Race Specifics

  • Arcade Mode Time Trial - hotlap
  • Power: 0% (158 hp)
  • Weight: -10% (332 kg)
  • Tire Type: N3
  • Driving aids and transmission mode are open.
  • Standard OLR cleanliness rules apply: Two wheels must be in contact with the track at all times; all hard surfaces are part of the track; no contact with walls allowed at any time.
  • Please PM me your final time by Tuesday June 2 by 11:59 pm GMT (world clock).

Series General Rules
  • Discussion of times in the race thread during the week are limited to split times (T3, T5, and T8 recommended). Final times are not to be discussed and must be submitted to me by PM before the week's deadline.
  • Please save your best lap replay in case I request proof. Some form of proof, a photo at minimum, will be required of the winner. I may request proof of any suspicious times, which may include requiring a video or .max file. Posting video or .max replays is encouraged of all participants should they wish to do so.
  • Each race will award points towards the overall championship standings to all who submit a clean lap/race time, with the winner receiving 15 points, second place 12, third place 10, and fourth on down each separated by 1 point (9, 8, 7, etc.). No points will be awarded to a non-submitting driver. You do not have to announce your participation in the championship beforehand: anyone may participate in a race and be counted into the championship points, even if you do not plan on running all the races; similarly, there is no obligation to participate in every race. The driver with the most points at the end of the six races will win the championship.

Yes, I somewhat gave this race away with my avatar. But it was easy to anticipate, anyway, I think. This car is notorious for being difficult to drive over bumps, which this long track has in super-abundance, so it's definitely a hard combo. I advise that you not aim for a perfect lap and instead focus on first finishing a lap cleanly, and then try to improve where you were at first too cautious. It would also be a good idea to finish complete laps, rather than restart, even if you crash early in the lap, so that you can gain an understanding of the limits of the car in the tough back half of this legendary circuit. Then, once you've learned the course in the car, you can push to get a lap you're satisfied with. Finally, note that the recommended T times to share, and the ones I will put on the leaderboard, are T3, T5, and T8. You are free to post other splits if you wish, but writing down 11 numbers seems awfully tedious. So in this final race, have fun. :)

I hate you.
I can't do a clean lap in a stable race car, let alone a flyweight Caterham, this is going to be very very tough

I hate you.
Yes, he is quite dispicable having The Ring involved. But maybe I like dispicable men, or rather the challenge they give. :dopey:

Anyway, I put in a douzen laps sofar and have yet to get a clean one, but it is fun, big time! 👍

Just take it slowly at first, and learn the track. Once you learn where the track irregularities are, and where you can push and where you can't, you will definitely get a clean lap. 👍 And don't be embarrassed if it feels slow and sloppy to you, because it will to all of us.

It's nice to see you back in the GT4 world, Denur, and I'm glad you're enjoying this funny little car - if that's even the right word for it! For some reason, I can't find the exact comment, but I remember Ren-Tec or someone calling the Caterham a "slippy go pod" or something similar, which struck me as pretty accurate.

After about five laps, two or three of which I did several weeks ago when I was testing, I finally have a clean lap that beat my dirty ghost. But both when I was doing the lap and when I was watching the replay, every corner felt like I took it either sloppily or too slowly. But that's to be expected, I guess.

T3: 1'58.536
T5: 3'38.633
T8: 5'51.874

I forgot to add a bit of advice to my comments in the first post: "Watch out for the curbs; they bite!" :scared: I had a "moment" near the end of this lap, when, entering Galgenkopf (the long right-hander before the last long straight), I turned in too early and hit that big curb on the inside, which pitched the Caterham first on only its left-side wheels, and then on only its two front wheels. I don't recommend that as a way to take that corner, but I made it through somehow, and it sure looked funny on the replay.

You sure can. 👍 There never seem to be enough interested people in the Race Series forum these days, so it's great to see people like you coming in here and wanting to participate in these series.

Just Submitted my GPTLMS R2 time to Abud. So I'll give this thing a whirl.

it was hard enough to get these splits...
I will "try" to improve

2'03.538
3'48.725
5'59.261

Decided to go for a clean lap, so not pushing it too hard:

T3: 2'05.307
T5: 3'51.004
T8: 6'11.424

I had the chance to run 4 laps this evening, this is my first time running this car on n3's also. Good choice I must say, car is a blast to drive.

T3: 2'03.228
T5: 3'46.418
T8: 6'02.138

What is happening with the series after this race?

Well, the Caterham Cup will be over, and I think that it would be boring for those of us that have done the whole series to do another one. However, I may do another vote between the two ideas for series that weren't selected last time (see this thread). I imagine the winner of that poll would be the Supercar Cup, but there would have to be significant interest, because I don't want too many races, as happened earlier in this series, that have fewer than five submissions.

