someone requested them and i thought i'd share
VERY fun car to drive around in GT4. i thought the elise handled very well, but damn...too bad you can't use it in any races or what not :( it's considered a special car, so you're limited to using it in Photo Run or Free Run at various tracks or in photo mode. i think it's because of the driver in the seat...350z roadster and what not had a convertible top that could be put up if needed to lower polygon count and what not. anyhow, here are a few teaser shots :)

You're my hero! Great shots, thank you! What do you mean "you can't use it in any races"? Just a practice car??

Massimo

Actually, I think it's a good thing you can't use it in any races. It's extremely cheap, and it's extremely fast, so someone could buy it early in the game, and use it to completely dominate the AI in most of the remaining races.

Nice shots too! 👍

If you ever go upside down in that one, it looks like your head will become part of the roll cage. Look how that helmet sticks out above it! :scared:

Really bummed to hear it can't be raced in A-Spec though.

You can't race against the AI in it? That really sucks. 👎

Was hoping to beat much 'bigger' cars with it & although it looks a bit crap with the roof up its better than not having it at all in races.

I like the first picture.. definitely shows off what Photo Mode can do. :)

Good to know the car's nice and quick, too.. Can't wait to zing it 'round the 'Ring. :D

I've been forever praising the Caterham. It's making me tear up with pride:D

It`s a pity you can't race it. I was looking forward to it. Always thought they were special cars. I would of like to blast round a lot the circuits in GT4 demolishing lots more powerful cars. Oh well maybe GT5 then.

Caterham's don't have a roof, much like the Ariel Atom doesn't. I beleive there are some aftermarket companies who will modify you Caterham or Westfield or similar type of car and give it mountings for a fold up roof but nothing for a standard one.

Hmm damn, my Uncles Westfield has a simple removable fabric roof not sure if its standard or not though. Very useful in English weather

Not sure if that applies too ALL Westfields since they have made one or two more user friendly models like the widebody, but my mates dad had one and it had no available roof, I know I've never seen an unmodified Caterham with a roof though.

Totally not true. Some Caterhams come standard with the full weather pack (side shields and roof) and for others it is an option.

It REALLY sucks that we can't take on opposition with it :( I drive in car all of the time anyway :(

Consdiering the R400 is in SegaGT (which as soon as i won it, used to anihilate the rest of the game), and in Race mode has the canvas top on it, i cant see why they didnt do the same for this. I mean, what about the Cobra? Or the F1's. Are those "sepcial" too becuase of their increased poly count?

Seriously, this news just COMPLETELY killed the game for me.

Not true

The weather kit is standard kit on the Roadsport and CSR models and an option on the Classic and Superlight models.

Its not the best roof in the world, but it is Caterham supplied and does the job well enough.

Caterhams own website has a number of pictures of models with the weather kit fitted.

My... doing some early bird forum posting here. Early bird gets the worm, you know!

So you mean to tell me that you can't even race this machine against a pack of 5 other chumps? That's the shocker to me as even I've seen Caterham in racing. What do I remember it racing in? The 24 Hours of Nuburgring. I don't know if this was an old issue (remember the one about having not a lot of convertibles racing at once on a track?) or if it just won't be allowed in a race. If so, that reminds me of all the Extra Trial cars from Ridge Racer Type 4, where you can't even race them on the eight tracks in the game. You just race... to simply expand your garage, having these Extra cars collect glair and dust.

If I had to recommend something for the American release, I would like to maybe see an all-Caterham race series. You know, just to see how many could actually be on a track at once without fail. Can't let this British hot rod collect dust. By not seeing any action.

Thanks for the pics! Really can't wait to play this game....
It is ironic that in the Lotus 7's real life it was also prevented/banned from racing as it was too quick. Similarly the rules for the Nurburg 24hr Race were indeed recently changed - the effect of which was to prevent any more Caterhams entering and embarrassing factory teams with HUGE budgets - allegedly!
If you want to see lot sof pics of the real thing, try our website, www.mycaterham.com
May be particularly interested in the Nurburgring section - compare the game with the real thing - looks pretty damn good to me.
Oh, and if anyone near Egham, Surrey, wants to have a ride in one of these little beauties, just drop me a line!
Oh yes - and we do have a factory supplied roof - but hardly ever use it unless caught in a massive downpour. With aeroscreen fitted we just use a helmet.

now how rediculous is THAT!?!? you cant use a car in a race!?!? i think this whole deal with cars not being allowed because they are type:- - The caterham is CLEARLY Type :FR!!! let that car rip havok! GT4 is supposed to have a special points system where u get less points if your car totally beats the competition when its standing still and just showing its spec to everyone.. why dont they just do that?! i dont care if you win points! REPLAY VALUE!!!! thats what i care about.. i want to be able to come back to the race later on with a caterham or an F1 car or something and totally anhialite the competition so i can relive the history of the car and see exactly WHY it was banned from racing as people have said it was. im trying to stay open minded and im keeping my hopes up but.. WHEN GT4 is delayed so much and gets everyones hopes up SOOO HIGH... its just gonna be a BIG BIG let down.. and im already feeling disapointed!!!!!

Can't wait to get my hands on this!!!! That's as close to my car in a game as I am ever likely to see 👍

I also have an orange Caterham Fireblade, minus the cage and some of the carbon bits, but I had my interior painted black after seeing Richard Meaden's car on the EVO stand at the Autosport show in January 2002 while mine was on order :)

See a bit more about the real thing here

Oh yes, and I don't have a roof - just a biker's leather jacket and a helmet (painted to match the car!)

Nice car! What kind of bike-engine does the Fireblade use?

Both mine and the car on which the one in the game is based use the 918cc RRW spec engine from the 1998 Honda FireBlade supersports bike

In the bike in standard form it's supposed to give 128bhp @ 10,500rpm. In my car it's probably about 140bhp thanks to the dyno kit and the exhaust, which coupled with a weight of around 400kg means about 325bhp/tonne - plus incredible cornering speed because of its light weight 👍

Cool thanks for the info! :)
What other cars (for comparisons sake) have about 325bhp/ton(ne)? 👍

"dyno kit"

The hell?

Jetting kit for the carbs that eliminates the flat spot that you get at mid revs/full throttle (e.g. accelerating hard out of a corner) that you get with the stock bike - set up like that to get through emissions tests I think

The first mod that bikers do
:)
