Looking at GT4's booklet, in the credits section it says, "Car Simulation Algorithm - Akihiko Tan" ...and that's it!

On the other hand the vast majority of programmers are under the "Car Design" and "Landscape Design" sections.

So you are telling me for the excellent driving algorithm (i.e. the car handling and response to road conditions) there is only 1 man (Tan) responsible? :dunce:

Dont' forget bad drifting system, where it's either impossible to hold or no slide at all

Guys give the man a break! Yes, it's not balanced. As you said understeer and drift are bad, but I still enjoy the driving - something I can't say for any other 2005 racing title.

Also, it should be said that he adjusted and fine tuned the GT3 algorithm obviously, and did not begin from scratch. Still, just one man for a game self-procclaimed as "The real driving simulator"?

The credits for Papyrus' driving simulators also seem to go mostly to one guy. The head man has made the simulator his passion and sublet all the graphics and platform crap to 'a random assortment of highly-skilled nerds.'

Good point, it is still fun, I still play GT4 more than GT5, for the fact that in GT5 the standards look worse than they do in GT4. But the physics are impressive for a one man build

GT5 is the same. Poor old Akihiko on his own doing the physics, but a million people to model the cars and landscapes! Still, his workload got reduced by getting the work experience kid to write the descriptions in the tuning screen (well, the english versions, anyway) :p

If you're not happy with the GT's physics realism, then you're probably better off with a PC sim like liveforspeed, iRacing, etc.

This is the norm in the world of game development. You would be surprised how few software guys actually work on the majority of the products you know and love.

For most modern 3D games a team of 4-7 is the norm. The rest of the team of 100 or more people are game designers and testers, artists, 3D modelers and more.

Oh BS. The standards in GT5 look way way better than they do in GT4. A cherry picked photo 'proving' otherwise doesn't really prove anything. And there's a lot more going on in the screen than just the cars. GT5 isn't perfect, but it's a gorgeous looking game.

Let's see your game's graphics.

If you can find a game that looks better than this (100% of these shots are of standard cars), play it.

Just look at the Mazda RX-7 Type RZ '96. The lines around the headlights and the windows are jagged. I'll try and get a photo to show.

All the programming was done by one dude are you serious?! Then what about all those videos on the making of GT with dozens of people driving the cars that get put in the game. I thought the data they got from driving those cars with machines and computers connected to them is what made the cars feel the way they do when you play the game. Why have those people driving and testing the cars if that wont affect the cars in game behavior?

You mean he created the Ultimate Understeer Simulation programming?

Wow, good find. I know it's been nearly a month, but I missed this thread.

It makes sense now....the fact that 70% of all cars understeer in GT4. Cars that should and used to oversteer as well in earlier games.

That weird. GT5 has such a totally different feel from 4. I don't get it. It had to be more than one person, or maybe PD had a giant staff meeting and told him: bring back oversteer!
