how come some cars loose horsepower throughout racing? my camaro race car has lost 6, my suby impreza has lost 11, but my integra type r has gained 12 throughout racing. is there any way i can regain that horsepower, or is it gone for ever? i change the oil before it gets brown and i wash it at the same time too.

If you go to the dealership and buy a car, you can gain hp by changing the oil. Then, you gain more hp by driving and breaking in the engine. Once the engine's broken in, it will start to lose hp as you drive it more and more and the engine wears out. If you do the port polish or full balance upgrades, it effectively sets the odometer back to broken-in, not worn out. If the car's a prize car, it comes already broken in, but needing an oil change.

There's a lot of stuff on this topic in a thread called "everything you ever wanted to know about oil" or something like that. Do a search for oil and you should get a better answer.

It will stop breaking down eventually. The amount of horsepower you lose is porportional to the maximum of the car. Overall it is a huge amount.

so if i have a car i really like and the engine's hp drops a lot and i want it back, i have to buy a new one? my impreza only has 55 miles on it and its already loosing out

Check the link Platypus posted...

Basically any purchased car has to endure a break-in period of 186 miles (or 300km) before it's running at peak efficiency (change the oil too, obviously). Any prize car comes already broken-in.

If your Impreza has only 55 miles showing, it's still in the break-in phase. Trust me.

Hi! When you "get in" your impreza, what's the HP?
Did you add any upgrades, turbo/muffler/engine work etc...? You can always buy an oil change @ "GT auto" and that will replenish the HP to it's fullest. 👍

it has every mod, and it was at 549 hp, but now its 542. both the garage and setup hp ratings are the same with it. i change the oil after about 30 or 40 laps

not again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! please

I think it's because you need to change your oil

I usually change my oil before I drive the car and I don't lose horsepower

i bought the stage 2 NA upgrade, it lost 3 hp instantly, but it has stayed at 754 for 200 miles now
