That thing is a beast, not a lot of torque though. Wait a minute, the car weighs next to nothing so thats loads of torque for that car...............

340 bhp - and the engine only weighs 74kg!!! :scared:

Tested to 15,000 rpm! :scared:

Measurements:
Height - 450 mm
Width - 552 mm
Length - 550 mm
Weight - 74 kg, 163lbs
Maximum power output - 340 bhp
Mappings and power staging 160 - 320 for road use
Power to weight in a standard SV - circa. 610 to 620 bhp per ton.

Power to weight in a R-SV variant - Circa. 650 bhp per ton.

To put that into perspective a Ferrari Enzo has 525 bhp per ton, a 2005 Porsche Carrera GT has 438 and a BMW M5 has 288 bhp per ton.

Where do I sign?

That thing must be so quick. But it's kind of strange for it to be only 2 liters but 8 cylinders is it not?
It's 2 4 cyclinder motorbike engines stuck together. That's why there's not a lot of torque either.

Beat me to it...considerably.

I'm pretty sure (I'll have to check my source 'Evo') that it was developed with yamaha.

Quote from site in first post

The idea of putting two Yamaha YZF1000 motorbike engines together to make a V8 engine was conceived 12 years ago during a coffee break.

I also heard rumor about this same engine in a Elise. Ok now I gotta go for about an hour since I finally got my package that I have been waiting for ever to get. Not christmas present FYI.

That thing has one hell of a flat torque curve. And about the closest thing u'll get to an F1/indy motor short of actuallying building a 3.0 v10. I want that car with that motor! It's the sex.

On a side note, Ferrari back in 1980 had a 2.0 v8 quad cam, only put out 155hp in the 208 gts or gtb or something like that, i know it was a 208

What an absolute beast. There are so many Caterhams at trackdays that its hard to tell the difference on each model.
I guess there is a small scoop on the V8 model to allow air feed for the ITBs.

It's MORE than enough torque. A small-block would for example weigh (sp?) to much and have to much low-rev torque. You wouldn't be able to control it.
You could also consider that this car ain't build for some swedish 60+ drivers.

*Imagines a 70 year old spin around with the Caterham*

Hahaha ! I would like to see that !
