Ok,

Having bought & tuned up a Caterham, where can i race it?

I can't seem to get into any of the races because of my "special" car.

Its ok, but it wouldn't be too swift for everything!!! My CSL laps the 'ring quicker, although it is slightly tuned :)

Do i need to wait for a yet unseen series or circuit before i can race, or is the Caterham just a bit of time-trail bling?

I have to say that having bought & tuned it, it seems a bit of a waste!

The Caterham, sadly, can't race anywhere.

But 350hp and 300kg around the 'ring is still fun:)

Yeah, I've also just bought one of these, haven't tuned it yet, but now that I'm seeing numbers like 350 hp I think I'm going to. It's kind of a drag that you can't race them, but as it's been discussed in other threads, the number of polygons needed to render one of those is much higher than your standard car ('cause you can clearly see the interior, in 1080i anyway) so they can't have too much other stuff on the screen with them at the same time. The way I see it, it was either leave them out completely, or put them in with limitations so we can at least see what they're like to drive. Personally, I'm pleased with decision.

ok,

on that basis, fair enough.

Perhaps it would have been nice if PD had put some kind of notice at the car purchase point.

I still like the car tho' :-)

can you go and do a "family drive" on the tracks?
(family drive is the thing next to the photodrive when you go to 'real circuits'..etc.)

EXACTLY! It would have been a small affort to put a notice in, and it would have been SO MUCH of a help, just have to figure it out the hard way though

Edit: I just saw your question and, no you can not do the family drive nor a race meeting or something, that's with evry so-called special car

Or limit you to first person only view. If you don't have to show the car, the polygons really don't matter then. You couldn't do replays then, but you could have raced it at least.

HEY.....that would have been a great solution, that way w.....:dopey::indiff:.......well than there isn't really a reason to race with those special cars, FOR ME then, it could be a great solution to others though:)

bought it for the lightweight cup and it doesn't race anywhere. blew 30% of my budget on it, now im getting it back by using my raid car in the rallies.

You should just sell the Raid (Toyota I'm assuming), it's worth alot more than the Fireblade...

i use the raid car now, very good in the rallies.

Fair enough, (although we'll have to agree to disagree on the point about the Raid being a good rally vehicle), but it's probably one of the easiest cars to win/ways to make $260,000 in the game, so even if you sell it to generate some cash, you can win another one in 4 easy laps.

Notice the gear ratios?

1st gear goes up to >100km/h.

I lapped tsukuba using only 2 gears!!!

That's because it has a motorbike gearbox. They need a long 1st gear to keep the front wheel on the ground during acceleration. I also noticed that with a semi racing exhaust it delivers more HP then with a racing exhaust??

I use the Rally Raid just for that purpose... but to race it makes little sense if you're going for A-Spec points in 4WD or rally races. It's so far advanced every race is only good for 1pt that I've seen.

I've heard the Ram is good. Gonna try mine tonight :)

You guys can race it at any non-Event style gametypes (ie. you can't race it in European or Beginner Challenge). Example of where you CAN use it is if you goto World Circuits and then goto the Nurburgring and pick practice for 5 credits, you can drive it then. You may also take photo shoots of these cars too. No Family drives (as mentioned earlier these cars use to much polygons and thus can't be raced vs any competition) though.

So you can drive the special cars in simulation mode just not vs anyone else. Photo or Practice only.

who is it made by? I havnt done a lot of looking around, i think i want to buy one just cuz it sounds fun.

Rather more annoyingly than the fact it is only eligable for races in arcade mode is that the gearing IS in fact incorrect.

PD have got the correct gear ratios and final drive BUT neglected to take into account that motorcycle engine have a primary reduction gear.

The real 'blade will still exceed 70 in second so if you fit the close ratio gearbox in the game and leave everything else as is, you'll actually be halfway to reality 👍

It was one of the first cars I've bought with my 110K. Must say I was disapointed not beeing able to use it anywhere but I'm still having fun with it trashing it around the tracks! :)

Now... the old Midget... that's even worse! won't even let you wash it or change the oil!! :scared:

It does suck you can't race it, but my God it's fun to drive around in. The normal spec ones you buy in real life shift, and thats with a 103bhp 1.4 engine used in lower level trim.

It's a shame that the Caterham Seven Fire Blade can't be raced in GT mode because when I raced Grand Valley Speedway in Arcade Mode, this thing handled like a Formula One race car, even if it didn't have a V10 or a V12. I flew off the track a total of... 0 times. I can probably see why you British folk are pretty upset to not race this car in GT Mode. Just look at it- (according to the car selection stats) 916cc, 138hp @ 10450 rpm, 89.68 lb. ft of torque @ 9250 rpm, 369kg... it's a certifiable F1 car for those who don't have the money.

I can think of probably a few reasons why you can't race this thing on any track in any competition. One reason is probably polygon usage, another would be slowdown against six others, third would probably be that PD just won't let you race this thing against say, a bunch of cars in the same horerpower class as this machine. But, I've never heard of or seen any races involving multiple Sevens going at it. Someone even made a claim that a certain Caterham was "too fast" for Le Mans. Regardless, it's still a good car to take almost anywhere.

And even if you can't race it anywhere, you can still buy it in GT Mode to unlock it for Arcade Mode. And for you Caterham fans, set me straight on anything I may be wrong about.

In Sega GT 2002 (and online) there was a Caterham Superseven R500, which I prefer over this one, really. It had a weather top on it, and you could actuall use it. God Knows, I'm gonna do what I have to to own one of those in reality.

*dream world* British Racing green with Yellow stripe down the bonnet. Gonna drop a V6 in it and get dual exhaust, one on each side, and 2 reverse lights for rear end symmetry, though it probably wont get noticed around the spare wheel. Well over 300 horsies with that weight, handleling that makes other cars hang their heads in shame...

I plan on getting a well paying job, i've got high hopes.

i too was REALLY pissed off when i bought the caterham 7, modded it up, and then couldnt race the thing!!!

go get the suzuki gsx-r/4.... its actually a damn gorgeous sexy horny car!!! and u CAN race it!! (doiing the 'ring 4 hr as i speak)

I drove a Caterham a year or so ago, it was a Superlight, my mates dad owned it and my mate was building a Locost as well but that wasn't finished atthe time and his dad was letting us both drive his Superlight, fantastic car to drive, if the roads are smooth any way. I wouldn't own one unless I was rich enough to own a track day car, because thats all it is, you can't do anything practical in them. I've also been to the Caterham challenge, not raced in it mind (as much as I'd have like to I'd probably be dead by now). And JohnBM01 there was a GT spec Caterham that was indeed banned from LeMans because it was too damn fast round the track for it's class.
