http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/pna/product/detail/0,,2076_4039_35219,00.html

that

and no, i dont want a giant subwoofer taking up my precious trunk space

i have 4 standard speakers in my car, 2 small ones in the left-right front doors and 2 in the back above where you sit...i dont know how big they are though

anyone wanna help me on what i could do speaker wise for my car?

Locally, i honestly dont know whats out there for prices so thats why i ask :)

thanks for the link

Prices range from $5/pair (I'd consider this a downgrade) to thousands of $$$ ...

How much were you looking to spend ?

If you can spend the money, Kicker speakers are very good. I had them in my 240, and they sounded great. However, the fronts alone were 300 bucks, and that was with a discount I was able to get. The Clarions I had in the rear were about 100, and are very decent speakers.

The Kicker Resolution and SS line that replaced it kick ass ... I'm not too fond of their budget speakers, though ...

As with everything, you pay for what you get.

A good headunit it always a good place to start, so is a set of mids and tweeters in the front and any other sort of speaker for the back. If you're able to, get a powerful 2 channel amplifier to power your mids and tweets which would give you a solid sound when you crank the volume up. Keep your rear speakers running off your headunit, the speakers right infront of you are what's important, unless you always have people in the back then you could opt for a 4 channel amp and have all your speakers getting solid, amplified sound.

Or other wise could go with a 4 channel amp and leave the last two channels to bridge if you want to run a sub later on.

If you don't want to go with an amplifier then that's fine, that head unit you have puts out some decent power.

It only produces ~17-18 RMS per channel @ 1% THD (22 RMS @ 5% THD) ...

Although an amplifier does add a fair bit of cost for anything decent ($30+ for wiring + the amp itself would be at least $70)

Agreed on everything else ...

Why would you get a Pioneer headunit? They aren't all that great, in fact they are cheap and tend to break easily. Plus they are only go up to 50W, mine I have a Panasonic, that has all the same stuff, has 60W of power and cool looking graphics.

For speakers don't get Sony, Pioneer, or anything that looks and feels cheap. I have Alpine Type R's are they are great, but from the Polk one I've heard, they sounds better. You also can't go wrong with Inifinti, if you are looking for SQ and not SPL.

If you want a subwoolfer that is small and sounds great go with the Inifiniti BassLink system. That's what I have and it's loud, it's small, and it's only $300.

And oh ya install everything yourself, it's so easy it's not even funny.

But in order to tell you want to get I need to know what you are looking for in a system since there are so many ways to build one.

Your speakers should be
5 1/4 front
6x8 rear

I am going to back up everything Blazin said and add to it.
Install it yourself if you have any knowledge about putting things together. Most new vehicles are very easy. Especially the deck. You will probably only need the plug that adapts to the original harness. Very cheap too and it will makes your wiring install within seconds.
I also have a Panasonic deck and out of my 12 years of buying decks and building sound systems, this is the best one so far of all of them. I used to buy Pioneer but they just do not have a great sound. Sony decks arent too bad. Mabey Blazin and I are too picky but I would personally stay away from Pioneer if you want a great sounding dependable head unit. Even if you do decide to get the Pioneer you will be very happy.
If you get speakers inside your car make sure they are the COMPONENT speakers front and rear. These have the tweeter seperate from the mid and you get the ultimate sound with these. You really wont need an amp for the interior speakers at all so dont even bother if your head unit has at least 45 watts. If you spend the extra money up front for excellent component speakers you wont regret it and they will be extremely loud. The nicest part is you can place your tweeter anywhere in the car that you want to.
Most important. Make sure to get the warranty on everything. Accidents happen and if something goes wrong this is extra security.

If you decide to get subs we can discuss that later. I have MOMO POlK subs and they are real nice. I have been very happy with Polk speakers. MTX amps are the best bang for the buck and I have been running MTX amps forever.

If it was my car the first thing I would do would be to cut the doors and modify them to fit 6 1/2 speakers but im sure you dont want to do that.

Quoting max power figures destroys any and all credibility, IMO ...

Most head units will never come close to their max power figures, for one ... Two, what good is 40 watts @ 40% THD+N ?

That unit only actually produces 4 x 31 watts @ 1% THD+N (CEA-2006 standards), which is still the most I can think of out of a head unit, but certainly no 4 x 60 ...
