost impossible to turn in and hit apex. With some laps I managed to brake correctly, and was surprised for how much speed I was carrying through the corners! At Nordschleife it's about 7" faster than the 207 GTI, and 9" compared to the C4. Also my first car to break the 5' wall at Le Mans unchicaned.

The Ibiza can't beat the GTI on slower tracks (Montecarlo, Tsukuba, L.Seca) and also is not very fun at Suzuka. Its field are medium to very fast tracks, and it's the overall winner, at this time.

Ranking:
Ibiza 345 pts.
207 344 pts.
C4 339 pts.

The battle continues.....

Love this idea. I kinda used to do something similar except I only used the Tilke'd Fuji setup since his tracks are known to be more car circuits rather then driver circuits.

What in the world are those #'s dude?

What in the world are those #'s dude?

You mean the numbers?

It's the result of a weighted average of 10 laptimes on different circuits: Cote d'Azure, Tsukuba, L.Seca, G.Valley, Suzuka, Nurburgring Nord, Monza, LM2005 UC, Indy and Daytona ovals.
Laptimes are available in the googledoc linked in signature..... when the admins will fix it.

Math is a bit long, I use a ranking calculator spreadsheet to do the job.

That track lacks in fast corners. It's good to test speed, braking and traction. I also hate it. Loved the historical configuration available in GT4 :(

Love the BMW 120d. It's the only Diesel engine production car in the game, and also the only FR (modern) compact available.
Massive torque and driveability help this car superseeding the most powerful and light Citroen C4, and can beat Mini Cooper S and 207 GTI on some tracks.

Just remember to not redline the engine: I usually change gear at 4500rpm, 4200rpm for 5th and 6th. It's an almost oversteering car, with a soft setup. There is a lot of work for arms to go fast :sly:

Best race to have fun? FR challenge Trial mountain. I know I can win, but it's sooo hard.

It's a shame but Lap Board (by HotRodKing) isn't working very well.... There's a lot of trolls making their work... Maybe we can create another board with better options. It's easy to create the same kind of sheet without the problem we (and trolls) know. We just have to create a sheet and a form, so nobody (but op) can erase the data, and everybody can introduce new data.
This way troll just can introduce fake times... But it's easy to delete the data from no "trusted" users...
Do you know if HotRodKing is still alive? XD I'd like to restart the board again with a troll barrier...

Also that board suffers of a massive disomogenity among tabs. I'd try to support him. If only I can see him online....

I update ranking scale to match PP system as it was before 1.06 (or 1.07, don't remember exactly). So expect lower stats for car with Comfort tires and almost the same with soft sports / racing hard.

I agree on suporting the actual board, but doing some changues in order to avoid trolls. It's easy to do, and we have many diferent ways to do it...
It was a nice database. I will contribute if you made it work :)

New cars added:

EUNOS Roadster ('89) - underpowered: hope the 1800 pushes more
HYUNDAI Tiburon Turbulence ('99)
BMW 120d ('04) - very nice: happy countersteering due huge torque
MINI Cooper S ('07) - power band too flat and too few torque on high revs. Shift at 5600 rpm.
PEUGEOT 206 RC ('03) - lots of understeer under throttle. Very fast 2 liter hatchback. Currently first in the board 👍
TOYOTA 2000GT ('67) - why all these classics have so little grip? A supercar with tiny tires. A bit like modern Elises. Oversteer is very progressive and easy to control. Amazing long 3rd gear, then 4th and 5th are like gun shots. Very fast car in very fast circuits. What surprised me was 2nd place (current) in Indy speedway, just after the Ibiza and ahead of the 206RC.

The hatchback battle....
As I guessed before, the 120d and the Mini couldn't overcome the faster 206RC and the Ibiza.. nor the easy handling 207GTI.
The BMW is a very interesting car, as I wrote some posts ago, but too heavy and with less power compared to opponents. Power to weight ratio is totally different for this car, but still competitive thanks to the engine (diesel) and rear traction.
The Mini, compared to the other turbo cars, developes power too early.
The Peugeot 206RC is a sporty FF beast. Hard to make it corner due to the stiff setup and front wheel traction. Very hard to go faster than the Ibiza, but it goes.
