here in britian we have a racing/motorsports club called the 750 motor club, ( www.750mc.co.uk ) its aimed more at the weekend racer who is on a budget, its loads of fun to watch and take part in and very friendly too but its still very competative.

the lotus seven really has kicked off a large market of D.I.Y. kitcars and ready made models of a similar type and look.

here are some links to check out, remember you can build all these cars in your own shed at home get them tested and taxed and drive them on the public road (in britain anyway).

I bought it and attempted to make some great times on "nurb" with it... well I tuned it fully with NOS and all, but crist I just couldn't find a way to control it :grumpy: .
I just found this car too out of control to drive on the bumpy, winding Nurnburgring :scared: .

It's got a very nice sound, it really sounds like a motorcycle :dopey: and it really moves... im just not going to add weight or something to make it more drivable, so it's been sold... To bad I guess! :guilty:

Hold on a minute...

sexy + horny + car = ???

What's wrong, Phil? No luck with the ladies? ;) I wouldn't call it sexy (much less horny), but it does look like a pretty cool concept car that kind of seems like its own Le Mans Prototype. If any of you have played "Gran Turismo Concept" (no American version), you may have remembered the GSX-R/4. Everytime I try to say the name of this car, I keep thinking, "is this a car, or a motorcycle?" Of course like Honda, Suzuki is experienced at motorcycles as well, so I usually try to remember that if anything is in a GT game, it is likely a car and not a motorcycle. It has motorcycle horsepower and probably handles like a charm. I don't know any of this because I don't have one yet in GT4. There is the Suzuki Concepts race series at the Suzuki menu, so it's kind of a little GT Concept. Other than that, I have yet to acquire a Suzuki GSX-R/4 in the game.

So maybe polygon usage kept this machine from being used as a normal machine. I cannot say that I've seen an all-Caterham race on TV or in pictures. I really have no idea why you can't race one competitvely in the game against five others. Maybe that may change for GT5. I don't plan on racing in a one-make racing series with six (or more) other Auto Union V16 Type C Streamlines, but six (or more) other Caterhams to a track would be insane. If PD wants to put in many more cars, I say study the game "TOCA Race Driver 2" and find out how to put more to a track. If "special cars" would be given free entry to compete in a pack, there would have to be a lot done to make it happen. But it is a shame to have this F1 car for the road just be a "special car," unable to be raced competitively in a race series unless in Arcade Mode.

Are you calling the caterham a F1 car? It's nothing like a F1 car. Just because it's fast and handles good doesn't mean you call it a F1 car. Just call it an awesome performance vehicle.

It's really too bad that PD didn't make the Fireblade available with the top, no matter how ugly it is it surely would use fewer polys than the driver. The Cobra's top is ugly as sin, and it's still in the game.

I also wonder if the visible articulated front suspension uses too many polygons also. I heard that the Prowler cannot be raced and it has a similarly visible front suspension... Then again so does the F1, but you can race it...

Oh well, like someone said the GSXR-4 is almost as nice to drive and can be raced. I have 5 of those now. The fully modded one has 1500 miles and one of my stock ones has about 200.

My Caterham has about 40 miles (a couple of jaunts around the 'Ring and Laguna Seca) and despite how much fun it is, that's probably all it will ever have. It get's boring with no competition...

I thought you couldnt race them in any series because it was an unfair advantage, but stopping me from using the most awesome lightweight of all simply because it cant handle the polys is straight bull****. Pardon my language but it angers me.

the caterham is indeed a beautiful machine.. i dont really mind not racing it, i just like to toss it around with all the horsies and barely any weight.

btw, the gxx-r/4 is won on the 1st one make race in the suzuki dealership. this is also powered by a motorcylcle engine, the suzuki hayabusa to be exact which is a very powerful and quick bike.

I believe the Radical SR/3 also uses a hayabusa. PS, my friends cousing owns a hayabusa, one of the ones before the power limiter, and that is by far the scariest vehicle I've ever been in. I thought my 250 Ninja was quick, my Uncles Ducati 600 scared the hell out of me at 6000rpm but the hayabusa really is something else. Seriously, at 1/4 throttle in second the front wheel would still be lifting up unintentionally. Just for people who dont know, the Hayabusa is the most powerful street bike in the world, it accelerates faster than all but the most exotic sports cars.

who is it made by? I havnt done a lot of looking around, i think i want to buy one just cuz it sounds fun.

its made by british marque caterham, really great car, for info, that car is not on the production line, it is actually a personal project done by some guy in a magazine, i followed the project through and the car is the lightest caterham ever, the car has also broken the maclaren F1's 0-100-0mph record, achieving it in something like 11seconds, ( it also cost the guy about 50.000punds to make and modify it, it has a damn MAGNESIUM steering wheel, and CARBON seats)

crazy stuff!

yup, the radical sr/3 is actually even madder then any caterham, in fact its madder then most cars on the road, i went to silverstone once and saw the car tearing around the track (and i MEAN tearing) its nuts, it just shreds every other car there, supercar drivers seriosly didn't know what hit them, it earased everything, ( driver was amazing aswell)

sorry for the double post.

It was built by Richard Meaden at EVO magazine, search for EVO in the threads and you will find one where he attempts a record at the Nurburgring. It´s a good article! And yes, it´s not on the production line, but no, it didn´t cost 50k pounds. I haven´t got the article in EVO about the car here now as I´m not at home, but I can post some facts about the car later in the week.

BTW, the steering wheel have since been changed, it was supposedly too heavy and got swapped for a carbon fibre one!:)

DON'T YOU EVER CALL THE CATERHAM UGLY, WITH OR WITHOUT THE TOP! :grumpy:

The car that broke the 0-100-0 record with Autocar was NOT the Evo Magazine's Caterham Fireblade, but a Caterham R500 evolution.

The link below is a scan of the 0-100-0 results from last years Autocar

0-100-0 Results Part 1

The record has since been beaten by an Ultima GTR

Again here is a link for anyone interested.

And apparently the steering wheel only uses three screws rather than the normal five to secure it, in a bid to save more weight.

Some people would argue that this is just taking things too far, but then again I know someone who speced his Elise without sunvisors to save weight!
