Car will not move after coming to a complete stop

I recently started using my Fanatec CSL Elite in PS4 mode opposed to PC mode. I didn't know there was an update back in March to allow for this on GT Sport. Shortly after this, I noticed that there are times where my car will reset on the track or I just bring it to a complete stop, and the car will not move. Not sure if it's related to the racing wheel or not. The car revs, but no movement happens. Acts like it was in neutral. Its definitely in gear, but nothing. Ultimately you have to quit the race. Any one else having this problem or know a cause/fix? Thanks.

I have something like this happen when using my G29. It only happens in manual transmission N class cars, as far as I can remember.

It's as if the game is replicating the engine cutting out, so I press the clutch pedal, rev the engine, and the car moves again.

Without clutching, the car revs like it's stuck in neutral, even though the on-screen display says that I'm in whatever gear that I've chosen, but the car behaves like it's not in gear.

I'm surprised more people aren't complaining about this.

I have the same problem on GT Sport using a G29 with a load cell modification for the brake, but no shifter. Just using the paddle shifters. The bug seems to only happen with certain cars and/or on certain tracks. Sometimes the problem occurs at the rolling race start leaving you coasting as the rest of the field races away, other times it happens only after the car comes to a complete stop. Either way, all on-screen indications of brake pedal, accelerator pedal, and gear selection appear normal. The gear indicator will shift up and down and the engine will rev, but it's as if the transmission is stuck in neutral or the clutch is stuck in.

If the problem is with the G29, it stands to reason that it would manifest itself with all cars and tracks. However, that is not the case. For instance, in the GT League races I can't complete any of the Mercedes AMG Gran Prix races due to this bug. And in the Mission Challenges, the bug happens only on Stage 6-6, the Nissan VGT Ground Combat fighter on Tokyo Expressway. It's worth mentioning that the handheld DualShock controllers still work fine in the aforementioned scenarios.

I've had the bug occur with other random cars after a crash brought me to a complete stop, but haven't kept a detailed list of those. Kind of a pisser if it happens on the last lap of a long race and you have to restart the race. Have also tried running the G29 through a Collective Minds DriveHub, but no change.

If I had to guess, I'd say it's a coding problem with the G29 that for whatever reason only pops up in certain scenarios.

The cars in this game have a torque converter of sorts, if you don’t hit the gas hard enough from a dead stop, the car just slips into neutral and revs up, but the gears don’t engage. Try hitting the gas a little harder next time. 👍

Hmm, thank you for the advice, but not sure it applies to this bug.

The gas pedal is already on the floor at the beginning of a rolling start, which I'd think would bypass the torque converter solution. In the scenario where the the bug shows up after the car completely stops, you can slam the gas pedal to the floor as hard as you like, all day long, and nothing happens other than engine revving. Lastly, the Dualshock controllers still work without having to employ the technique you suggest, so I humbly submit this fact puts the last nail in the coffin of the "torque converter" theory. Sorry.

But keep the suggestions coming, please! Thanks.

...Forgot to add...

When I first experienced this bug it was in the Mission Challenge / Stage 6-6 Nissan VGT, which has a rolling start. The first few occurrences, I was able to clear the bug a by bringing the car to a complete stop and mashing the brake pedal (with load cell mod) as hard as I could a few times. This seemed to allow the car to go back into gear and drive normally afterward. However, the delay it caused has prevented me from attaining better than a silver finish.

Now, this technique no longer seems to work, and the bug has showed up on other vehicles. Grrrr!

Let me double check the ABS light... Thanks.

Sounds like your brake pedal is a bit sticky.

Well, I first suspected hardware issues like a sticky brake as well. Although I believe this explanation has been thoroughly vetted as improbably due to the fact that it ONLY occurs with certain cars. A bonafide hardware issue such as a sticky brake should manifest itself across the entire inventory of cars in my garage or cars supplied in various mission challenges, no?

That's not to say the hardware isn't playing a role, but it seems to behave a lot more like a coding issue between Gran Turismo Sport and the G29, and not a glitch with the actual gas, brake, clutch, or shifter hardware of the G29.

Thanks for the input.

Could you provide a video of it happening?

And what about the ABS light? If that is on, you have a sticky brake pedal.

It doesn't happen all the time, as sometimes it will calibrate fine. Mine does it occasionally, and all I do to fix it is to press it fully on and off a few times before I get control.

I see great minds think alike. I'm going to make a video and try to get it posted today. Standby!

Also worth mentioning is that it happens even if you have an automatic transmission selected. Have also tried changing various other options for the transmission, but to no avail. (Although you aren't allowed change many of the parameters on supplied cars like the Nissan VGT.)

Okay peeps, just did a very simple video illustrating the bug issue. Take a look and tell me what I'm doing wrong.

Here's the link;

Thanks.

Yeah, that looks like a sticky brake pedal. I get that from time to time with my G29. When mine sticks on permanently like that, it is because the potentiometer has "clicked" into a slightly different rotation in the housing. Opening up the pedal case and twisting it back puts it back to normal.

Thank you for the reply. But once again, if it is indeed a sticky brake pedal, why does it only happen with this stage? I wholeheartedly appreciate the responses, but let's face it, it's not a brake pedal issue. If it were, it would definitely show up elsewhere in the game.

