Car settings greyed out once I start practice

Can anyone help here, i am at a loss.

New to the game, loved PCars1 but just cannot make PCars2 work with a controller. I am slowly adapting to the vastly different handling in GT Sport (my god the understeer) but have an issue with settings.

Both in Sport or the Lobby I enter races where settings are free to tweak, I tweak them then enter practice but after that they are ALWAYS greyed out. Last night I asked the lobby owner and he said "they are free to change, no restrictions" ... but mine were greyed out. Only way i can get access to them is to cancel the entry then re-enter (annoying).

What am i doing wrong here because I cannot tune my cars right now which is seriously annoying.

you answered your own question. Yep, its annoying. I cant tell you how many times i've been waiting for a lobby race to start and while waiting ill tweak my tune a bit. Then as Im taking those 10sec to adjust something the race starts without me:ouch:

oh and there is no tuning in sport mode

But I have no access. So it's practice/qualy or whatever you wan to call it, I get off the track and back to the "pits" and all my settings are greyed out.

I sport mode? Ill reiterate, there is no tuning at all in sport mode aside from Daily Race B allowing you to change HP and Weight.

In the lobbies you have to cancel your entry to do any tuning. It sucks.

Offline you should be able to adjust anytime that your not on the track.

Yeah in the lobbies. So they grey out is for real? Well how stupid is that? Absolutely ridiculous.

I entered a Grp4 race at Bathurst and hit all my apexes, i was really hooked up and felt strong, crossed the line at 2.13 which felt about right because I know GT3 cars a few years back were running 2.03's and 4's. Then other times come in and they are running 2.02 to 2.04's!! Apart from making a complete mockery of the game (those times are stupid for a GT4) I couldn't trim downforce or make any other changes.

So I would have to re-enter to make those changes. Absurd.

was boost on or strong slip stream? I think those times are too fast for GR4 cars on real settings even without BOP and with tuning enabled

No they were all doing those times. I thought i entered a GT3 race by mistake. Well by all i mean I qualified 9th (last of those that did a lap), of the 8 in front of me 6 were sub 2.04's.

I am a bit of a Bathurst specialist so hung back into T1 and just NAILED the exit, avoiding the mayhem. I was up to P4 and was just BLOWN AWAY by three cars up the mountain. I then lost a second across the top but TBh i was driving at 11/10ths, and got absolutely ANNIHILATED down Conrod. They were hitting 300+ KMH.

That's insane, a 650HP V8 Supercar with less downforce doesn't hit 300 clicks.

300kph = 180mph (sorry im American) Down hill and in the slipstream tuned GR4 in this game will hit 190+mph or 316kph
One thing many new players miss is that when you upgrade your HP and weight you still have to move the sliders to adjust the actual parameters. If you dont then the actual values wont change.

In a regular lobby you can tune without leaving the lobby. Once you hit the green check mark you can not tune. You can access settings in the options or multifunction display. In order to tune you need to hit the red X to cancel entry. Then you can tune away. I think it was the same in GT5 and GT6.
