Cars in General General Discussion Thread?

Jordan, would it be possible (or viable) to have a "general discussion" thread in the Cars in General forum (a la GT4 G.D.)?

I ask this because many times I have wanted to voice my opinion about a particular car, but there has not been any thread for such comments.

It would basically be a clone of the GT4 G.D thread but for cars in general - for stuff like:

I like the M6
micras are kewl
stfu - micras... pfft, fiat 500s rock
The "new" STi is fugly.
how fast is a 800hp skyline?
The new M3 will be fast.
i lik rice lolz

I hope it won't be for that kind of discussion, I only speak English and Spanish, I'm not that mulitlingual. Why don't you make one and see if a mod stickies it. I don't see any harm in a general car chat thread.

You're referring to the n00bish comments that'll probably pop up a couple of times, I presume? I only speak English, so we're basically in the same boat

Anyway, I want to see if it gets a green light, first.

I think it is a good idea, but not for posts like that. Even the GT4 Forum's discussion thread isn't that bad.

But, there is a problem. Like with a lot of car threads lately, it may turn into a very heated discussion thread on something specific and won't really be a general chat thread anymore, unless you make a seperate thread on the subject all the time.

I don't know, but it seems like a good idea that might work.

What good is a general discussion thread if it isn't allowed to shift its focus from topic to topic?

Maybe I'm misconstruing the point of a general discussion thread on this website (I never visit any of them), but I would think that a thread that talks about drifting for a few days, then moves to Toyota for a few days, and then reliability for a few days, etc....would be more useful and more worthwhile than a thread where person A says, "I like drifting," person B says, "I like Toyotas," person C says, "I like reliable cars," and then person D says something else irrelevant.

What I mean is of course it can have discussions, I'm not complaining about that, but sometimes the discussion is so intense you get put off from posting anything in that thread anymore. If it moves from subject to subject every few days or so, that'll be fine because the discussions shouldn't be that intense.

But that's just me, I just dislike very focused discussions, even more so in a "gerneral discussion" thread, but other people will have a completely different opinion.

I think any general discussion style thread runs the risk of either going too far off topic or starts conversations on topics that treads on the feet of other already well-discused and establised threads. It would end up as a 'conversation' thread and would just give the mods a major head ache.
