I have a challenge for anybody that thinks they are up to it..

I race when I have time, but as has been documented on the forum, a lot of time is wasted in choosing a car for a race and making sure you choose a competative car and not one where the race is over after the 2nd corner.

My challenge is this:

List all the races available on GT4, and next to them, list the perfect car to race on that course. Now I know that people will have different oppinions on best cars etc, but it would give me and others like me a good marker for what car to choose for each race, without wasting 20 minutes before each race loading and re-loading the garage and the race to find a decent match..

I would be very interested to read the results. :) :) :) :sly: 💡

What you're asking for Is a huge part of what my stock car thread is all about;
Finding the most competitive car/race matches.
You'll find a link to the thread in my signature.

Why don't you start it off and then update you're list with suggestions in the thread. I'd be happy to help, I wouldn't be doing that much myself, it'd take too long.

The problem is not so much what is the best car to enter with, but what lineup is best against what car. And best for what anyway - max a-spec points, guaranteed win, good close racing, something else?

Yeah it's tricky to say which car is best on some races - like the 1000 Miles! races in European Hall. You can turn up in a Honda S800, looking for a bit of a challenge, and find yourself matched against a Cobra, E-Type or something else that you will lose sight of 5 metres after the start line and not see again until it laps you, so you quit the race, go and get your own Cobra, and reenter only to find yourself in a field full of 1.6L Alfas.

For some of the other races, it's a no brainer. What colour Triumph Spitfire should I enter in the Triumph Spitfire Cup, for instance?

But in a lot of the races it makes sense, and would have saved me turning up for a Clio championship, chock full of Clio race cars, with me sporting a bog standard '00 Clio V6 on N1 tyres. Talk about taking a dessert spoon to a bazooka fight.

No doubt with the Clio race man. I did the same thing and did it again recently in the Peugeot 206 race. I returned with my '99 used model maxed out horse power , less the permanent ones and all drivetrain, no weight reduction, with medium slicks and easily won my 200 aspecs/race.

OK, i'll take a crack at this one for you.

1000 miles, garanteed win.

I used: '54 Merc SL300 Coupe [Gull Wing Doors], tuned to about 300 bhp and set up to handle, absolutley walks it on A-Spec.

Edit: That is: Weight Reduction Stage 3 [1100Kg], and N/A Tuning Stage 1 [and other bits] up to 295 BHP.

Hope that helps,

Cheers,

Gram.

The A-Spec/Racing Guide FAQ I've been working on for... well pretty much for frickin' ever now :ouch: will have a lot of this info.

I have a racing grid for each race detailing cars used to get max points (in a couple different categories).

In an attempt to make it more generally useful I've added a couple other tidbits.

There's a Downforce list.

There's a list of ALL cars the AI might throw at you for that particular race with their HP and tires. It's about 3/4 done now. I have maybe 10 mfg races left to go and then the Endurances.

Also for each racing grid, I've attempted to offer some ideas on cars that would provide "mid-range" competition. Obviously it's subjective and may not be that great but it's a start.

And, if one of my pet theories proves correct and everyone has the same first lineup from console reset (needs more verification), I'll have those two as well as a few "example" cars with the Aspec points you'd get from that lineup.

You're welcome to preview it and offer suggestions/criticisms you may have.

Where is it? Which thread?

No thread, it's on my computer :D

The intention is to send it to GameFaqs and anyone else who wants it, once I finish the 🤬 thing. OH, I'm sorry, I meant once I finish the :dopey: thing.

You want to take a peak and comment. PM me your mail addy and I'll send it to you.

Warning though: I've still been filling in the race grids. Some of the earlier Aspec sections still need work. I figure once I finish up the Mfg races I can fill these out a bit. Guess I was waiting to see if I could fit the pieces of the A-spec system together better and perform some more experiements on how the points are generated. So, I still have some feedback to incorporate.

Keep it up jdw - this will be one of the all time great GT efforts - you will go down in the GT Annals as either a bloody legend or a completely mad bastard, or perhaps both! : cheers :

Or a bloody insane legend. I've seen his doings, and they're pretty fly! PD should've iconized the man for the effort!
