I don't understand the selling of cars. I have some nice Class A cars that the game will buy back for 100CR. Then I have some others, even lower class that did not cost me as much as the A Class car that the game will buy for $150,000CR. What gives? Neither have upgrades.

100cr. resale value denotes any one of three things:

1. It was gifted to you.
2. You brought it with a Token.
3. You purchased it from the Auction House (If Applicable)

The only way a car will be able to resale for 2/3 (or is it 1/2? I can't recall at the moment) is if you brought it from the dealer. Directly.

Got it. It was gifted by the manufacturer. Thanks :)

Semi-related question: Can I auction off a car I won from an auction. I got a sweet Chevy Grand Sport for 94,000, and I'm wondering if I may be able to make a profit by reselling it.

Yeah.

As long as it isn't a Unicorn or any vehicle purchased with a Token (as I discovered last night giving out the PMC W4 prize), you can resale it.

Okay, that leads me to one final question: What is a unicorn car? I know this particular Corvette isn't one, but I don't know anything about what unicorn cars are

Unicorn cars are rare cars gifted by Turn10 or rarely put up in the "Unicorn" section in the auction house!

There is nothing special about them other then being rare.

Though I would kill to get my hands on the Top Secret Supra :sly:

Isn't the 2008+ WRX STI sedan a unicorn? I'm a little bitter they decided to pull this unicorn nonsense with that car, because I prefer that version of that Impreza over the hatchback, but it doesn't seem like I can acquire it normally. The AI even races me with it.

Anyway, I was going to point out that the 100cr selling price is a convenient way to identify all of the gift cars in your garage. Because the game insists on auto-upgrading them and the auto-upgrade system is pretty dumb, I went through every 100cr car and reset the upgrades to stock. If you don't do this, you may be tempted to use a gift car you've never tuned in an event or online race -- because it's all you have that's eligible -- and lose horribly because it has significant power upgrades on stock tires. The higher-end gift cars are terrible about this.

The WRX was a pre order car, I got it, badly want the BMW 1M :(

The game already has that too? I figured we'd be seeing it in DLC. I really wasn't into FM/FM2/FM3 so I never paid attention to this stuff. :grumpy:

Can charitable owners of these cars even buy duplicates from the dealership and share? This is kind of crazy. How are you or I supposed to get these cars we want?

Same here. I didn't even pre order, I bought an Xbox 360 with the LCE about a week after release, and the guy in the shop gave it to me.

You can buy codes for these cars off eBay, but they are pretty pricey, there is no other way to own them unless you win a T10 comp, I imagine we will see the pre order cars available to buy from XBL in a few months!

I'm especially bitter about the Subaru, since it a top-notch car and they even included it in the demo. It's just weird they would make a car like that a unicorn... I pre-ordered the LCE over here in Holland, but I think you only get the Subaru at some (or one) American retailer with your pre-order?

If only you'd have mentioned it right at release: I had an extra copy of the game due to Best Buy's incompetence, which meant two 1M codes. The only other pre-order I would've liked (though still not as much as the one I got ;) ) was the WRX.

A friend bought the game and code off me for retail though!

3 is wrong. Just looked at my Ultimate Aero and it's worth exactly what I paid for it - 525,700. So, yeah, the most profitable way of reselling a car is through cars purchased from the AH.

Which makes a world's worth of sense.

^ I just bought a Mercedes DTM from the Auction house for 450,000 Cr and it's in garage value is 100Cr. The original owner must have selected this as his award car and went to make a profit on it... Which is cool with me because even marked up to 450k Cr, it is still less than 1/2 of the cars in game price. So it's a win:win... Although I think I made out on this one. The Mercedes DTM isn't a piece of junk this time around. [insert sinister laughter]

Because of the 100Cr and people's need to get a quick Credit, I have scored some awesome deals from the AH in FM4. A lot of the cars, the original sellers did not know what they had. I got a GT40 for 200K, a Maserati Racing MC12 for 85K, A Radical for 100K, a Focus ST for 5K and so on... Although it's not the regional discounts, the AH does have it's share of deals. IMO it's better than FM3's AH where I had to be a junk dealer in order to make some money and afford the pricier cars.

I dislike this post

Those are some epic deals. I've only won two cars so far, I got a Focus at the same price it has in the dealerships, except it was tuned and had a paintjob. I thought I got a good deal.

You mean bought, not brought.

I generally suck at the AH car stuff. Really want to win some stuff and so far I think I only won 2 cars that were won at less value than what is in game. I usually buy liveries for the most part.

I hate losing in the AH. Many times I've found a good deal on a high-end car, so being a low level I get excited and place a bid. Then some high-level a-hole who probably has every car in the game swoops in and runs up the bids till I can't afford the car anymore. The worst part was I lost one bid to a guy, so I found another great deal. Then the same 🤬 comes in and screws me over again. 👎

A few cars I've purchased from the auction house are only worth 100 cr but I looked at the F50 I purchased from the AH and I was offered 200k or so to sell. Maybe it depends if the car was originally won or purchased before the AH sale.

Don't forget parts brought for that car stay with that car and adds value above the 100cr ;)

The dollars you are seeing for car value are either the original owner actually bought the car with $ or that they spent $ to put parts on the car. This is similar to FM3 where you could buy a car, sell off the parts and make your money back and then sell the carcass. That's not necessarily true for every car anymore.

As already noted, the car itself will be worth $100 sell back to the dealer if you OR the original owner got the car as a gift or an award, whether you buy it from the AH or it's gifted to you or them.

You only get parts $ if you or the original owner PAID $ for the parts on the car. If you (or them) put free parts on and then sell the car, the next person gets 0$ for those parts, they're still "free". This has really changed the way cars are in the AH now, they aren't all necessarily cash cows anymore.

In fact, anytime I get a car worth a ton of credits now, I consider it a bonus. Most times cars I win are worth the $100 bucks, that's it, no matter what the class or equipment. They were gifts or prizes and they got a ton of free stuff put on them so there's no part value to them at all anymore. This encourages people to SELL cars, but not to BUY cars. I only buy cars I have a specific use for now, unless it has some truly epic paint or look that I feel is worth something above $100.

Turn 10 has basically made every car in the game worth $100 except for the ones people sell because they don't realize they're leaving money "on the tree" so to speak.

As an example, keep track of cars you pay money for parts on...

After you clear level 4 and get the 100% free parts discount, go back through the car and sell the parts off it and re-equip it. You'll get half your investment back and get to put everything back on for free. That Prize or Gift car that was worth 40K will be worth a hundred bucks. But you'll get 20 grand back in your pocket you'd normally leave in the car or sell to someone like me...

Just remember to SAVE THE TUNE. If you don't, it will go back to default when you install the "new" free parts.

I "lease" performance parts for the first four affinity levels all the time, although in this case, it's usually better to find a car fully done in the AH for a particular make and buy it. 99 times out of 100 it's cheaper than buying the car and then shelling out for the parts to make a class or make it competitive.

There are some flipping awesome deals in the AH if you want to spend the time. When I have my fecal matter together I go in for a marathon session and go hunting. This last trip netted a ton of steals.

Sometimes it just isn't meant to be, but when you get an A4 Audi Touring Car and Aussie V8 Super Car for $12,113 bucks each, a new Judge GTO for $1600 or the steal of the night, a Lotus for $1600 that has over $100,000 resale back to the car dealer it more than makes up for the one's that get away. ?B)
