Caterham Cup Race 5
Caterham Seven Fire Blade '02 at Deep Forest Raceway

[Hopefully there will be a nice picture here by the end of the week.]

Race Specifics

  • Arcade Mode Time Trial - hotlap
  • Power: 0% (158 hp)
  • Weight: -10% (332 kg)
  • Tire Type: N3
  • Driving aids and transmission mode are open.
  • Standard OLR cleanliness rules apply: Two wheels must be in contact with the track at all times; all asphalt areas are part of the track; rumble strips are part of the track; no contact with walls allowed at any time. Concrete and cobblestone areas, as well as hard green "grasscrete" sections, are not part of the track. The only exception is in the last tunnel on the far right, where there are completely flat cobblestones: that is track.
  • Please PM me your final time by Tuesday May 26 by 11:59 pm GMT (world clock).

Series General Rules
  • Discussion of times in the race thread during the week are limited to split times (T1, T2). Final times are not to be discussed and must be submitted to me by PM before the week's deadline.
  • Please save your best lap replay in case I request proof. Some form of proof, a photo at minimum, will be required of the winner. I may request proof of any suspicious times, which may include requiring a video or .max file. Posting video or .max replays is encouraged of all participants should they wish to do so.
  • Each race will award points towards the overall championship standings to all who submit a clean lap/race time, with the winner receiving 15 points, second place 12, third place 10, and fourth on down each separated by 1 point (9, 8, 7, etc.). No points will be awarded to a non-submitting driver. You do not have to announce your participation in the championship beforehand: anyone may participate in a race and be counted into the championship points, even if you do not plan on running all the races; similarly, there is no obligation to participate in every race. The driver with the most points at the end of the six races will win the championship.

Deep Forest is a somewhat bumpy track, but it has plenty of banked turns to help cars negotiate the correct line. It is very satisfying to fly perfectly through those corners, but linking all of them in one lap should prove quite a challenge. There are two things I should point out: one, that concrete, cobblestone, and grasscrete are not track (meaning you have to take the long way around the turn before the first tunnel, and be careful in the last turn). Two, you will not be able to set the best lap possible on lap one of a session unless you turn around and drive all the way back to near the second tunnel, because the initial placement of the car is not nearly far back enough to allow you to reach the speed at which you're capable of negotiating the last corner. Hopefully, though, the combo is fun enough that you won't be restarting all the time. Have fun! :)

I put in a few laps, just for the heck of it. It's been a while since I played GT4 or any track not in GT5p. Quite a bit of fun this car, unlike anything I've driven before, ever. 👍

T1: 29.591
T2: 1'02.984

Small improvement (.6s at finish line):

T1: 29.482
T2: 1'02.192

I see at least .5s in T1, but T2 is about as good as it gets (for me). Quite a workout btw, this combo.

Considering the post count of this thread, I'm pleasantly surprised at the turnout, which is the biggest so far. 👍 There are some surprisingly close results, too, especially the battle for third place! I had quite a bit of fun this week, although I got the sense that this combo wasn't as fun for people overall. :indiff: I suppose smoother tracks are the way to go, then, in terms of popularity, although it's already a bit too late to change that for the last race of the series. :scared: Anyway, I hope you all had fun, and I hope you will at Nürburgring, too. :)

I had forgotten how much I enjoyed this track :)

I don't know if raz's lap was with the splits posted, but if that is the case he would have been biting his nails when it had been 1 on 1 and closing in on me on the last sector. Brrr, close indeed. :scared:

In fact, he did improve his splits before the deadline and included them in his submission - his T2 was 1'02.085, so you must have had a good last sector to inch in front by the finish line. 👍
