I was going to post this in the funny pics thread, but then I decided it doesn't really belong in the comedy corner. It's scary.

...and I think it deserves its own thread.

So, check it out. It's a caterpillar invasion of mass proportions. I don't know if anyone's seen it before, but if you haven't then check it out. It's not worth missing.

edit: Changed to original link. Click on "Enorma" for large pics. This apparently happened in sweden.

Did Bird Flu kill all the birds, or something?

Those people need to invest in a flame thrower.

My word  Those bikes are hilarious though.... and slightly surreal too.

Yeah. I wonder if the thread is flammable. I'd love to see someone take a weed whacker into the pile in the corner, though. They could torch it afterwards. :trouble:

Yikes... I HATE caterpillars, so I'm very impressed by the photographer - I would never walk around in that, think of all the caterpillars that might steal a ride while you're walking around in the grass :irked:

(Let alone, those that drop down from trees by accident while you're shooting...)

Can't access webpage. I'll try again.

Edit: Got it.

Oh my effing God....that photographer must really like bugs, cuz I'm not going anywhere near that!

Oh dear.... I've seen a fair share of caterpillers before, but that is simply unthinkable! I should think that you'd need more than a few cans of Raid to get rid of that infestation.
Does anyone know where that is, or why it grew so quickly (I'm saying that it grew quickly because I assume someone would've attempted to prevent it had it grown slowly)?

Oh my! Speechless.

Those bikes...... Those Caterpillars must have been fast to trap those parked bikes.

Wow, that's a very large infestation of catterpillars. I would be pretty creeped out by that if it happened where I live at.

Doesn't anyone notice the amount of caterpillars? I mean, if I even saw 10 of them, I'd be suspicious and start looking for insecticides. The web that's on those bikes, must have taken atleast a day to make. So, I don't think anyone frequents that area of town very often, otherwise there's little chance that those caterpillars would have got that far. Someone would have noticed.

I have seen a few on trees but that is. :yuck: :yuck: I bet they are inside that house too for sure. :nervous: :nervous:
Great camera shots.

I think it only took a few hours for those bikes to be mummified in webbing. The sheer amount of caterpillars in the entire area could knock it out easily.

That is actually quite scary. And i found it a little sickening too for some reason. I don't mind Caterpillars a bit but only in very small numbers (less than five anyway).

Wow, I have never seen that sort of thing in an urban area. I have seen them cover entire trees in the woods where they aren't bothered by their biggest predator (humans).

Honestly though, if you let a case of these things get this big you are asking for trouble. I mean, I had a nest on one branch of a bush in my yard and I went to town with some Raid. I think a couple got away because I crushed one on my deck a few days later.

In order for this to happen something had to either attract the moths or they were brought in. Whatever the case I bet that there wasn't a single green leaf in sight before they went into cocoons.

You know, they do sell some insecticides that you can just sprinkle on the grass as a granule or others that attach to your water hose.

The more I think about this the more I think someone let this happen, especially since one of the bicycle pictures showed other bicycles just a few feet away with nothing on them.

Thats disturbing. Who would let it get to that point and STILL do nothing about it? And who would let their bike sit there long enough for that to happen to it? I just want to go there with a can of gas and lite it all up, or atleast yell at the people there for letting the problem get to that point.

I was just thinking about how mad my dad gets when his neighbors let the weeds get out of control and they spread to his pristine yard. I wonder what the nighbors of this house are thinking.

Thats why, wenever I see a caterpillar thats not a monarch, I kill it. No questions asked.
