Cars Have No Power Online

Most of my cars around the 450PP-550PP have lost all their power when racing online. They were fine before & i've had no trouble with them at all ever since i first bought GT5.
Some are sluggish on start & others have barely any acceleration & they all stop accelerating after the 120-130mph mark.
The same thing happens in every room i enter & even in my own rooms, even with my own race settings. I'm getting left so far behind it's impossible to race.
It's nothing to do with my driving skills or having a bad day etc. Even much slower cars are flying past me. Other drivers can afford to make several spins before catching me up again & easily passing.
Offline these cars are fine & have no problems at all.

Is anyone else having these problems or have any help so i can solve these issues?

Thanks a lot.

I think what you're expecting is that all cars are as slow as the ones in the offline game. Online, people tune their suspension and transmission to out-accelerate and out-corner everyone else so it is extremely competitive. Your cars only seem slower because other cars are faster, when you're going the same speed as you were in offline.

Aside from that, I've never heard of anyone losing actual performance while online. The physics of the tracks are different, mainly grip on accel & cornering, but its still very similar to normal.

Maybe double check you don't hwve boost on? Might speed up others behind you so they pass you more? Other than that I'm not sure, haven't come across this problem myself

Thanks for the replies but this isn't the reason. My cars are fully tuned & i had no trouble winning races online a couple of weeks ago. Most have a top speed of around the 190-200mph mark but they're struggling to hit 130mph. The acceleration is just not there.

Could it be an internet connection problem? I have 20meg broadband & have no trouble with it or while playing other games.

If boost was on, and he was falling behind, it would speed him up instead of slow him down.

Online lag would cause the other cars to seem jumpy and slide sideways or move forward and backward erratically. Is your transmission set too low in top speed so you hit rev-limiter early or is it that you're in gear but the RPMs won't climb? Shifting too early? I can't think of any reason why it would solely do this online. Maybe traction control is too high and low-grip tires? I don't have a clue.

Setups, internet lag, many factors may make other cars faster etc. Or the other drivers could just be very good.

I use no aids except for ABS set to 1 or 2 depending on the car. I set my transmission up using Praiano's guide. Could this be the problem?
Yes. On most cars between 450PP & 550PP in 3rd, 4th & 5th gear the RPM's are flat & struggle to climb.
But as i said they worked fine before & are fine offline.

@ Master_Shake.... Just found your Transmission Guide so gonna have a read through then have a play with some of my cars to see if i can fix the problem.

Thanks.

Are you on a different setup sheet??

It's a guide for drag racing, but the principals are essentially the same. Just set the top speed in the top right corner around 15-20mph above target top speed for the track, and you'll be golden.

I use A, B & C set up's all set for different PP races. Example 450PP, 475PP & 500PP. All set ups have the same problem.
I'm always on the correct set up. For example 500PP set up for 500PP race.

Will give it a read through & try making some adjustments. Maybe Praiano's guide doesn't suit all cars.

I can assure you that you will gain maximum acceleration following this setup. The suspension is a whole different ballgame, however, and I don't have nearly as much circuit experience as others.

Suspension & LSD is no problem as i've been tuning since GT1. I used to have my own way of tune transmissions but it took too long so used Praiano's guide as it was quick & easy to do.

Once you understand the method of flipping the transmission, it will be the easiest method you've ever used. Takes literally 2 minutes to reset the transmission for a different track.

That's what i need. A nice quick & easy method. Thanks for the help mate.

I'm not sure if you've sorted out your problem yet but if not you might check the connnections on your wheel (if you use one). A loose connection can do odd things.

I had a friend that had something stuck under his accelerator pedal that kept him from going fast.

Also, how many miles do these cars have on them? You need to do an oil change when you start losing horsepower. Once a car reaches a certain amount of miles it starts losing permanent hp that you can never regain. For a Nascar it is about 6000 miles.

I don't use a wheel. Just a controller. Most of the cars i have been racing all have around 500-1000 miles on them.

Had the same problem at first and realised it was me that was slow. Not the cars.

-First you can't compare online with offline. I'm not sure if your talking about the behavior of the car or laptime or AI vs real people but best way to find out is by comparing lap time online vs offline.
-Some users will delete cache to improve their online experience. I rarely do it to b honest, prefer to internet sync my clock once or twice a week.
-Second, people out there have sick tunes, no wonder theres over 100 users watching the tuning section of the board at any given time, Theres so many factors in pp limit race, not just break-in engine. Some use extra old oil to gain few HP at certain PP limit.
-Not everycar have the same powerband, not sure if its right term but you dont wanna be Mr Rev Limiter. Some car need to switch gear way before red and some way after for optimal performance. It all depends on tune and part. Thats when a different kind of turbo can fit a better driving style in the game.

So my answer if you wanna know if its your connection.
Sync your clock via Internet
Clear your cache in option in the game
And do Shuffle race, you can download replay and look the folks who's using the same ride and compare.

If the problem is as severe as you say OP and widespread among cars, and you were racing recently with no problems, then my vote is going to be an accelerator or brake issue. Take a car online, floor it and make sure the accelerator gauge on the screen goes to the top and also that the brake is not slightly engaged at any point, without you touching the brakes.

Problems seem to be sorted although i haven't had chance to test with all the cars i had the problems with yet. I don't know whether something changed after the last update or not because as i said they were fine a few weeks back. On some of my cars the gear ratio's was the problem. The way i had them set was causing me to lose RPM in 3rd, 4th & 5th gear. I wasn't having any trouble with cars of 550PP & higher. Maybe it's because they have more horsepower?
Anyway i had a good read through Master_Shake's post about transmissions & have even managed to improve on a couple of tracks by up to half a second.

Thanks for all the replies & a big thanks to Master_Shake for posting the very useful info on transmission set-ups. It was a big help.

Not every 500pp, 550pp or 600pp tune will be fast... it depends on the car.

The fastest 550pp cars are the Lexus LFA, Audi R8 FSI (slower model), M3 CSL, Any Skyline and the NSX type-r.

For 500pp the elise wins on short circuits, but there are faster cars such as the M3 CSL and MX-5.

Even though it was designed for a different purpose, I'm glad it was helpful for you. Good luck with your online adventures. :)
