Well, the title says it all. This is about cars that are incredible, but needed more horsepower. Yep, I'm talking about all you guys and gals (haven't encoutnred one yet) that are all about the HP. My two candidates? I'll start with:

(1) the latest Celica
As racy as it looks, it is a bit of a shame that you get less than 200 hp, if I am not mistaken on the amount of horsepower. I think that if Toyota wanted to make its racy car a race car, they would need some more power. At least enough to compare with the 200hp Acura RSX (here in America).

(2) the Ferrari 360 Modena
This car has sweet looks. To me, it is an affordable Ferrari. If there were low-cost techniques, the car would probably cost lesser than it does. For the price of an Aston Martin DB7 (like in Gran Turismo), you get a sweet car for the weekends, the race track, or my favorite, the Ferrari Challenge. Being a Houston native, I remember watching on Speed Channel a Ferrari Challenge race at Watkins Glen. We got some good drivers for Ferrari of Houston. Speed should show Ferrari Challenge more often. Those cars are BEAUTIFUL. But maybe a few more HPs, and it may be able to challenge the serious muscle cars. I don't know if it can make a Viper shake in its boots with an HP increase, but it would be interesting...

You all want to give this topic a try? Go ahead.

Actually, they're about lineball in straightline and top end performance.

:) For me almost all cars don't have enough power, especially the car that I am driving now.:(

We won't get enough power....unless its a 7000hp V8 dragster engine.:trouble:

You will not be going anywhere once your engine breaks after the insane wear on it.

the Acura NSX for sure, that thing should have at least 500hp, to match its looks

A buddy of mine has a 4 cycl. S-10 and that is the most underpowered truck I've ever been in. It should have been at least a 160-170hp in it.

For city driving the S2000 blows but for the track I could see where it would do well.

Hmm.. I vote for the Smart roadster. It's got 80 hp or something like that from it's tiny 3banger.

Lotus Elise. They only gave it a 1.8l engine. It doesn't need anymore to get it going, but it would be nice to have a small V6 in it.

Umm... The S2000 has 240hp... how can you say it needs more HP?? Plus the car is so much fun to drive... 9000rpm for gods sake

I wonder how the new Mazdaspeed Miata will work out. Miatas are pretty much the car to autocross because they're relatively cheap, and even though they only have 140hp or so, they handle like a dream. Besting WRXs, turbocharged DSMs, Preludes, IS300 etc. (No domestics to compare to, sorry! I usually only find Corvettes and SVT Cobras there, and they're higher than the Miata).

The Mazdaspeed Miata has a turbocharger on it giving it a slight boost (No pun intended, but funny none the less, right?) in horsepower up to 175 (It doesn't give any torque figures). Mazda says that the turbo is supposed to add more mid-range grunt, not total speed. It also comes with a stiffer suspension, 17-inch wheels, and a six speed manual.

So hopefully the Miata will still stay the handling beast it is with thirty more horses under the hood, without sacraficing it's wonderful handling.

On the track the S2000 need more power and torque in my opinion. The S2000 is light and torqueless with more power and torque im sure the S2000 would be a way better car and im sure alot of people would agree that the S2000 need more torque/power. Actually the 2004 S2000 has like 8500 rpm or something along that line they decrease the RPM to get alittle bit more torque.

One more thing on your sig you have too much lines. Max of 6 so i suggest you change it.

Oh yeah with the price of it, you can get a 350z (287hp), LanEvo 8(271hp) and STi (300hp) compare to those the S2000 is underpowered. I really love the car tho. Great handling due to the lightweight car. Its really a good car IMHO.

The S2000 and 350Z are dead even performance wise, it's got plenty of horsepower.

On the 1/4 yes on highway rolls im sure the 350z would beat the S2000. My cuz has a black 350z and man its amazing!

svt contour gets my vote
and most definately the NSX

IS300 I guess. NSX for sure, although i dont think it needs some massive ungodly number like 550. 350 would do fine. But I still say the the IS430 will lose a lot of its feel because of the massive engine upfront.

And why the elise? It's straightline acceleration is about as good as a Corvette....and that's impressive, not to mention the large aftermarket available to the Celica engine.

I'd still rather see them sell a turbo IS300, but I suppose an IS430 is cool too. I just think it's going to throw off the balance of the car with a v8. Oh well.

the new BMW M3, fast none the less but in order to compete with its rivals Porsche and the Audi S4 its gonna need a little more umph than 333hp. maybe BMW will get some balls and build a 450hp M3, by by Audi and Wheres that 911?

Although it's well and good saying that this and that could have done with more power, look at the Jaguar XKR.

Everyone was banging on and on and on about the Jaguar XK8 needing more power. So Jaguar strapped on a supercharger and gave it 400hp. Result - an overpowered car. The chassis didn't respond well to the extra power and the car became tricky to drive in the dry, never mind the wet so common in these Isles...

And I'm surprised that bmwm3guy didn't say "the Mazda MX-3", considering he's driving an engine-transplanted one with 200hp instead of 110... :D

Isn't the suspension like 12+ years old on that crapper? Mind you it's the same with the Old DB7, thank got they phased the DB7 out. Mind you I don't have much respect for either marque anymore.

That was half the problem. The suspension technology was well over 20 years old. The DB7 on the other hand coped with up to 450hp (the DB7 GT).

Jaguar have gone a bit crappy lately, nothing like the XJS... But the Vanquish is my current lottery-squeeze, the new V8 Vantage looks cracking and DB9? New pants please...

When I read this thread title the very first car that came to mind for me was also the Celica.

The new XJ is nice, the X-Type is a rebadged mondeo with AWD, the S-Type is some rebadged american car, the XK is uh nothing special. If only they got around to producing that XKRRR with an actual manual gearbox.

The AM V8 and the DB9 are nice, but they just don't interest me that much.

i'd say the mazda rx8 needs a bit more horsepower, especially the automatic and the it definitely needs more torque than 161.

The Geo tracker (or any Geo for that matter....)

The Chrystler Crossfire (I was hoping for a HEMI)

The Plymouth Prowler (Would a Viper 10 really have been so hard to put in? LOL... But a V-8 would have been nice....)

The Honda Goldwing (Ok so its a Motorcycle that has alot of power as is but it could handle so much more... Same goes for the Honda Valkayre Rune)
