After finishing the Mistral 78 lapper (and winning a black XJ220) I couldn't help but notice my Esperante GTR-1 wasn't half as 'dirty' as my Viper GTSR Concept after I finished the PD Cup's Trial Mountain 20 lapper. Why?
I grant you Côte D' Azur isn't a very polluted place, but could such a detail have been programmed into this fantastic game?

Also, I think I might have noticed some of my cars, that have been sitting in the garage, losing their shine gradually as days in the game go on, makes me wonder if cars collect 'virtual dust' by not using them. Though perhaps this is just me.
Any comments?

In case you're wondering, yes I have plenty of time on my hands. Still, I find this a tad intriguing.

It does seem that cars vary in how they get dirty... for example, buy a TVR Speed 6 in that vomit orange/green color. Take it out for a few races, then go to the car wash. Notice how yucky it gets in just a few races? (Same goes for the Speed 12 in the same color). You must have pretty good eyes though to spot it on other cars, because I almost never notice it otherwise. :)

I never really take the time to notice this kind of stuff, but you're observations do interest me. I have cars that have been sitting in my garage for a while too, so they may be dirty from collecting dust. I'll have to check it out, and see if some cars get dirtier than others, and if they get dirty if they are not used for a while.

i noticed something similar to that as well. when i first started to play GT3, i did a few beginner races then went off to complete the rally section of the game. and i bought a subaru imprezza 22tb or something like that and it had less hp than the normal older model imprezza sedan. but after i completed it and went on to finish up the beginner and amateur, i noticed that the hp went up (after doing the rally i didnt touch the car at all) and also lately ive been using the sprinter and i noticed that loses its luster quick. and one last thing, is it just my crappy old tv or does it seem like on some cars u need to wash it a couple times to make it look fresh and new again?

try cleaning the screen of your tv wil ;p

I notice it on replays tho... compare your unwashed POS to the competition and you will notice how the AI shine.... thank god they do, cause they dont shine in any other way :p

my cars never get dirty, i never cut or let the car hit walls or go into the dirt. thanx to drifting

Heh, most true. :D

Black cars do seem to lose their shine faster actually, that black Jaguar I mentioned before gets dirty pretty fast, I still like the way it handles though.

I don't think racing any certain track (cept rally), or even going in the grass/dirt in a (road) race makes your car more dirty than in another situation. And black cars in real life lose their shine and seem to get dirty faster (i know someone who owns a black car - 1 day its squeaky clean - next day it's not nearly). However, I do think that raly races get your car dirty faster, though I haven't observed this since I don't rally race (much). The level of "dirtiness" related to mileage w/o washing might differ from car to car and definitely varies upon color, I raced the Super Speedway 150 Mile with the Escudo (which I washed prior to the race), and it looked the same as it did before I statred. I think ving is right about cars collecting dust as the days go on, it's probably the TV. Of course, the whole "dirty car because of sitting around" thing also depends on perception, maybe because youpay more attention to a car that you use and that one forgets the "shine" of a car that they don't. That's just what I believe is the case.

They get dirty if you stay on the track or not, and yes black cars do look dirty quicker, the dirt shows up more on them.

my cars dont get dirty cause i dont race em :p
