Cars which come alive with minor tuning/mods?

I bought the F40 yesterday and wasn't getting on with it at all....until I put in a new transmission and lowered the top end to 205. It seemed to transform it into a new car, the stock gearing was just stupid as I barely got out of 3rd on a lot of tracks. I'll also try sports softs tonight and see what happens.

Any recommendations for cars to take a 2nd look at with minor tuning?
 
The Ferrari 512bb will bite your head off in stock form. Racing tires make it soooooo much better.

Maybe if I bought an expensive wheel and used that instead of the dualshock, it would get a bit easier to drive.

Negative, even with a G27 it's still a bastard to keep straight.
 
The 512BB is so bad under braking. ABS is a must for it.

You mean to say that racing tires hide the problem. Compared to toher cars with better handling it should still suck if the competition is on the same tires.