I am down with whatever happens next...👍
I know I have been guilty of not submitting times but that's only 'cuz of dirty laps :indiff:
Until gt5 is out I'll be checking this thread often. :)

Well, I improved by about 1.5 seconds, and that's probably my final effort. It's impossible to get even most of the corners right, let alone all of them, so all you can really hope for is eliminating the big mistakes. I did that on this lap; my previous best had made a mess of Bergwerk, and with the long straight(ish) section following that corner, I had lost a lot of time. I lost small amounts of time in many places on this lap, but I did get those big, important corners right, which is really the most you can ask for in this combo.

T5: 3'38.238
T8: 5'50.693

Would be interested in another series like this one. Nice break from the GPTLMS races. I am limiting myself to 2 runs per race on that series. Otherwise I'm working on the dimishing returns theory. Any car/Track is cool for me. Ditto what Smallhorses mentioned in a previous post. Stay with arcade. Same or equal cars. Gives me a chance.

Also, haven't submitted any T's because of dirty runs. Not real familar with track. Only mission I haven't completed yet. Maybe I could help Slowman with it. LOL ie. see his posts.

Had a run last night improved on my first sectors but for some reason the T8 is slower.
I was able to shave -7sec on my final :)

T3 - 2'00.080
T5 - 3'44.---
T8 - 6' 00.---

Another busy work week means I've had little time to spare for this combo, however, and early start this morning and I've now got a lap that I'm happy with. A little overcautious towards the end, but overall pretty nice. 👍
Sadly I'm on a 6:40am flight to Salt Lake City on Monday and will be in Logan, UT. for most of the week so I'm going to submit this time now.
Congrats to all the runners in this series for making it fun & exciting and especially to those of you that have managed to keep this motorised bathtub on the track at a truly epic and demanding circuit like the Nurburgring!

T3 1'59.337
T5 3'38.816
T8 5'52.147

Oh man, FINALLY made my first clean run on this track... So frustrating every time I race on this track, it never makes sense to me how the track designers/engineers didn't even make it smooth... maybe they used all their 'smooth' tarmac for the straight

Time submitted, thank goodness

Actually beat my target time for a clean run by nearly ten seconds

Good work everybody who made the event possible by competing, and especially Austin343 for organising everything 👍

Did not have time to improve so submitting with the T's above

Thanks Austin, great series!!!! 👍

Time submitted with the following sector times.

T3: 2'02.245
T5: 3'44.777
T8: 6'03.486

This has been one challanging combo for me: A track that I've hardly driven before (only for licence tests and missions) with all its indulations, too high curbs and awkward (off-camber) corners and with a car with a harder suspension than some granny's wheelchair.

But OMG, it's been loads of fun. 👍👍

The results for this race, as well as the final standings for the championship, are up in the first post. Congratulations to Smallhorses and AyJay for their podium places in the championship, and thanks to all of you that competed in this series, especially the ones that stuck with all my ridiculous combos and got a lap in every race they could. 👍

Seeing the desire shown in both posts and PMs to have another short race series, I am more than happy to go ahead with the one that nearly tied the Caterham Cup in the vote last time, the Supercar Cup. I'll post a thread for interest, rules, and a warmup race in a short while. I really am happy that there is still enough interest in GT4 to make these series worthwhile 👍, especially since I get to race combos I design and like. :sly: Seriously, though, I hope that you all enjoyed yourselves driving the Caterhams, and that you will if you decide to participate in the supercar series. :)

Edit: I apologize for not coming up with photos of my times for the last four weeks. I can't find any camera at all now :scared:, although I promise to track one down and post the pictures (or ideally videos) within the next week. I guess an unintentional loophole in my own rules, which was not setting a time frame for proof for the winning time, allowed me to not disqualify myself, although I certainly realize it's a terrible example for a series organizer to be setting. :guilty:

Thanks again for an excellent series. 👍
You should really find the electronics-sucking wormhole in your home though, first the USB stick, then the vid-camera, now the camera... :p

I may, time permitting and depending on friend's workloads, try to put together a video of my Nurb' lap for later reference if anyone is interested. I was overcautious in the end, but having almost matched Austin to T5, I didn't want to blow the lap later on. :nervous:

Okay... here we go. I finally found the camera with video capacity (it was in a drawer somewhere :dunce:) and I recorded all of my Caterham laps. They are in order, from the warmup through race six. I apologize for the poor picture quality and camera work and the lack of sound (for some reason, sound from the TV doesn't seem to carry over to the camera even though normal conversation works fine ), but it's the best I can do.

I watched the last two replays (Deep Forest and Nurburgring) and they are a joy to watch. You make it seem so easy. 👍

Now what is that clicking sound in the background, and what happend to uploading replays through the MaxDrive? :O

I don't know what the clicking is; it may be the camera adjusting, as you can tell by the way the color and light balance change occasionally in many of the videos. I don't have a Max Drive because my parents don't approve of the amount of GT I play, and they see a Max Drive as sanctioning spending too much time on GT. That's not to mention the WRS is over now and few to no GT4 competitions at this point require .max replays.

Thanks for your compliments, too. 👍
