There are several cars in the game which come in many versions, such as the Lancer Evo and the Subaru Impreza.

Has anyone ever taken the time to do any kind of comparison of the different versions in terms of pros/cons to determine which one may perform or handle better (stock, of course)?

Just wondering...

Some of the cars are just honestly generic filler cars, with a few changes or its a special color scheme and that for some reason warrants it being a whole separate car.

The first 3-4 Evos in the lineup have small hp gains with each one. I think EvoI was like 230hp, and by Evo IV it was 250hp. Other than that most Evos react the same to me, all with AYC. You win a special Evo in a one off color scheme, and it doesn't handle any better than any of the other Evos.

Imprezas are the same deal, but some of them come in coupe form (throwback!) so they are lighter, so technically they handle a bit better, but its the same deal as the Evo.

There is the GTR, with the '07 model, the V Spec, and the Black Edition '12. The '12 version has more hp than the '07 I believe and the V Spec is a lighter model GTR so it handles better.

Miatas are all the same, the PP, the hp, and the weight is all the same, even the price, so handling is exactly the same.

For Skylines, the Nur package has slightly better handling than the other Skylines, but most of them are about the same with a base 276hp.

For the NSX's, the Type R packages are stripped down versions of the base model, so they are lighter and that means it would handle better than the regular old NSX.

Rx-7s are the same deal, but I think the efini model Rx-7s get better handling and a feel than a regular one. (opinionated)

Last gen Supras differ, the RZ is a turbocharged one, and the other is not. More hp, and they are both standard.

Nissan Skyline Coupe and Infiniti G35 handle the same, with the G35 being cooler lol!

Silvias are the same generally throughout (S13-S15) but some are turbocharged while others are not, so its either more hp or not.

Thats all I can think of for now

For the Evos the RS models are the best. They are the lightest of the bunch. Between the VI, VII, and VIII, I found the VII to be the quickest.

For the STIs, avoid the first generation Imprezas. They are crap compared to the Evo. The second and third gen Imprezas are much better. The best ones are the Spec C models.

For the NSXs, the Type Rs are the fastest. Though there is some debate as to whether the old Type R is faster or slower than the '99 S-Zero. The '02 Type R is the fastest NSX.

Even tho there are lots of 'filler' cars, I still love the massive, almost pointless variety of cars available.
Honestly take away the cars like the Corsa and generic miatas and the selection shapes up more like forza, which I got bored of in the end

This.

I love Gran Turismo because of the oddball cars (Like the Midget and all those vintage Japanese econoboxes!) and the almost ridiculous variety of semi-obscure versions of well-known cars. And I don't think having two (or in the case of GT6, thirty) Mazda Roadsters takes anything away from the experience of those not interested in having such variety.

However, I feel like the dealership is cluttered by all those different versions presented separately, and it also feels like there's less of a point in having such variety now that the Used Cars dealership is gone. And I don't understand why there are Semi-Premium (or plain-ugly Standard) versions of a car available as a Premium.

It's because Kaz is on drugs. The current car list makes absolutely no sense, except it gives bragging rights for having 1200 cars. Never mind the fact no one will drive all of them! Cut back the car list, and include only decent, premium cars. Standard cars.... pffft,,what a joke!
