I have an Acer Aspire E1572 running Windows 7.

And the CD Drive on the side,

Won't open and won't show up in windows explorer.

There is a blank disc in it because I wan't to burn some songs to it and normally there should be an icon here under the listing: Devices with removable storage. but it won't appear.

I also can't open the disk with the regular button.

There used to also be a little green light next to the button,

But it doesn't come on anymore.

It used to work perfectly fine but at some point during the last month, it stopped working and I can't figure out why.

Any help would be appreciated!

See if the disc drive itself is loose. On my old Toshiba laptop the drive itself become disconnected from its SATA slot so there was no power going to it at all.

Your most likely issue is the upper and lower filters in the windows registry.

To the following.
Click Start
Type in Regedit
Hit Enter
Once in Regedit Press F3
Type in Lowefilters to search and hit enter
You will see a window like in picture 1
Make sure you see the DVD/CD-ROM Drives on the right plane.
Lowerfilters should be highlighted
But before we do any changes here click on folder selected on the left plane(its night might be {4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318})
Right click it and select "Export" and call it DVD filters or something.
Once backed up we can now start to edit the registry
Select lower filters and right click and select delete
If Upper filters is there do the same.
Now close the window

Now Go to the device manager by clicking on start and typing in device
Open the DVD/CD-ROM devices section to expand it and right click on the DVD drive and click Uninstall.

Once done reboot the machine, it will reinstall the drive on reboot and it should reset the filters for them as well.

This sort of issue with the DVD drive happens after you install something that uses the DVD drive, like Itunes or norton with its backup function.

Another thing do to is to go into the UEFI and see if it is being detected in their.
Since the UEFI is a hardware level environment where drives are somewhat non existent it will show if the drive is working or not.

If you need to remove a disc from inside use a paperclip and put it in to the little hole next to the LED activity light
