Just got a new laptop today for work...being time to upgrade my comp. Much to my surprise the top of the lid is greatly comprised of carbon fiber.

Not sure if I should surf the net or hop on it and try to drive it down the street....

Specs:
Intel Core 2 Duo 2.0 ghz, 667mhz FSB, 4mb
15.4 WSXGA Wide TFT
ATI 1600x 512mb (for stunning spreadsheet graphs)
160gb SATA
2GB DDR2
Bluetooth 2.0 w/ VOIP
Built in 1.3MP Webcam on lid.

Just got it registered...., and have a lot to setup on it before I can really see how it performs...but so far so good.

oooooooooooo crazy man. i got to say, thats some pretty good performance for a laptop. and that carbon fiber lid, CRAZY!!!! 👍

I don't see the point in a carbon fibre lid for a laptop.

I really don't either..but it's cool to say I've got one. ;)

Now if the whole case was carbon fiber, I could maybe see some advantages if you throw your laptop around alot...

*shruggs*

I think you'll find that Acers are excelent laptops. We resell them at Fusion, and I personally have one as well. All of our customers are happy with theirs, and mind still runs strong.

The performance on that particular model is top notch as well. Carbon fiber looks nice too.

Sony's SZ series notebooks are made out of CF. They're really pricey though.

And you didn't get the Blu-Ray version :grumpy:

This is actually my second Acer. The first one being a TravelMate 8100 which is still a great machine, but it's just time to pass it down to the next user. I've been blessed with getting all the new gear at work and handing down all my old stuff to other users. ;)

I've had nothing but a good experience with Acer.

And yes, no Blu-Ray. I'll be getting that tomorrow at Gamestop. (yeah right...)

You're acting surprised Pako, but we all know that "Carbon fibre lid" was top of your list of requirements :p I heard that it has a similar effect to a carbon fibre bonnet: saves weight, makes the laptop faster..

Have to say it looks mucho sweetness though, and not just the laptop but the specs too 👍

I love that you've 512MB 1600x for work. As you said, that's some serious spreadsheets! Or is there something you're not telling us, like you slack off when no one's looking and play Counter Strike :D

Excel graphs need some serious rendering power, an 8800GTX barely copes, it's gonna kill that poor 1600x...

Well not only spreadsheets, but the power point presentations are murder on the video card. ;)

I think I need a nice little HD DLP projector to go with it.....you know, for more of those PP Presentations.

Haha, sweet!

The high end acers are pretty sweet - my mum has a low end one, and it's very reliable (if slow). That does look rediculously nice. Maybe it goes alongside the Ferrari stuff they've been doing.

I know these threads suck without pics, so here we go.

What's up with that totally retarded curve in the keyboard?

They're trying to be cool....

I use a docking station (port replicator basically) so I use an external mouse and keyboard and a second screen at work.

Very rarely do I ever use just the stock keyboard/screen by itself.

The curve really doesn't hinder or enhance the typing, all laptop keyboards suck in my opinion. ;)

I have an Acer with the same keyboard. I've found it to be by far the most comfortable laptop keyboard to type on. Not to mention, the action is very good.

The curve does serve a purpose: Imagine you're sitting in a chair with the laptop, uh, on your lap, and you're typing. Naturally, your wrists will land on the plastic next to the touchpad, but will your arms be at an angle or straight forward? It doesn't change the feel in a negative way at all, although it does take some getting used to. However, ever since I got used to mine, every other laptop keyboard just doesn't feel.. As good. (:

Love the CF, Pako.

Hah, that laptop is probably better than my computer, performance wise. I might need a new computer, I guess.

Is that wallpaper in the background of the first picture?

Maybe?!?! ;)

If I used the keyboard more, I might have a valid opinion of it. Thanks for the insight!

You should compare it to a non-carbon fiber model to see if it actually goes faster

This is the latest thing with laptops. Sony started (as far as I know) it with their TX series. The idea is to get the weight down. How much does yours weigh?
