Car shopping advice - Phase II

OK, I bought an SLK, and gradually tuned it until I narrowly beat the beginner Silver Arrow cup. But that's not what this is about. :chkflag: :thumbsup: What this is really about is the Type :r: Meeting. It's the only thing I have left to do in the Beginner League.

Here's the :confused: :

Should I buy an ITR and use it for the two :r: Meetings, plus the Amateur/Pro FF series, and whatever else? I currently own a stock, undriven current-gen Celica which could be built up for the FF tasks.

Or, should I buy an NSXTR, and blow away the Beginner R cup (which would not be all that fun for me), and have a really nice car for the Amateur/Pro MR series? I already have a Clio racer, which could possibly be cranked up to higher levels.

I have the money to buy both; I'm just looking for recommendations. I'm not allergic to buying cars, I'm just trying to be a little thrifty and not buy everything that catches my eye. TIA!
 
Personally I went for the NSX Type-R. Like you said, it did blow away the competition in the beginer races, but was a great car and easy drive. I'd recommend it, and us the Citroen Xsara Rally Car for the Amateur/Pro FF races.
 
Buy an NSX, because NSX rule. Well seriously, you'll beat the competition easily with a tuned NSX Type R. Besides, your other choice Integra Type R, understeers like hell. Somone propably could tune it so that it wouldn't understeer so much, but at least I can't.
 
Hahahahah. Thanks for the advice! I don't want to beat the competition easily; I like to fight for it. With some experience making handling adjustments to FWD cars in real life, I bet I can dial out the understeer.

I know the NSX is a nice car, but I really do want to match the competition evenly. For instance, I spent a couple hours tonight beating just 3 races of the CLK55s in my SLK, because I only did one or two mods at a time, and checked my laptimes and power-to-weight ratio against theirs to make it even.

Either buy an interga for an average race or a honda accord type-r for a more challenging race. In the amature type-r you can win a lovely black NSX Type R which you could save for the polyphony digital cup. Also the integra should easily get you through the pro and amature FF cups, just dont use the turbo it makes the car lag like hell, use the N/A tune much more responisve.
 
Well buy the NSX :r: and don't tune it.... then it will be competitive with another :honda: NSX at least... :D

I just hate it. I wonder if there's any handling differences between the Honda Integra Type R and the Acura Integra Type R, because the Acura one is the one I bought and with turbo it understeers like hell, like I previously said.
 
i used the NSX-Type R and beat the Type-R meeting with it so go with the NSX-Type R!!!!

I used a white NSX-R for all the Type-R races, and have since used it in the MR races and a few others to boot, its one of my favorite (if not totally favorite) cars in the game.

Why? The correct wheels are driven, Sublime handling, excellent power delivery, and very light when all three reductions are used. To top the package off it looks fantastic and makes for some of the most delicately cinematic replays :D ... I've got a bad case of NSX fever!

I vote NSX! (For those that didnt notice.)
 
I actually used the Celica to win the FF races. I picked up the spoon civic type R by winning the FF Pro series. I think my FF Pro series write-up is floating around somewhere. On previous trips through the game I used the ITR. To do the Typr R meeting, and the FF challenges. Very nice car.

I don't think I ever posted my "Type R - Amateur" write-up. Which I did again with the Spoon Civic. I'll post it shortly.

I can't remember what I personally did, but offhand, I would go with your former choice... you certainly will kill the competition with an NSX, and I know that you don't like doing that. ;)

Check gtvault for some settings for the ITR... some of them are pretty good...
 
I won every FF race (including the pro races) with my Integra Type R.

and it only has 276hp...

Well, I went and bought a nice yellow Honda ITR. It has the boring Accord front end (I like the American bulletnose version better) but the specs on the Acura version seemed fishy.

At any rate, with the car bone stock except for oil change, I won the series handily on normal tires. So thanks to everybody that recommended this nice little car. I'm glad I didn't go NSX for this series. It would have been no fun at all.

My only problem is I rejected the first prize car (blue RSX), and then hated the rest of the colors. 25 minutes later I gave up trying to get another blue one and settled for white.
 
FF cars are awesome!
 
Yeah, what's wrong with FWD? It has inherent advantages and disadvantages. RWD is not always better. Why do you hate it?
 
I dislike FWD in r/l and in GT3 for the same reasons...

I work in :saab: Road/Race tuning, where over 230Bhp is common - trying to deploy that kind of power on the front wheels is stupid, you dont make fast progress you only make black lines in the road. From the weight transfer point of view alone it doesnt even make sense, car accelerates, weight shifts back, less load on front tyressss anddddd ... scrrreeeeeeeeeeeeeeech - going nowhere, I thought the idea of a car was to drive?

Ask yourselves why all Serious motorsport (F1, GT's etc) are RWD. If FWD was really better, they'd find a way to use it more...

Believe me, I've owned and driven both, people that really genuinely prefer FWD, are usually the ones that couldnt drive a soapy stick up a dogs ass...

I will admit its generally safer for inexperienced drivers and for cars with less than 200Bhp - but from a technical point of view - its total toilet, and should be reserved only for learner drivers... Sorry about that, its my opinion on the matter :)
 
Heheheh. Well, I have autocrossed in my FWD Neon and I have many friends who are Showroom Stock Neon road racers. All I can say is that the Miata drivers all pray it doesn't rain during the Runoffs...

I'm not anti-RWD at all. I just don't think that FWD is the devil's tool. What's your opinion of AWD systems?
 
I'm just on a wind-up anyways, I dont really mind either way, but given my choice I'd go RWD every time ;)

AWD, now theres a delicate issue I'm undecided on AWD in GT3, the Skyline isnt quite as good as everyone makes out, although perhaps I've not mastered it yet. My fave AWD in the game is the EVO 7 GSR... Trailbrake on the way in... back goes out.... raaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrrrppppppppp etc .. not very fast way to progress a race, but good fun :D

In r/l 4WD certainly does offer amazing start-line potential, but all to often its put on cars with insufficient HP to make use of it, I mean the friction losses from the mechanicals of AWD are quite big on their own. I drove an early Imprezza WRX (old shape) belonging to a customer of ours and I gotta admit I didnt give it too much abuse as I dont have the skills to really push it, but certainly the confidence levels it gives are immense, you really do feel like you could just lash it around everywhere.

I'm ok with FWD, I like AWD, and I LOVE RWD! hehe
 
All wheel drive cars are great but, ehhhhhhhh? Some good some not.