Coding, coding, coding. That's my "relatively" informed opinion.

Thanks.

Nonetheless, the bar indicating your braking strength is showing that your brake pedal is registering an input:

And your ABS light is on.

You have a brake pedal issue, whether you want to accept it or not.

Thank you, but if it truly is a brake pedal issue, then that still fails to explain why it only occurs with certain cars/events, and yet continues to perform perfectly with other cars/events every single time. (Every single time!) As was previously covered in both this thread and on the video, the ABS light is also illuminated in many cars that have no problem at all, so possibly not really an indicator of the bug we're discussing.

Maybe I am in denial, but I feel perfectly willing to accept any plausible explanation as long as that explanation comports with the observations, and the observations make it abundantly clear that the brake pedal simply is not the progenitor of this bug. A little critical observation goes a long way, sir, "whether you want to accept it or not."

With that said, there may be issues with the PD coding and the Ricmotech load cell modification in my G29 brake that, for whatever reason, doesn't play well with certain cars/stages.

I would simply add that; I respectfully request that future contributors to this thread please do their homework or be informed of this issue before offering an obviously uninformed solution. It only creates confusion.

Thanks, all.

Your original post gives the clue as to why this is a brake pedal issue. Hear me out, I am informed on this.

For instance, in the GT League races I can't complete any of the Mercedes AMG Gran Prix races due to this bug.

The in game Hamilton F1 car has a feature where any brake input whatsoever will completely override the throttle. This is actually a safety feature in F1 cars although they are able to set how sensitive it is, while we're stuck with 0.1% brakes = no throttle. There have been people in this forum who have had the same issue and it was solved by sorting out sticking brake pedals.

As this feature exists for one car it wouldn't be surprising to see it in other cars too, which is why it only happens to you in certain cars and events.

If this was a general coding issue with G29's then the problem would be much (much) more widespread and reported. G29's are one of the most popular wheels. I have one myself and don't have this issue with these events.

If you still don't believe the problem is with your brake pedal you can troublehoot it yourself. Take the pedal apart, give everything a good clean and remove the Ricomotech mod replacing it with the standard spring and see if that solves the issue. If it does, you've isolated where the problem is 👍

I hope that helps.

Can you drive the Nissan VGT fine on other tracks, and does the ABS light indicate on cars that doesn’t appear to be affected by this bug?

I just tried the Nissan VGT using the DS4 and when using L2 and L3 buttons if I slightly drag the brake there's no throttle input no matter what the throttle reads, just how @watto79 explained it worked for the Hamilton F1. As soon as I release the brake the throttle works. I'd say @watto79 is spot on.

the ABS light is also illuminated in many cars that have no problem at all,
If the ABS light is illuminated in red, that means you are braking. If you're not touching the brake pedal at that point, it means your brake pedal is sticking.

With that said, there may be issues with the PD coding and the Ricmotech load cell modification in my G29 brake that, for whatever reason, doesn't play well with certain cars/stages.
If that were the case there would be hundreds of people affected, not just you.

Maybe I am in denial, but I feel perfectly willing to accept any plausible explanation
But you are not willing to accept the correct explanation? I'll admit I didn't give reasons like @watto79 has but I believe I'm still correct.

I would simply add that; I respectfully request that future contributors to this thread please do their homework or be informed of this issue before offering an obviously uninformed solution. It only creates confusion.

Ahhhhh, okay. Now I finally see where you guys are coming from; Tried playing around between the DS4 and the G29, and sure enough when using the DS4, the ABS light is extinguished and everything is normal. The second I even touch the gas pedal on the G29 (without even going near the brake pedal) the ABS light immediately illuminates and creates the bug (even though other vehicles drive fine with the ABS light on.) Then going back to the DS4, the second I hit the gas button the ABS light goes out and everything is fine again.

I just got off the phone with the Ricmotech rep, and he said others have had this issue. He suggested the problem was due to an update to GT Sport that somehow affected the dead zone of the load cell due to the way it's mounted in the G29 brake housing. His solution was to remove the load cell and spring, and cut maybe one loop off of the spring to shorten it slightly and restore the dead zone capability of the load cell. Fingers crossed.

Thanks for your help, everyone. Wish me luck!

Success! I removed the spring that came with the load cell kit, and cut off about 1/8" from the it. There is still plenty of spring left to hold the brake pedal solidly, and since it's a load cell doing the work, there's no change in pedal feel.

Did a quick ops check and everything is working perfectly. Thanks for all the info from everyone.

Oddly - my T-LCM has this issue (ABS light on and the car won’t go once it has stopped) and the only way to make it work is to have it plugged into my laptop with the calibration software open. Works just fine then.

My answer for this for people who have the same problem as our, in my case, I just fixed it by "screwed up" my wheelbased. In my case, the problem that why pedals' gas and brake or your car couldn't move forward because the plug inside wheelbased which is pluged in directly from pedals to wheelbased is being unpluged or almost losing, pluging inside wheelbased, the solution is, you have to screw it down to see plugs wire inside your based and connect in completely again and your problem, probably be gone in my case. I used to tjink it was a bug from a game previously but when I did this method. The problem disappeared and you can enjoy your simrace again. But if it don't fix again I hope you will find a better way to finally fix your problem guys.
